Day 4: Base Camp to Kedarkantha Summit - A Sunrise to Remember
The most thrilling and awaited part of the Kedarkantha trek begins on Day 3, as you start your climb to the Kedarkantha summit (12,500 ft). The trek starts early at 3:30 AM, under the shimmering light of the stars and the glow of your headlamp. The cold morning air adds to the challenge, but the excitement of reaching the summit keeps you moving.
The trail is steep and demanding, passing through snow-covered meadows and ridgelines. The quiet of the early morning, broken only by the crunch of snow beneath your boots, creates a surreal atmosphere. As the first light of dawn begins to illuminate the sky, the summit feels closer with every step.
Reaching the summit around 7:00 AM, you’re greeted with a sight so stunning it makes every ounce of effort worth it. The panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks-Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak (Kalanag), and Har Ki Dun valley-are bathed in golden hues of the sunrise. The sense of accomplishment at standing atop the summit is unmatched, and the next 2-3 hours are spent soaking in the breathtaking scenery, clicking pictures, and reveling in the moment.
Descent to Juda Ka Talab: After enjoying the summit, you start your descent back to Juda Ka Talab, retracing the trail through snowy slopes and open meadows. The downhill trek is relatively easier, offering a chance to reflect on the summit experience and appreciate the surrounding beauty. You reach Juda Ka Talab by evening, where you spend the night, resting and celebrating the incredible day.
Day 5: Juda Ka Talab to Sankri and Departure to Dehradun
On the final day, you trek back to Sankri, retracing the trail through the forest. The gradual descent allows you to enjoy the vibrant landscapes one last time before concluding the trek. Upon reaching Sankri, you collect your bags and head back to Dehradun, carrying unforgettable memories of the Kedarkantha trek and the incredible sunrise from the summit.
