How to keep freeze dried meals hot and cook faster in cold weather || DIY FOOD KOOZIE
Do you call it a "koozie" or a "cozy"?? We've always called it a beer or can koozie, but apparently other people call it a "cozy". Either way, you can easily make one for your freeze dried meals! When it gets cold in Alberta, our meals cool off way too quickly, which results in slower cooking times and cold food! Womp womp, nobody likes cold food... We've seen other outdoor enthusiasts bring these food bags ton hiking trips o insulate their meals. It'll be perfect for ice fishing and winter camping season! It was super easy and cheap to make, so here's how to make your own!

24 hours at the Gun Range: Shooting, Camping, and Alberta Beef
มุมมอง 5314 วันที่ผ่านมา
We spent a cool fall day at our local gun range. Our membership includes free camping on site, so we set up our tent and spent 24-hours enjoying the range. We used out backcountry gear to "test the waters" and give Suzanna a taste of what backcountry camping would feel like. Obviously, we cheated a little and cooked up a gourmet meal with our Coleman stove and Lodge cast iron pot. When we have ...

We were hiking at Elk Island National Park in Alberta when a huge bison blocked out path. This was the only trail back to our car, so we had to wait it out... These animals can be aggressive, so always be cautious when hiking in their territory. Unboxing Video: The Coleman Cascade 3 in 1 Camp Stove
มุมมอง 71028 วันที่ผ่านมา
We hummed and hawed over which stove to buy for camping adventures. We camp A LOT, probably 20-30 nights per year and we love to cook outside, so this was a big decision. After researching and shopping around, we bit the bullet and purchased the Coleman Cascade 3-in-1 stove. We've used it for a handful of camping trip and have zero regrets so far. Let us know if you have any questions and hit S...

Unfortunately, the weekend was gloomy and wet, but we had great company and excellent food (steak and prawns anyone?!). This was another trip where we didn't pre-book a campsite, but we lucked out with a walk-in site on the Icefield's Parkway in Banff, Alberta. Peek that new Coleman stove in action with the double grill plates. A huge upgrade from our old stove! www.colemancanada.ca/stoves-gril...

Great review, looking at getting a new tent from MEC. Just wondering if you need the vestibule when it is raining? I used to have the MEC wander 4 tent and the front door was waterproof so you didn’t have to put the optional vestibule on. Also with the vestibule is there any reason you can’t keep it always attached to the tent if you want to set up quickly in the rain? Thanks again for great overview of the tent, looks easy to set up and lots of room. Like the foam flooring great idea.
You technically don't need the vestibule on when it's raining. There's a 6-8 inch "awning" (if you want to call it that) that overhangs the front entrance. It would be sufficient for light to moderate rain showers. I think if you had heavy rain, where it's coming sideways, then you definitely want the vestibule. The material is thicker and more waterproof than the door itself. I never thought about keeping the vestibule attached to the rain fly for easy set-up. I don't see why not! I think it might be tricky to fold up in the bag, but otherwise I don't see an issue. Thanks for the idea, we'll have to try that! 😉
@@SuLuOutdoors Thanks for the info
I have hiked with a 50+ pound pack before and it SUCKS, and thats as a 200 pound fit dude! But sometimes you just gotta bring lots of beer! The hook is a good idea because half the time i just toss my pack on the ground!
Sometimes you can't sacrifice a good summit beer! 🍻
Nothing like a bison burger and sweet potato fries after a good hike and Mexican standoff with a bison!
Ugh yes please. Sweet potato fries are always the correct choice! 🤤
Reminds me of that woman that got too close to a bison cow and her calf. The bison got her horn under the woman's belt, spun her around a couple of times, and she flew right out of her jeans. The bison walked away with the jeans still stuck to her horn. Was pretty funny. The Navajo message boards were hilarious. Plus, all kinds of handmade Navajo items started appearing featuring the bison with a pair of jeans stuck to its horn. Was quite a phenomenon on the reservation for awhile. lol
We've never heard that story! Very happy to report, we still had our pants after this bison encounter! 😉
@SuLuOutdoors Of course nothing happened to you. You're smart enough to keep your distance, not walk right up to one with a calf like that woman did.
Yeah
Oh my gosh I love it yum yum can’t wait to try thanks great idea

Nothing better than fried rice on a cool fall day! 😊
i think a cold pasta with veggies & shredded chicken would be great
Ooh I love that idea! Definitely adding that to our next menu 🥗
He doesn’t know how to pack his own lunch?
Apparently not, what a dud. Nah just kidding, he was busy prepping other stuff for his trip and would live off protein bars and muffins if it was up to him. 🤷♀️

