It was nice to watch this with some people who have reverence for the material. Other reaction channels talk all over it and it ruins it.

This film really helps. Ever since watching Star Trek Beyond, I always wondered, what happened to Spock after his body died? If you remember Star Trek 3 The Search for Spock, Vulcans are able to use their mind melding abilities to save their conscience minds (Katras) inside the minds of people they trust before their physical bodies died. This made me wonder, What happened to Spock Primes Katra in Star trek Beyond? He can't stay in that reality. His knowledge of the federations future could fall into the wrong hands. Vulcans can't be trusted (Star trek Enterprise and Star trek Discovery shows why). He can't go to Starfleet (Section 31 and people like Admiral Marcus in Star trek Into Darkness), and it wouldn't be right if someone as achieved as him just had his Katra fade away, as Sarek showed to be afraid of in Star trek 3. This film shows that before he died, a manifestation of his James T. Kirk arrived. He could have joined with him, and they were both sent to where they needed to be: Home.

Just to Clarify we misspoke when we said Gary 7, we are aware it's Gary Mitchell but thanks to everyone who has jumped to defend Gary Mitchell's honor.

After watching this many times during the previous few days, I am struck by some of the similarities between Unification and the final few minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Gary Lockwood is in both. Some of the cinematography is as well. The main subject sees himself at different points of his life. There is no dialogue. Things are not explained - the audience is supposed to add meaning to the film. Things have a dream-like quality. Just an observation on my part.

I don't think Shatner was anywhere near the shooting for this. It really looks like another stand-in was used as a body double, and maybe even face-double, before VFX were applied. And even then, it's fair to state that Shatner is reprising the role of Kirk, because it is his likeness. besides all that.. very emotional and welcome Short!

Lots of deep dives involved here. The Unification is meant to be every iteration of from the original pilot, comic stories, unused plots, kelvin, and nu Trek. Kirk is very much alive again.

It wasn't William shatner it was Sam Witwer physically playing Kirk btw.

Shatner definitely provided the facial expressions.

Gary Seven was in "Assignment: Earth." He was played by Robert Lansing. Gary Mitchell was played by Gary Lockwood, in "Where No Man Has Gone Before."

Did you notice when Kirk is walking up to Spock on the table by the water the Photo case from Star Trek Beyond. Alot of It Colt in the beginning

I don't necessarily see this as a send off for Kirk. It opens the door for other things, since things are now "unified". None the less, it was a powerful short for sure!

Those 2 met so many incredible beings on their travels, fair enough one of those beings would wield their power to let these 2 friends share this moment as a last favor.

As usual I cried. All my life I wished for friendships like they had. Came close several times but never that close. Maybe if I had stayed in the Navy. I would love to visit the universe where I did stay to see how it turned out.

This really should be added to the end of Generations when Kirk dies. It would be like the Donner Cut of Superman II. I think fans really needed this kind of closure for Kirk

Closure - The first Star Trek episode I watched was in 1966 upon my return from Vietnam. It showed there was hope even when things looked bad.

This was done by people who care deeply about Star Trek and its fans

It's Sam Witwer with Kirk's AI face and Lawrence Selleck as Spock. You can't deage Shatner's 93 year old body. Might as well use a full CGI Kirk. And, yes, Sam Witwer as in Crackdown from BSG and Starkiller from Force Unleashed.

I don’t understand why this is getting such Amazing reviews.. it was 100x better than Picard season one and two but besides the end I’m not sure what the f it’s about? What was the point of showing Gary Mitchel? Is he still alive? How did Kirk come to be? Was he in some dream sequence? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I think this just symbolizes how mess up modern Trek has become and how much we miss the old??

I loved this short film. It was amazing and the most Star Trek thing since 2005. Absolutely brilliant. Love William Shatner. ❤️

- Saavik and Spock's son from their time on Genesis finally becoming canon. - The alien giving Kirk the comms badge is the time travelling alien from Discovery from the Kelvin timeline. - The memory cave reminds me of the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey. - On the table at Kirk approaches Spock is the photo that Spock gave to Kelvin Spock of his Enterprise crew. - The credits list "Crusher" as being there somewhere.

Have you even ever seen the original Batman Beyond series? The girl was Melanie, aka Ten from the Royal Flush Gang. She crushed hard on Terry but could never be with him due to her loyalty to her family. This film was more for fans of the animated series with that sort of nod to the lore. I can see why some casuals will be lost, other reactors like Tyrone Magnus, Gor etc had no idea what was going on, having only watched the cartoon when they were kids.

That was Beast Boy from Titans. He would make a good Terry McGinnis now Titans is cancelled. This was a good fan film that deserved an ending more to the scenarios you guys were describing. I also give it an 8/10. The Royal Flush gang are a group of 5 with various versions of them being depicted over the years.
