Advent: Joy In Humility
Matthew 5:1-12
A common cultural sentiment is to keep going in hard times or to look for the positive. Sometimes, this ignores an objectively difficult reality in our lives. How do we find joy in humble circumstances?

Heaven: Unending Honeymoon
มุมมอง 20หลายเดือนก่อน
Revelation 21-22 The word “honeymoon” can call to mind a number of things. Most of the time we think of a vacation between a newly wedded couple. But the sparks fade in any marriage. Heaven will be a honeymoon that never fades. We can rejoice and take hope in that.
Heaven: Hell

Revelation 20:7-15 Heaven is a great encouragement, but we need to know about Hell as well. Our culture is quick to avoid talk of hell, either because we think it too harsh or out of favor. We most often hear about hell in cursing language. It’s important that we recognize hell is as real as heaven.

Romans 8:18-30 In this life, we have wonderful experiences. And then, we have experiences we thought were going to be wonderful but aren’t as much. Paul tells us that even creation awaits fulfillment. Heaven will be the fulfillment of every desire we ever had, and they will be fulfilled in ways well beyond our wildest dreams.
Heaven: Appetizers

1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11 In the past, heaven has been maligned as “pie in the sky when you die.” Heaven will certainly be unimaginably great. But you can experience glimpses of heaven right now. This is why Jesus taught us to live a certain way and why Paul encourages the Thessalonians to do so as well.

1 Corinthians 15:35-58 We often think of heavenly bodies as ghostly bodies. This is not what scripture describes, however. So how should we think about heavenly bodies? Paul gives us some clues in 1 Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 15:1-34 All of us have dreams that have fallen short. One dream we can all count on to fall short in this life is the dream of a perfect body. We all eventually wear down. The great promise of heaven, though, is of a redeemed body, just as Christ’s body was redeemed.
Heaven: A Promise

John 14:1-4 Have you ever had a dream and then watched it come true and be even better than you’d imagined? Scripture offers us the dream of eternity, and it will be better than we imagine. Jesus promises there’s such a place for us.

Matthew 4:1-11 At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus went into the wilderness. There, He prayed and He resisted temptation. We do well to find concentrated time with the Lord, even if infrequently.
Rhythms: Discerning Sabbath
มุมมอง 142 หลายเดือนก่อน
Matthew 12:1-14 Contemporary Christians rarely practice Sabbath. We might take days off here and there, or on the flip side we might keep at the grind over the weekend, but we don’t think much about Sabbath. In the Gospels, Christ shows us how to think about the Sabbath.

Matthew 14:13-24 Jesus had a powerful and busy ministry. That’s why it is so notable that the Gospel authors remind us He spent daily time with the Father. If the Savior, who had the world clamoring for His attention, can consistently get away with the Father, so can we.

Mark 15: 33-47 As Mark’s Gospel nears its close, we see the death of Jesus. Mark timestamps the crucifixion so that we know Jesus hung on the cross for about six hours-six hours of grueling pain. When you find yourself waiting, you can remember that Jesus waited in suffering to pay the price for your sins. You may be waiting on something, but you don’t have to wait on a Savior to show up.
