Hey Everyone! We had the chance to visit Stonehenge and Salisbury both of which were amazing. I never thought I'd get to see Stonehenge I'm so glad I had the chance to go. Hi Gretchen! I’m a current sophomore studying business at my university and I’ve been watching to transfer to or attend NYU TISCH for the last two years but the pandemic made it very hard to do so. I was in a business program for more of a backup plan and I actually started garnering acting experience last year. If I transferred to Tisch for Fall 22, I’m not sure how many years it would take to graduate? I’m hoping to study acting for film but also am interested in learning the root principles of drama and theater acting while majoring in something like Economics to help me if I wanted to work anywhere as a day job. How flexible is NYU TISCH with transfer students (if you’ve met any) and double majoring?
Hi there!, I am Australian, I had started applying to NYU although it is pretty last minute, and I dont think my teacher recommendations will come thru in time especially during this busy holiday season, also it is harder to translate my academic scores against the U.S. system. Anyway's I guess I just wanted to ask a fellow artist and student this, especailly seeing you're video's you jusrt seem incredibly nice and supportive! I am continuing tossing and turning in where and what to study. I always knew I would pursue acting no matter what I do however i also do have some interest in film and thought it could be useful to aquire some of that knowledge to help me with a career in the film industry in general, so I thought i would study a degree in film whilst pursuing acting part time along side that as there are no degree's here that offer both. However I have been going back on my decision and what to do I have auditioned to a few good acting schools across the country that I have not gotten accepted to. There is a course I gotr into but I am not sure about it, it is only 2 years it seems good. I guess I just wanted to here your opinion seeing as I am going to be pursuing acting and I do really like it and feel better when I do it. I compare myself to people especailly famous ones I see in tv shows and their path which makes me question myself more and contradict myself under stress. The U.S start their school yesrs differently to Australia so if I cannot apply this year it will feel like waiting two years. Just wanted to hear from a passionate actor or idk I guess just wanted to get this out.
So basically the steps are apply, get in or/dont, but essentially you get matched to studio, Im wondering how hard it was to get into the student housing
Hi! Could you talk a bit more about each studio? Like what are they alike, differences, pros, cons? I'm applying for Fall 2022 and I'm super excited! Thanks!
Hi, What the best program for actors. Of NYU drama, Nyfa or julliard?
I'll be in Weinstein next semester. Thanks for doing this vid!!!
It has been a few years since you posted this but I just wanted to say that you have pushed me to commit to NYU Tisch today! Thank you for your kind words and it has really made this big decision much easier for me.
Cool
Hey! Do all the acting studios take the same classes but at different times or do the classes/professors vary between studios?
Hi, Gretchen. I'm a student at pratt and I'm researching performance as well as performance spaces for my thesis. So (of course) I'm researching Tisch. but it's been really hard to do field trips lately. I learned that you have a lot of studios! And all have their own teaching styles. But I'm having a really hard time understanding exactly how they differ, especially spatially! Can you provide some additional information? Like pictures or something? if that's ok?
Do any other studios do MT besides NSB?
Is it competitive?
I was wondering, did you audition for musical theater college programs? It sounds like you did a lot of music and dance in high school. Did you get into some musical theatre programs and then just ultimately decide that NYU Acting was best for you?
Hey! Yes, that's it exactly. I auditioned MT at almost every college and was accepted to many but I knew NYU was the right place for me. In truth I didn't need more voice/dance work I really needed some time to focus on my acting and that is what NYU saw as well.
Do you need to be able to sing to get into certain courses
this advice was really helpful! this year, auditions for acting schools (at least for the one i’m interested in) is online. they do a live review. & one of the things you have to upload is a headshot & resume. i don’t have a resume, this summer i did a 2 week acting program & it was so amazing & it convinced me i need to pursue it. i’m sure having no resume is a turn off so should i even consider applying to acting schools or do my best to make sure the audition is enough to show them what i got ?
Built as the Academy of Music in 1927 to replace the original site which was torn down to accommodate the construction of the Con Edison building on 14th Street, this legendary music venue hosted an incredible array of performers over it's 70 year existence. In 1997 NYU bought the building and demolished it to make way for a 12-story, 1,100 bed, dormitory. To rub salt into the wound, they named the new building Palladium Hall. This design pays tribute to the original Palladium concert hall and features the mural that graced it's facade along with the incredible bands that performed there. Unfortunately, Amazon made it unsearchable so this link is the only way to find it. www.amazon.com/dp/B08D83BKV6
Hello dude how are you ? Can I get into tisch with full ride scholarship ? 1590 sat 3.95 gpa ? And Is tisch film and Tv program expensive ?? Additional fees ? How much ? I'm International student from Azerbaijan.
I will apply for the NYU Tisch drama program for 2021. Would you be OK with connecting and answering some of my questions?
I love musical theatre but I prefer tv/film acting. Does NYU have a good film acting program?
Hey, is it possible to make NYU with a french bac STMG ? Pls
Looking back on it all, did the Sorting Hat put you in the right house? Was Atlantic the best studio for you?
