I love how most of the protagonist specials represents their most skills Michael is skilled in shooting and his special ability is perfect for shooting Franklin is a former repo and has max out driving their for his special abilities focuses on driving Meanwhile Trevor has a max out strength and his special ability is invincibility

Not the biggest fan of abilities in GTA kinda felt like the protagonist were just regular people trying to make it to where they want to be.

special abilities backstory theories michael: he will take very deep breaths and calm his mind down while shooting which helps him concentrate on the shooting. not known much, maybe he either trained a lot with guns and shootings. franklin: again, he will focus really hard while driving which most likely was developed when he first met lamar and were driving around but lamar was driving recklessly to the point franklin almost loses track of him which makes him concentrate more when he speeds and drives recklessly too so he doesnt do that mistake. You can also hear his heartbeat while using the special ability. trevor: his rough childhood caused him to get really angry which he also developed IED (Intermittent explosive disorder) and he rages so much he can almost go to the point where hes almost invincible, he also gives off alot of damage which is from his rage when damaging one another. at the end you can hear some train tracks screeching which is most likely a flashback from north yankton from the prologue while him and michael tried to escape from their first heist and a train hit them.
