I'm practicing composing in the style of Nocturn. I also challenged myself have a completed work in one weekend instead of taking weeks or months to complete, and I also wanted to make it a relatively simple but elegant piece like a grade 4 or 5 for example. Excellent job Rich, nice even slower pace, helps to bring out the melody on this piece much better than most other players I’ve heard.
Thanks so much! The tempo direction in my score says “allegro, non troopo” which as far as I understand means , “happy but not too much”, so I attempt to dial it back ever so slightly so as to bring out other aspects of this piece.

WOW! Excellent work, sir :) I've only ever heard one other no-nails player handle this. It's on an obscure LP from Brazil and he took it slower than you to get it done. Pretty but not convincing. Yours is convincing - nice!

I thought it would be impossible to make Villalobos études sound good without nails, and you proved me wrong. I hope you upload at least one more 🤓🤓 Did you follow a specific agenda or path to get used to no nails? For example a certain etudes book or a determined exercise (I started a few weeks ago and some things like four string chords feel very hard)
Thank you for your kind comment! I took a lot of inspiration from Rob Mackillop‘s website, and then spent the better part of about three years experimenting, For me what helped is learning to feel the string on the bone of the finger not just the fleshy part but actually feel like I’m digging in enough to where it makes contact with the bone that gives me the volume, control and produces fundamental note pop that makes no nails playing so attractive to me. There’s no one right way to do it. You just have to find your own approach but experiment with the concepts of playing with the bone of your finger and also approach the string in such a way that the string gets lifted up instead of pulled back. And over the years, I struggled with being consistent with the specific point of contact on my finger. If you can accomplish a good level of consistency, you will be able to play more rapid passages like etude or tremolo, etc.. I hope this makes sense. Good luck to you!
