A hobby of mine that I enjoy doing is character analysis.
For many, some characters seem as if they have no personality or other qualities to them. Sometimes, there can be a misunderstanding about who the character truly is. On this channel, I would like to share and discuss the qualities of the characters and see what makes them who they are.
My hope is to show how there is *more to see with the characters-which is what M2C means at the end of my name - *More to characters.

This is a project I wanted to work on for a while. The Zelda series as a whole is one of my favorite video game franchises for its story.
There are many nuances and subtleties in Breath of the Wild's story that I personally don't hear many discuss, and I would like to share them.
Though everyone has a right not to like the story, I feel that many things were well done.
In the Zelda series, I believe that Breath of the Wild has one of the best stories.
If there is something I did not mention but should have, or if there are details that aren't clear, please stay tuned for future videos of the series. I will try to address them the best I can.
I hope this video and this series as a whole is enjoyable.

I certainly think the story gets a lot of odd criticism, like "it can be done in any order" ok, so? Go do it in the order you most enjoy lol. Many video games offer players multiple ways to experience a story, sometimes a game has multiple endings, some games only give true endings on harder difficulties, and some like BotW are non-linear, but the video game medium offers a unique way to tell stories that linear mediums like films don't, which I think BotW does excellently. An example of what I was mentioning earlier is the original Resident Evil trilogy, which are some of my favorite games of all times. But the original has many different ways to see the story, and different endings. You sometimes have to go out of your way to see some scenes, such as when Barry rescues Jill from Plant 42, and similarly you have to take certain routes in RE 3 to get the Barry ending scene which is my favorite ending, so if I want that ending every time I play it, then I'll put in the effort to make sure I see it. Same thing with BotW, if you want to experience the narrative in a certain order, then just put that effort in to experience it that way.

Yes, I don't have an issue if the story is told out of order because when we watch movies, and even other games, seeing a narrative out of order is another way of storytelling, where it gives background info and leads up to the point in the present. When you add everything together, the out-of-order parts, fit together. I feel BOTW does an excellent job as well. I find that the way BOTW's story is made kind of accomplishes both sides in general. If you want to experience the memories on the camera in order you can, but if you want to see it out of order you can do that, too. Very interesting about the RE series. I am looking to get into the series more. What you are saying reminds me of BOTW because in order to get the true ending, you have to get all the memories. If you don't, you will not see the true end. This also makes me feel like traveling through the whole story is worth it in the end because of this. Thank you so much for your time.

I don’t think Breath of the Wild’s story is as bad as most people make it out to be. It was interesting to see Zelda figuring out how to obtain her powers, the relationship between Link and Zelda, the backstory of the four champions, and the history of the Calamity Ganon and Sheikah Technology. I think the fact that you get told the story through fragments that take place in the past is what most people had a problem with because it’s a story that you wish you were actually experiencing and playing instead of just experiencing the aftermath of it all. I would argue that the post apocalyptic world gives off a certain vibe that no other game in the series has and the soundtrack is severely underrated. But a good story should show and not just tell and that’s why I understand where people come from when they say they don’t particularly like the story. I think Tears of the Kingdom story suffers in the same way as well. How everything takes place in the past and you don’t necessarily get to experience it for yourself.
Hello, thank you so much for watching and for your reply. The story of Link and Zelda and their growth is one of the main reasons why I truly liked the game story. Honestly for me, when being told some of the story in the past, I was okay that it was done that way. Seeing parts of the past in cutscene form, or playing through it is something I am indifferent to, personally. Usually when we play through the past in a game or see it in a movie, it is made to give us information during that time. Imo, even if we were to play through the past in BOTW, to give us information from that time, it is something that is still done from us seeing cutscenes. I feel with the cutscenes it's another way how we can experience it. I think the way it was presented where you have to go back and see everything leading to that point made the story interesting, personally. I feel BOTW had a good balance of showing us, and even telling us information. Such as seeing what happened, like in Roham's story, and some of the other cutscenes, too. I have an unpopular opinion, by liking TOTK's story. However, I do wish we saw a bit more. Like seeing the actual fight with Ganondorf. We really didn't see much of it. Bioshock was a fantastic example of an Avatar. Made THAT reveal hit a lot harder. As much as I love my smartass,quipy video game protagonists, there is certainly room for different types of protagonists, silent or not. All in all, nice video! This is a topic with a lot to explore, which made the analysis all the more interesting.
Regarding Mass Effect though, I noticed Shepard's character was handled a lot more differently in 3, where he/she had much more unprompted dialogue, making us wonder whether Shepard was truly an Avatar.
Hi Ray! Thank you so much really!! Yes, I like a Voiced Protagonist as well, but a Silent Protagonist has their place. With Jack from BioShock, I was mostly calling him a Silent Protagonist since he had his own story, personality, etc, whereas an avatar wouldn't really have those things. It was just to show how many Silent Protasgonist are different from each other overall lol.
@@raymonddavis9277 I got you. I'm not too familar with M3 but I thought just using Mass Effect 1 would be a good example since you make the character in the way you would like to, such as their personality, looks, etc.
@@JonnyM2C What I find fascinating about Jack is that your very decisions change the type of character he ultimately becomes. So while he certainly can be a silent protagonist, I think from a different perspective, he could very well be considered an avatar. Either way the "Would you Kindly" twist is something that could only be pulled in a video game, and works wondrously.

Tbf the game Super Smash Bros Brawl Subspace cutscenes has nobody talk, yet we can clearly see there personality traits though there actions and trials. So I guess there are other way of showing personality other then speaking.
