It is the moral center. The codice (the book) represents the law, which was invented to protect us from all killing each other. The miracle is: it works sometimes.
@@gamerdaddy Yeah It's hard to put an exact reason why this part is so compelling. Is it the smooth transitions between numbers which perfectly matches the escalation of chaos and emotion, or the simple humor of seeing Don Magnifico strutting in with the census and being ignored by everyone? I come back to this scene every couple months haha.
@@michaeljurado7224 Haha, same here, dude. Big hug from BRASIL! :D Could you please tell me where you're from? You see, I was born in the 70s and I still find AMAZING being able to talk with people from all over the world, lol.
Wonderful Montarsolo, he is the best basso-buffo ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a talented singing actor. He said in an interview(in Italian) that he didn't know how he managed to act buffo roles. He said that acting "just" comes, you don't have to think about it. I think you don't have to think to acting only if you aren't a common mortal being, but a genius like him!
@@TimothyCHenderson I saw him perform Don Pasquale at San Francisco in 1984 or 85. When he was slapped by Norina and rejected by her Montarsolo ‘s performance of a man realizing his foolishness was crushing. It brought tears to the eyes of the audience. He was “Magnifico” in non-buffo roles too.
The best Cenerentola I ever saw was Flicka and Rocky Blake .......next best was the NYCO production - was in PBS in late 1980....Rocky as the Prince, Gianna Rolandi as one of the sisters, A!an Titus as Dandini, Susanne Marsee as Cenerentola
The great italian director Gianandrea Gavazzeni (1909-1996) - probably the one and the only "Kapellmeister" of italian music direction - He did never loves Rossini too much. However, Gavazzeni did record one Opera of Him: La Cenerentola. I think this is because this Opera it's the best Rossini's work ever. The Drama could be not so perfect, but Musically it's a insuperable composition.
In regards to the comment below: I'd say she is. This piece is so amazing. I listen to it when I work-out. Does anyone know where I could find the DVD for this?
Oh my goodness, that performance was EXTRAORDINARY. I demand to know the singers' names, they are all fabulous. Especially Angelina: I have always said that no one would ever beat Cecilia Bartoli as Angelina, but I was just proved wrong! Does anyone know where I can get the video or DVD of this? This is fabulous, really. And I have to admit: I think I am falling for that Don Ramiro!

I used to watch this with my father in Tele+ so many years ago. I thank him for showing me what good, timeless music is.

Happy to see someone else describe this section of the opera as the best. I agree, particularly on the musical front, after 7:00

Utterly charming and astonishing performances all round..Full opera is available on uTube HD with Eng Subs th-cam.com/video/SeVezYX1m6M/w-d-xo.html
thanks for the English subtitles
This is the Milan 1981 presentation, directed by Claudio Abbado.
Staging by Jean -Pierre Ponnelle. Unsurpassed.!
Hard for me to understand why this is "the best part." The opera is a masterpiece from start to finish.
It is the moral center. The codice (the book) represents the law, which was invented to protect us from all killing each other. The miracle is: it works sometimes.
Actually, and i know this is subjective, this is my favorite part of the opera before i even saw this video!
@@michaeljurado7224 That's my favorite part of Cenerentola too.

best part........for the love of god.
Fabulous singing and acting its just a shame the Prince looks rather like Blackadder
Damn! Not taking any prisoners I see...
He is cute though.

He loves what he is doing that´s why. And he is having fun too. Persona in persona.
Never seen him in a straight up, 100% serious role but his Don Alfonso in Ponnelle's Cosi was chilling to the bone. The best Don Alfonso ever.

Great to have the English interpretation included!

Cinderella... Brilliant and hillarious... gras!
Brilliant!
Assolutamente d'accordo :)
What a beautifull performance. The best I ever seen. Thanks!!
The best Cenerentola!
This is amazing!
3:11 is one of the most beautiful moments in opera.
LMAO 6:06- 6.23 made me laugh so hardd.
thanks a lot, I have it on casette

Looks like Flicka .....in my opinion, one of quite a few *vastly* better in this role than Bartoli
