Wow What they call late models is different from track to track I think at this time at riverhead raceway they would have called these cars chargers These cars look like they are on factory chassis as opposed to the fabricated today

I would've loved to see how Darrell walltirp was when he was winning races and if you think about it im pretty sure Dale Sr would've given Darrell walltirp and change to drive his car full time as a 4th driver.

Back then I was working for ARCA. Our Saturday race was rained out, and was to run after the Cup race on Monday. Between the regular Monday traffic and those who were coming back for the race, it caused some Cup officials to be late. I had the pleasure of working turn 2 as a track spotter and corner flagman (just the yellow, of course). I got to wave DW off on the parade laps for his last race. You hang around racing long enough, and you get to do these little things that don't mean much to others, but they all add up to a big deal to me.

Such a successful, heartbreaking tragedy that happened to this legend years down the road. A truly iconic, hardworking both on and off the tracks, a legend on the short tracks (ASA), a beloved driver loved, admired and respected by his peers. I always hoped that just for 1 time he would get a win in the Winston Cup Series. May these victories of this man live on forever. R.I.P. DT.🙌🏻

I always thank Dale for hiring DW to drive the 1 while Steve recovered. That stint lit a 🔥 in him. It was like the DW of old. He was having fun, he was smiling, hanging with his best pal.....wish it lasted longer. Thanks Dale for doing that.

I'm probably one of the only people that can tell you thumbs up for the Eddie Marshall profile pic I had a nice Convo with him years ago at Middletown about how he drove Syracuse amazing guy.

It's almost eerie to hear Dale talking about retiring and being 50 years old and knowing he would be gone in less then 4 months from this day.

Saddest thing on my mind is that Dale had less than 90 days to live when this was taken.
