I still haven't read it. I moved and it is now packed in a TBR box. I do really want to pick it up though.
Sorry I missed this spirit, now subscribed and will solo sprint to this recording 😊
Hopefully you found it helpful!
Seen it online. Is it worth the purchase ?
Can you show using Hoopla on this?
I also want it😢
Dark/ night mode ? PLEASE LET ME KNOW🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Is there the night / dark mode? Please let me know❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻it is very important to me,thanks❤
It might be worthwhile to redo this as an update with a good mic. The sound quality is so poor it garbles what you are saying.
Wishing you luck ❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
Oh I love the dragon 😍, I have a board of pins on my wall which I think I need to start adding to. Love all of these things
Same! I don't know what it is about enamel pins and books - but they go so well together. Also, isn't the dragon so cute? I knew it had to be the thumbnail.
The mug is adorable, makes me wish I drank hot beverages. I'm also looking at bookish knickknacks to decorate with now that the library is almost done :)
Yes, your new library absolutely needs some bookish knickknacks! As for the mug, I wish I drank tea, it would be perfect for that. As of now, it is just looking pretty.
I'm sorry, what term did you say you dislike that might work in YA? I couldn't tell what you said (my hearing sucks and I did try to rewatch it to catch it but I still can't tell) All in all, good things were said. I agree with a lot of this as a bigender (girl and nonbinary person who uses she/they). I'd add that you should think about how out your character is, their coming out, and how that's affected them. It doesn't have to be a big part of the story but it does affect them and give you more insite when writing them.
The term I said was Ebony. It is a common abbreviation for Non-Binary. Also, yes that is a good point about how out they are.
@@mj_james_writes Thanks
Why should I write characters that are something that doesn't exist? There are only two gender identities: Cisgender and transgender. And you are female.
I'm very curious to know who is the best written enby character that you have read?
Just a reminder that non-binary or nonbinary is a more universal term. I dislike the use of enby, and it should only be used for those who like the term. My favorite book is a Sci-Fi called An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon. The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester is great YA rep. For those that enjoy romance Chef’s Kiss. Love and Other Disasters is also good rep, but I didn’t prefer the writing style.
Love this book
Keep up the good work

Hi! I just came across this video on my recommendations and haven’t seen your other videos. I mainly watch videos about animations, video games, random things like Reddit stories and sometimes queer stuff, so it makes sense I found your video. Anyway I agree with you on most of the points you talked about and I think these are important things to know when writing a non binary character. I also wanted to give you some advice and feedback from the viewers’ perspective. First I think you should add background music in your videos to give them a more specific vibe. Depending on the topic you can use calm music or a little more serious, but it helps retain the attention of the viewer even when what you say is interesting and that’s probably also why they do it in series and movies appart from setting the context and intensifying emotions. Next. I feel like you have written a script and are pretty strictly following it. It is good to have a script to give direction to your ideas and avoid having them all over the place. The downside here is that it feels like you’re directly reading it so the facecam doesn’t add as much as it could if you’re sticking to the text so much. Something I learned from school presentations is that everyone has different ways of learning a script to sort of perform it in front of the class. By that I mean that another method of learning or reciting your script might give a more natural result that feels more like a conversation. By the way I haven’t watched your other videos so I have no idea what you sound like for example during a conversation or in another context. If this is just your normal way of speaking then I apologize if you felt offended by this bit of advice, it is not my intention. My goal is only to help you improve with what I can find so your content can be more appealing to more people, and be more appealing to the people that are already here. Finally, if you can, add visuals even though it’s only a simple drawing like when you were talking about physical appearance. I see this is a relatively small channel (comparing to what I’m used to watch) and you might not have access to video clips and stuff, or maybe it’s too time consuming during editing to add detailed stuff. I’m sort of new to editing and every time I open my editing software to work on a project I remember how time consuming and precise some things are. I hope this little list of tips can help! I believe this is constructive criticism and I am sorry if it doesn’t come across as such. I have less experience than you so this might not be as pertinent as I thought it would be and maybe you already are doing what I suggested here in other videos. Nonetheless I thought it would be nice to leave some feedback from the viewer side. Anyway I wish you the best and I hope you have an amazing rest of your week :D
🤨
you are very underrated!!
Thank you!

I don’t know if this is something you can speak on, but often when I write a character with any quirks I’m told that I’ve written an autistic coded character & that I’m insulting neurodiverse people. (This always comes from neurotypical people) Do you have any thoughts?
Apparently being socially awkward OR having certain interests OR having anxiety OR being ace makes a character autistic coded
This may be kind of harsh, but I would say I don't listen to neurotypical people's feedback on potentially autistic-coded characters. However, being socially awkward, having intense interests, anxiety, and even being ace are all potentially related to being autistic. They all describe me perfectly. So, I could see why you received that feedback. I would suggest you determine WHY your character is this way and put it somewhere in the text. Some of this may go back to asking yourself why you write your characters this way. I know several authors who wrote autistic-like characters before they were diagnosed (professionally or peer-diagnosed). So they wrote characters like them. IMO, that is valid autism rep. If it is only one or two of these things in a character it could just be who they are. However, if one character has a whole lot of autistic traits...As a reader I would mark them as autistic-coded also.
I love books stores! Always my favorite place as a kid. Happy to hear they are still opening up new ones 📚
Godkiller is sat on my shelf, I keep forgetting it, I like the cover for fragile remedy. Some really interesting books ahead by the looks of it. I am just coming out of a very indie focused month, September is highly romance themed for me as well as some new releases, notable Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White and Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas.
