Rain Couldn’t Dampen the Carnival Spirit
The weather failed to take the shine off the day for the plucky Air Cadets who turned out to support Nuneaton’s 86th Carnival Gala.
While the theme of this year’s Carnival & Gala was 'sporting greats' there were definitely more umbrellas than famous sporting faces as people braved the bad weather to show their support for the annual event.
But the weather didn't dampen the spirits of the plucky Air Cadets who turn out to man the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron’s recruiting stall.
In fact the Air Cadet contingent originally avoided the worst of the rain by managing to erect their stall and taking cover before the heavens opened. However in the best spirit of the corps they just couldn’t stand by and watch some of the other charity stall holders as they struggled to put their tents up during the deluge that preceded the opening of the Gala event.
Thankfully the rain eased of and the weather improved by the time the Carnival procession set off and the sun even made an appearance during the afternoon for the Gala.

Royal Air Force Cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Air Training Corps took to the skies for the very first time when they visited RAF Cosford. For all four cadets, this was their first Air Experience Flight (AEF) in the single engine Grob Tutor. Each cadet got a flight which lasted about 25 mins, during which they all took control of the aircraft themselves. During an Air Experience Flight the...

    Cadets of 13 years of age will get ample opportunity to go flying and at the age of 16 cadets have the opportunity to undergo glider pilot training up to solo standard. Some cadets even progress to become instructors. For many the flying experience gained as an Air Cadet is just the start of their military or civilian flying career.

  • @hincks11
    @hincks11 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Air Cadets is as you will see from the video a uniformed organisation based on the RAF. As such cadets do undergo elements of military training designed to encourage leadership, discipline, teamwork and above all good citizenship. Flying and Gliding are core activities of Air Cadets but it must be understood that the majority of the time will be devoted to ground training and other adventurous activities.

    Great Vid. From a parents point of view if your thinking of joining GO FOR IT. My son joined about 2 years ago and loves it. Its given him experiences he would never have had otherwise. He's taken part in competitions, got a BTEC qualification when he's only 15 and done his DofE. The ATC is a brilliant organisation.

    Your uniform looks old. Well that maybe because we use the RAF's uniform, that they currently wear. And they are the oldest airforce afterall. BTW: What is the name of the tune on the Glockenspiel right at the start?

    in the UK it used to be upper age limit 22 (if you made it to CWO) and upper age limit 20 for any other rank. Now you must be a sgt before you turn 18 to stay to 20, at 20 you can become a member of staff.

  • @hincks11
    @hincks11 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cadet Sgt's and above in the ATC may also be asked to join the adult staff as instructors when they reach the age of 20.

  • @gangstamillion
    @gangstamillion 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    i believe if a cadet gets to sgt or above in acf they can stay as instructors in future if they wish

  • @hincks11
    @hincks11 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    The upper age for Air Cadets who have not reached the rank of Sgt. is being changed from 18 back to 20. This extension from 18 to 20 will be reviewed on an individual basis by the wing commander. Squadron commanders will be required to demonstrate that a continuation of service beyond the age of 18 is beneficial to both the cadet and the Squadron. The upper age for cadets who have reached the rank of Sgt remains unchanged at 20.