Not peeling the carrot...
Is that weird? I swear I washed it first... 🥕🥕
Are there any pasta based dishes you would recommend for a 3-day hunting trip?
If you don't have access to a cooler: pack some uncooked dried pasta (big fan of gnocchi because it's calorie dense and you don't need to boil it to cook, so less water use), add some pesto sauce, and a sliced up pepperoni stick. You can freeze a little pesto sauce in a ziploc and it'll be good for a few days without refrigeration. 🍝
If you have a cooler, someone suggested a cold pasta salad with shredded chicken.
She is too humble to say she also has a degree in Foods Science and Nutrition amongst all her other talents 😊

Agreed! Even if you're not camping and hunting, these snacks are top tier 👌
that is useless
Pretty useful to keep us fed...🤷♀️
I have bumped into a few grizzlies hiking to them falls
Oh wow, what time of year was that? Always good to be aware of our surroundings!
Im heading out duck hunting this morning, but I always have my eyes open for Grouse. Im here in Alberta.
Hi fellow Albertan! Good luck, I hope you had a successful hunt!
@SuLuOutdoors I did, thank you. Got some duck and fried it up yesterday for dinner. I need to learn more recipes now!, but it was delicious. Still haven't seen any grouse in my travels yet this year.
Nothing like being on a road trip with your significant other. ❤
Agreed! We love it! 🥰

What is the measurement for your double bed?
It's approximately 6ft long x 4.5ft wide. And 4 inches thick.
Was this Lake Miquelon?
Yes it is!
Aweh I’m sorry to hear you couldn’t get into the lake. I can imagine that the climate change has affected the water level and flow into it. It used to be a nice lake over 10 years ago.
@cynthiadyer9130 Ya it's too bad. The Campground was really nice though!
the last sentence was the important one (at least for me): thats no backpacking tent! 🙂But yeah, looks solid for car camping, guess it keeps you dry and warm. How's ventilation, seemed not that much mesh in there, what about condensation? Cheers, greetings from germany
The roof and 3/4 way down is all mesh, but it's covered by the rain fly. We found it best to open the front window and vestibule to ventilate on warm days. And if there's no rain in the forecast, we remove the rain fly to keep it cool inside. No issues with condensation with or without the rain fly! Thanks for watching! 😊
🙏 Booking a campsite in Banff is not an easy task. Our best advice: on opening day of reservations be READY with all of your campsites, dates, and ideal sites to book. Sign into your account ahead of time and be on the Parks Canada website 10-15 minutes before 8am MST! Once you're in, act fast!! Sites get snatched up every minute, so you don't have time to think about it. 📢 If you're trying to book later in the season, check the Parks Canada website frequently! We often snag a cancellation at fully booked campsites *3 days* prior to our arrival date. Parks Canada cancellation policy is that you can change or cancel up to 3 days prior to arrival and only be charged an $11.50 change fee. So a lot of people who have changes to their plans or who are on the fence due to unpredictable weather will wait until 3 days prior to make their decision and cancel! And you can swoop in and enjoy it! Hope you're all enjoying those peak summer camping trips! 🏕
Camp supplies are things like propane/fuel for our stove, ice for the cooler, and a portion of the national park pass. We get the annual park pass since we go so often and it didn't seem right to add the whole cost of it. 😉
Good tip for getting that motor to work, use an extra trash can the city gives you and fill it with water and place your motor in it until the prop is in water. On the carborater, find the idle and running adjustment and screw the 2 screws all the way in and reset to factory setting (usually found in online forums will tell you how many turns to unscrew your adjustment screws) and motor should start. Fresh gas always helps and another thing too check the gas tank if it has an adustable air vavle too sealed or unsealed will make the engine stall after 100ft good luck guys!!!
Thanks for the tips! We'll give that a try! 🤞
New spark plug, enjoy your day
Ah ok, we will try that! Thank you! 😅
I have the amplify too, have you managed to get out on any hunts with it? How did it go?
I've been out on 2 hunts so far with it, but unfortunately wasn't successful. Definitely not the bows fault though! I've been really happy with its accuracy after changing the rest and sight.
Makes me want to have hot pot now!
It tastes even better when you have mountain views! 🤩
No chocolate, no way it's better than s'mores
Alright, MAYBE add a piece of chocolate and sandwich it between Graham crackers... that's another level up 😉
Stop smoking
The only thing I'm inhaling is camp fire smoke 🤷♀️ 🚭

Holycrap. You spent more in a weekend on pleasure than a Manitoban on disability receives for 2 months income... ($435-490 a month for disability in Manitoba)
Oof, that's rough! 💔 It's true, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel and rent this van.
Extra cost if others added on?
No extra cost to add a second driver 😊 There were a bunch of add-on items that you could pay extra for (towels, chairs, cooler, etc). Scroll to 11:05 and we show the price breakdown
How much for the rental?
Van Rental was around $300 because we booked it for a one-way deal. That included the insurance coverage. If you scroll to 11:05 we talk about the cost and booking. 😊