100% Atlantic was where I needed to be to grow my craft in those first few years.
@@bestgretchen754 Awesome. Thanks for all of these videos. Best wishes to you and your acting career.
Hey I just got assigned ETW ! Would you have any info about that studio?
That's so exciting congratulations! You'll be in great hands at ETW - is there any specific info/questions I can try to answer? I'm less familiar obviously but still know some/others who could answer. Welcome to NYU tisch!
@@bestgretchen754 thanks for replying, I have a couple specific questions ! I've heard ETW is one of the smaller studio, I was wondering how small exactly. I'm also confused about the location of the studio, I couldn't find anything about it online. Lastly, do you know if there are a lot of international students in that studio, or in Tisch drama in general ? I'm french and I know that NYU has a lot of international students but I haven't seen any in that specific major. It's okay if you can't answer all of these questions but if you have any other random information you'd like to share about ETW I'm all ears !
@@ombelinedepaz7399 I'm not sure on the size but none of the studios are vastly larger or smaller than another. Your ETW first year class will be between 30-60 students probably. However, you will then be broken down into smaller studio groups that you'll do training with 10-20. ETW is super fortunate in that they are housed within the main Tisch building which in right on campus near WSP at 720 Broadway. There are international students in all of our studios! There aren't as many international as American but I studied with students from many different countries. France included! I was raised in Colorado but the first 5 years of my schooling were taught all in French and I continued studying till college. I'm close to fluent. At one point my friend Zoe who is from France and I were able to work on a scene together in French. So don't worry you'll be in good hands an NYU/ETW. I think the biggest thing for any of the studios in the first year is to trust. Trust the process, trust your ensemble, and trust yourself. It won't all make sense right away so just trust and keep going! Best, Gretchen

Hi! Do you have any advice on how to gain acting experience? I am currently in grade 10 and am taking a drama course in high school. I feel like I would need a lot more experience though and just don't what exactly to do. Do you have any advice? :)
Hey! For sure and good on you for starting to think ahead to gain that experience! I would say to start by looking at any regional theaters in your community. See if they have any youth programs you could get involved with. If that is difficult to do financially I would write an email to the head of the theater and see if they would be willing to negotiate on the price/if you could do some work for the theater to compensate. Audition for any out of school productions you can find. If there is a local actor who's work you admire you might reach out to them and see if they would be willing to sit down and talk with you about opportunities in the community/if they would mentor you. My mentors are like 90% of the reason I've had so many wonderful opportunities. You could also reach out to directors to put you in contact with some actors to talk to. My biggest advice would be to take a lot of bites of the apple. Explore a bunch of opportunities because not all of them will pan out. It may feel overwhelming so I'd suggest setting aside hour long chunks when you put the phone to the side and research/apply to opportunities. Doing it all at once can feel like a lot but an hour of focus at a time? I know you can do that. Also, start looking for your audition materials NOW you'll thank yourself in a year. Good luck I'm rooting for you! Best, Gretchen
@@bestgretchen754 thank you sooo muchhh!!!!!
@@bestgretchen754 Also, could I contact you on instagram to ask a few more questions? If you don't mind :)
What are the basic academic requirements you need to get into NYU and hows your resume should look like?
Hey im really desperate for help! Im from.greece and i want a scholarship to get in tishc because i dont have the money but i cant find anything .It would mean a lot to me if you helped me
Ah! I'm a current junior so I'm just about starting my monologue search, but I'm having the hardest time finding plays with teen girl characters to read and pull from (especially contemporary ones that aren't about rape? or abortion?- not sure whats up with that). NYU is one of my top schools right now, do you have any recommendations of plays to read?
Try Tennessee Williams and Tony Kushner!
Hey I know this was a year ago but I have a question. Do you have to sing and dance for the audition when you are ONLY interested in acting? I’m not a good singer or dancer and am not interested in those two things so I was just curious 😁
Hey you! No worries. Yes, you can 100% opt to only audition for the acting only studios. In that case you will only do 2 monologues and an interview at your audition. Hope that helps! Best, Gretchen
Thanks!!!!!
Your audition sound more like a theater audition. Not the drama audition. Are you audition for Musical Theater?
Hey there! I'm not sure what you're asking. I auditioned for both acting only studios and for the musical theatre studio as well. Hope that answers your question! Best, Gretchen
Hey, I just watched your video and I am currently in the process of applying to transfer to tisch for drama. Would it be possible for us to have an in depth discussion about professors and syllabus outlines. I feel like it would be good material to add to my why nyu essay. Love your video by the way!
