Thank You Scientist - My Famed Disappearing Act Solo Cover
When I was 20 years old, I spent a solid month locked away in my room trying to get the solo to My Famed Disappearing Act from Thank You Scientist down. I recently decided to see if I could still play it so here’s my best attempt at this monster solo.

    You’re so involved with technical and theory that you fail to enjoy the feel Kirk plays with

    Ha! I remember Kirk talking about James hating the end of the shortest straw solo. Kirk called it musical tension and James called it playing out of tune! lol I'm gonna tell you that that best hidden gold per metallica solos is James Hetfields riffs under the leads. Isolate them and .....yep....thats what you want right there. In closing ive met Kirk. He's gold. One of the coolest "rock stars" in this world. And I like his musical tension ! I hope this finds you all doing well Willard

    He had only a short persion where he was considered "good", thats in the first 2-3 albums.. He then stuck with his playing and never improved, and his most solos are too generic and boring without any "feel" or "sense"...

    Here's the funny thing, people crap on Kirk for not being a great guitar player, people crap on wires for not being a good drummer, people crap on James for not being a top-tier singer, but at the end of the day it shows that you don't have to be the best musicians to make the best music. And the numbers don't lie.

    In terms of the G minor pentatonic solo in "The Shortest Straw", would it be possible to assume it'd be in E locrian? Since the G minor pentatonic scale shares a similar set of notes as with the E locrian scale, and the riff being played has the notes E, F, G and A#/Bb which are also in the E locrian scale. (if we don't refer to the 5ths in the power chords) Correct me if I'm wrong, it's just me being curious. :p

    Kirk was a lot of players 1st attraction. But. He's like elementary school. We all go, learn our 1,2,3s and ABCs but. At some point we grow up and move on to more adult things, ie Marty, Jason, Satch, Syn or A7x, Zappa, Randy, Jake E many more players.

  • @livio1396
    @livio1396 ปีที่แล้ว

    the problem with kirk is that it seems that he has never gone back to finish his homework, like the many times he's played b minor licks over e minor rythms... like why wouldnt u just go back and play the scale correctly f# is just beside G lol... but hey give beyong magnetic a try, there's surprisingly cool solos there (even james did one)

    I think he was great in his hey day but he's definitely changed his approach to his lead playing and relies to much on his Wah with playing it safe scale runs and repeating string bends when soloing. It seems like he composed a lot of his solos back in the day and had more of a idea going in knowing what he would do, these days he sounds lost

    He does good, but indeed with low resources. The problem he has is that given his very limited techniques his creativity is capped to the same pentatonic excersize phrases when he speeds up. The more resources you have, the more creative and more options you got. Once you start playing his solos you realize they are pretty similar

    First of all nice content. I particularly like the fact that you played Guitar yourself On this Video. For me there is far too many Keyboard Warriors online trashing Guitarists and Kirk really does seem to get caned big time. The one word which for me is vastly overused is SLOPPY. I think people just use that word trying to make it sound like they know what they are talking about. I even seen on a forum someone saying Malmsteen plays Sloppy really???. The one thing all these people seem to have in common is no link with them playing guitar. I wonder why ???????. If Kirk was really that bad he would have booted out of Metallica a long time ago. They could easily cherry pick a great guitarist to play for them. Myself I think Kirk is decent and what's more he was/is perfect for Metallica, a virtuoso Guitar Player may not always be the best fit for a band.