I didn’t realize Andrew Joseph White released a new book! I need to pick that up. I did know Celestial Monsters was due out. I really need to read that as well.
@@mj_james_writes They are both due on September 3rd, which would be an awkward decision to make if Waterstones hadn't shipped Compound Fracture a week early so i should have my hands on it tomorrow 🤞
Now I’m jealous! Thankfully we are going to Barnes & Noble this weekend so hopefully I can pick them both up.
I am having a great time reading indies at the moment, and to be honest they have been amongst the most creative books i have read, right now my tbr growth is very indie-centric. (adds more books to tbr)
Same here! I have so many indie books I am looking forward to picking up.
yep you definitely dont need to prove to us that youre autistic
I really liked your video, never had thought about that. Even tho I'm an adhd person I write every day but I don't have writing goals, a word is enough. It turns out once I start I wanna write more.
That is true for me also. Often, it is just transitioning to my project that holds me back. Once I am working I want to keep going.
I loved your video. It is very helpful advice as someone with ADHD I often beat myself up for just not getting around to writing that day and being too tired or not into it. I do have some thoughts on the reading thing tho. What is the most important for me is not necessarily to read a book but to engage with stories and how they are constructed. So while I don't read, I watch tons of series and movies and listen to songs. All the elements to make for a great and engaging story you can find in there can translate over to a book. For me there is some extra good/bad in reading depending how you look at it in that you might start to (unintentionally) copy the writing style of someone. If that helps you find your own style that's great, for me that just doesn't work.
I have been thinking about this. I completely agree that there are elements of other media, such as movies, games, and songs, that are beneficial. However, I strongly feel that readers should engage in reading books and short stories, specifically in the genre that they are writing. Each genre has unique elements, and you can only learn by engaging specificlly with those elements. How authors engage will differ. I know a lot of authors who cannot read the genre they are currently writing. However, if you are (just as an example) a romance writer who does not read any romance, then I do think it is a limitation. Now, by reading, I do not mean by print only.
I can't explain how happy I am to see this ! I always feel like I do things wrong.
I know that feeling. It really helps that I am able to connect to other neurodiverse writers and know that there is no wrong. You are doing amazing!
@@mj_james_writes Thank you so much !
I think book 3 from the nine fox gambit series is on the shelf behind the cart
It is 😂. No idea why it was packed in my read books. Good eye.
This looks interesting! I hope you find the right and perfect ARC readers 💙
Its rare to find ARCs for audiobooks and I am an audiobook whore
I know audiobooks are just so much more accessible at times!
So many original recs
Is it possible to take annotation in a book with it like on a kobo libra colour? I want to buy a boox tab mini c and I'm interested
Spartk & Tether really sounds like my kinda book, I will pick it up after my latest buying ban. Thanks for sharing, really varied month. Also, because of your t-shirt i would love to know which Enterprise is your favourite? Great wrap up
I’m an Enterprise D person, it was my gateway ship 😂. Absolutely pick up Sparks & Tether when your ban is over.
@@mj_james_writes I certainly will, I always like the movie constitution, but I think more often than not trek ship design is so good
tr.ee/U4f6Ph9S5X - preorder info here!
Love to know how The Darkness Outside Us is, I already have a full list of Pride reads but I want to check that one out soon regardless
I’ve heard good things, but will post a review when I finish.
Heeeey! I’ve been looking for an e tablet like this. Do you know how many days the battery lasts??
It really depends on your settings. With WiFi on and reading and writing extensively it lasts me a week. I put the time on the screensaver and it lasted me a day. With WiFi off I’ve gotten it to last two weeks. So not as great as other ereaders, but enough I don’t have to charge it all the time.
Got it! Thnx
Hoy much does the battery last with the backlight below 50%??
I always keep my backlight below 50%, so depending on other factors such as amount of refresh and wi-fi I would say between a week to two weeks.
How did you get your planner on to the scribe. I can’t get that send to kindle to send a large planner file.
There is an Amazon site called Send to Kindle that works for larger files. Just search for Send to Kindle and it should show up.
@@mj_james_writes that worked great. Thanks!
I love this book so much 😍
Thank you ❤️
can i ask how many colors it has for highlighting? i’m looking for a colored ebook reader coz i like categorizing my annotations in colors 😊 thanks for this short btw!
It gives you an option of 15 color choices (excluding white). However, that includes black, dark gray, medium gray, and light gray as well. There is not an option to add additional colors. For me personally, this has been enough variety for annotations, as well as organizing my planner events by color.
@@mj_james_writes thank u very much! the amount of colors are more than enough to consider a buy for me 😊
Are there any big concerns? I am hoping to purchase one of these in the next few months and would love to know how you feel after a few weeks of using it?
@@Grace-Grace- I have not. Others have mentioned battery life and ghosting, but I switched settings once and I haven’t had any issues. My only micro complaint is that the screen is back from the writing surface unlike other tablets.
Awesome content.
Appreciate it!
Would you recommend reading books with the quest 3?
Not regularly. But if you want an immersive reading experience occasionally it is fun.
I'm thinking about leaving KU, as well.
The benefits just aren’t there anymore for non-romance writers.
@@mj_james_writes The only reason I'm there now is that you can't run a sale unless the book is on KU. I'm starting to think it's not worth it.
You can request for it to be price matched if you put it on sale elsewhere. It is clunky but they haven’t not put it on sale when I have requested it
@@mj_james_writes That's good to know. Is there a phone number to call or something?
Awesome! I haven’t heard of this one before! 👏