Hi friend! Sorry I missed this if there are still any questions I can answer let me know! Hope it went well for you! Best, Gretchen
Hii Gretchen!! I love your videos they’re so informative!! I wanted to know if you knew if I am able to transfer to Tisch from community college?? Thank you for these videos btw😊
Hey! Glad I was able to help out in some small way - and yes! You can absolutely transfer in from a community college. It's the same audition process and you will start with the freshman class in Tisch but some credits may transfer so you might be able to finish faster than 5 years. Many people transfer into NYU and actually have better luck that way. Many of my dear friends were transfers. Wishing you luck! Best, Gretchen
Hi Gretchen - Just wondering if you ever lived in a dorm without a kitchen... being vegan. How difficult you think it might be? I know Lipton has a vegan dining hall is that something you take advantage of? Thanks any thoughts would be helpful as my daughter will be a freshman next year and is trying to figure out how she is going to manage being vegan at NYU.
Hey! First off congrats to your daughter how exciting. My freshman year I was in Weinstien and had no kitchen. At the time I was only vegetarian having not transitioned to vegan yet. However, that being said I ate in the dining halls regularly during Sophomore year (and on) after having transitioned. NYU has started clearly marking vegan options in all dining halls and while it may not always be the best food there are always options. Just last month I went with an underclassman to Weinstien's foodcourt and was able to grab rice, baked sweet potatoes, roasted peppers and onion, a purple cabbage salad and more. As far as having no kitchen she will likely be able to have a microwave and a small fridge. If that's possible I would recommend it so she can help supplement with her own foods. I used to do oatmeal in the microwave with pb and berries all the time for breakfast. I also had some bars on hand and other snacks. Might be a good idea to go with the lowest meal plan option possible so she can have a little wiggle room budget wise to get other items. It is certainly possible to keep vegan while at NYU even if you have no kitchen and only do meal plan. The only thing I would suggest she watch out for is that she doesn't end up making too many only veg and carb meals. Now I say this as a vegan who knows we get plenty of protein and typically never thinks about it but... while thier are protein options chickpeas, felafel, tofu, pb, etc but I will say the plant based options can be less abundant in that department. There are also nutrition specialists through NYU's Moses center if for any reason she really feels she's struggling. That all being said we have almost 10 dining halls and they all offer a wide variety of foods so she will be just fine. In fact she'll probably be overwhelmed by the choices. Hope that helps let me know if I can answer anything else! Best, Gretchen
Thank you so much! The video was really really helpful. I appreciate your work sooooo much.
Hi, I'm from Peru and NYU is my dream, but i finish school at 16 ( that's the educational system here 11th grade ) and I don't know if I will be able to apply since I'm not enrolled in any IB program and I'm not sure if I have to go to High School US ( don't even know if I would be able to afford it ) so if you or someone could help me... :( ♥️
you have a very disney princess voice
You are so nice, are you just getting your bfa or are you going to get your masters as well. I plan on going there for grad in 3 years.
That is so kind of you to say thank you! At the moment only my BFA but NYU's Grad school for Tisch is absolutely incredible you would be in outstanding hands.
Interesting info, thanks! 7:40 - Whoa Indian food huh? Good taste :) Any favorite dishes? Another thing about India... just thought I'd mention it - looks like the daughter of one of Bollywood's most famous actors is attending Tisch this fall. You may not have heard of him much if you don't know about Indian films/culture, but Shah Rukh Khan is pretty much worshipped in India (and London, Middle East, etc) due to his success/celebrity, and his family are treated like stars. So his daughter Suhana is a paparazzi/media favorite, one of the most photographed star-kids in Mumbai - just google her and see :) Just thought I'd tell you since you may see her and SRK for Welcome Week next week. And if you see her, since you like to help people out, maybe you can show her the ropes and give her helpful tips, and maybe she'll reciprocate by telling you how the film scene is in India and how they live large there. Then you can both bond over Indian food :)
Haha good to know!
Nice video but IMO the lighting is a bit too low, maybe nearer to the window would be better
How many applicants do they accept every year?
There is no set number but they typically accept only about 17% of all applicants.
What is the highest scholarship they can give for international students? I cant afford to pay this uni if i dont get a scholarship. They dont have full tuition scholarship , do they? I want to apply for BA Acting(i dont know how it s called the bachelors degree in us -undergraduate ) I have just decided to apply to nyu after i watched your video haha
I wish I could be of more help but in regards to finance questions I would say to reach out to NYU directly to ask what options exist because it is such a case by case scenario. I wish you the best of luck though!
Hi I was wondering if the Bachelor of Fine Arts Theatre at Tisch the same course as drama? or the course you're doing?
Hi, so I know that for applying to any USA college you need to be at least 18, and I'm ending high school at 16 years, so I have one year before applying to NYU Tisch Drama What preparation do you think is important to develop in this free year I have? Maybe learn an instrument? Work on my acting? Thanks for the video, is so helpful
It's funny how you guys have crew assignments. My college has the same thing. What technique do they teach you? Stanislavsky, Strasberg, Hagen, Adler, Chekhov?
I think it depends on studio. The Atlantic studio focuses on David Mamet’s technique outlined in A Practical Handbook for the Actor. I know another studio does Method etc
Samantha Camire my program is practical aesthetics and uta hagen.
Interesting video! I assume things are a little different with the MFA?
