    Thank you for posting this video! Super helpful. We're visiting Iron Mountain in July and debating between site 16 and site 18. 18 seems a bit more private and set back from the road, but your video shows 16 and it's a beautiful view! How does the view at 18 compare? Can you see the lake through the trees from 18?

    • @classcchaos3476
      @classcchaos3476 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      16 is very short. I prefer 18 and it depends on the time of year you visit. This section of the campground is on a ridge and has lots of trees so if the leaves haven’t fallen off you don’t really have a clear view of the lake but it’s not bad.

    Hi! 🤗 I came across your *great* channel when I was looking for videos of Farmerville. I've never been there, but my 3rd great grandfather who was born in S.Carolina, settled there in 1841. After he left S.Carolina, he made a pit-stop in Alabama long enough to marry a wife & have 6 kids. But he took off (alone) and wound up in Union Parish in 1841. (Some of his kids followed him there when they grew up) .. He married my 3rd great grandmother maybe 2 weeks after arriving in Farmerville. 🙈 They had 6 kids (including my 2nd great grandmother).. I still haven't figured out how my 3rd GG died. He married his 3rd wife about 4 months after my 3rd GG died & they had 5 more children. Unfortunately, she died too.. 🤔 Six months later he married for a final time.. It's been a blast researching my family tree and finding cousin matches thru' DNA related to him. He had farm land in Farmerville, also some near Spearsville (sp?) and some in place called Shiloh. He also had land on a creek that ran off of that place this was filmed at that he used for fishing.. It's a blast watching your video of an area that probably wasn't all that far from where they were... Thanks!! xoxo ~Sherry (way up north)

  • @20807shane
    @20807shane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I stay here quite often, it is a nice park. the flood of 2016 reached just beneath the floor of bath house. the tent sites are nice but are a bit low so they stay wet longer than the rv side. there are several trails, nativity center, laundry, and canoe rental, the river is the tickfaw river. park is usually packed on the weekends so plan ahead. gators are known to cross over from swamp to the pond, and due to floods I haven't seen fish being caught out of the pond, though the one trail will take ya to a creek where you can fish but a bit of a walk.

      Elliott Family Shenanigans Yes we’ve also been there. It’s nice and near Hot Springs. This is a great time to visit that one. It has a waterfall and several hiking trails. Depending on what you want out of your vacation I would recommend Lake Catherine or Lake Degray over this one. Daisy State Park was great for two nights but not a lot to do there unless you have a boat or rent one. We stopped there on our way home from Hot Springs where we’d spent 8 nights at Degray Lake State Park and Charlton (4 nights @ each) and enjoyed our time there but not much to do there.

    In small towns, cops got nothing better to do except knock on my windows and rudely accuse me of doing drugs or possessing guns or being a wanted. But in big cities they have stuff to keep them busy, constant radio calls and speeders to go chase, so they leave me alone and let me camp in big parking lots. Thinking the only place I can drive the van to go boondocking and be left alone is out in the rural mountains or deserts out mid-west hidden from view from the roads. One year anniversary it seems and I just happened to find this video. How did this boondocking attempt turn out?

    • @classcchaos3476
      @classcchaos3476 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David it was awesome! It’s a small town with not much else around so pack plenty of groceries and supplies. I also enjoyed all the wildlife refuges in the area (you can’t stay overnight at those but they are free and interesting to visit. I have found most places along the Gulf Coast in Louisiana and Mississippi are friendly and so peaceful and quiet (except in the Gulfport area near the casino) and it’s not the casinos fault so many trains run through the area and helicopters fly overhead because they have a military base nearby or at least that was my experience. I’m friends with some one who goes to Texas to boondocking there and she loves their beaches. I am not an urban RVer so the more peaceful quiet areas appeal to me. Also you might also enjoy Arkansas lots of boondocking places there are lakeside. And there’s a few places in north Louisiana that are nice and quiet you can stay up to 14 days for free there. Some places in north Louisiana do charge $3/night but lots of free ones too.

    • @classcchaos3476
      @classcchaos3476 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David you will probably be the only person there and won’t see many people the whole time you’re there unless it’s fishing rodeo time.

    • @David-gk4kw
      @David-gk4kw 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@classcchaos3476 Yea I thought I would not be able to stay there for free. I can't find many spots on this planet where I can just be left alone with the dirt, I don't want plumbing or electrical or anyone providing anything, I don't want to create a slum yard with a bunch of waste store bought beer cans. I just want free dirt without alot of paperwork. Animals don't pay other animals to have space so why should I pay someone anything. All the space has been claimed. Some asshole 200 years ago decided they would register 200,000 acres with the state and their descendants are all set. I worked hard in my late teens and 20’s, just got used and stepped on and left for broke. I don't want to reserve a spot in a dedicated camping area and have to camp 10 meters away from some loud anti-social family who makes alot of noise but doesn't want me in their camp site.

      David yes this place is completely free. I am sorry if I wasn’t clear. It’s a great place to boondock and just relax. There is no charge to stay here. There are several different spots to boondock in Holly Beach and Cameron and other places on the Gulf Coast. Just no grocery stores in the area. That’s why I say you better stock up before you get down there and get what you need.
