I'm fixing everything wrong with my 3 acre farmhouse. My mission is to make my house and property perfect. I know that is only a goal and not practically achievable, but the pursuit is what I find the most fun. So, hang out with me as I go through the motions of fixing everything one detail at a time.

This is part 2 of remodeling the closet in my garage. I was tired of how ugly and unfinished it was so i finally decided to do something about it.

I like it and use a lot of drill stem pipe on my farm in southwest LA. However, with our hurricanes these cable tension doesn't work for preventing uplift. Wind gets under it and starts flexing up for hours and then its gone.😊
Are the batten made from wood or vinyl?
Makes for a nice clothes hanger. +
Very nice
Saw the same at my grandpas carpenter shop ceiling. Really old wood beams, tensioned by twisted rope and a stick.
Bhahaha how’s that headroom
Did you mean to say that you realized that the piping you had available was of too thin a wall thickness to support the span you were traveling? The "circular stuff or pipe" as you say is the cats ass when looking for structural integrity . Corners are the weakest point in any shape or size hollow material barring an improperly fused seam . What I'm saying without churching it up is that a circle ain't got not one damn weak spot to deflect or fail . A perfect circle and whatnot lol . On nother note minnows will kill themselves if you give them a corner hence why minnow buckets and most non aerated love wells are round or least have rounded.corners . That's good shit you got going on there just the same . You might say you're cheap but I was always told that a poor man has poor ways . If making something from nothin was easy little Suzie would be doing it right ?
Ya I bet it will be in the next county with a g 1 tornado
Nice, what's it purpose???
Hell I just wired a Jon boat and made trailer for it with stuff I had laying in the shop me and daddy kept over the years why buy something when you can make it with scrap material we live in a throw away society I wasn’t raised like that
Totally flexs as butter ball pulls up
What is the span for?
Compression, Tension, Statics, well done!
My thought would be it would go on top to support the weight below how exactly does it support anything from below. I'm actually curious.
This is how they straiten the back stop on a sheet metal sheer too.
The fun is in tensioning the cable
i asked this on your video about 5 minutes ago 😂 found the answer!
Glad you found the answer! 😉
Add the correct number of cable clamps, and put them on correctly. Look up Crosby Clamps.
I used the aluminum ferrules which are as strong as the cable
great fix but what are you putting the pipes up for to begin with? no insult just genuine ignorance/curiosity
I hate when I get yo that point
Oh the cable is pushing up😮😂
Congratulations! You tried to be an engineer and failed, but you have succeeded as an architect. 😂
Yea I have but I use 1 in square tubing and 1 in strap to do what you just did.
Off roaders have been doing this forever to keep the front axles from flexing. Old timers use a chain. .
on catamarans that’s called a Dolphin Striker. the on on the fwd beam is called a seagull striker.
Damn you’ve got serious dandruff!!
That's f-ckin cool man!!😀
I like the fact that you notched the wood but instead of toenailing I would have gotten some strapping material. I think it would give you a more secure joint.
And I thought you just made a clothesline.
Awesome
Engineer of problem solving here- good job. I like it it's only dumb if ti doesn't work
Same basic idea you would see used in old WWI & WWII air planes where they had the wire putting the fusalage under compression.
Say, that's a pretty fancy air dry clothes line! Other than that, I can't figure out what the heck it's for. I suppose the guy posting it wants us to let our imagination run wild!
I just posted a follow up video that will answer that question.
Could you put the cable on top?
Nice workspot. The ched and the surroundings made me curious and the curiosity forced me to follow 😂💯💪
Thanks!
I think it's great! put turnbuckles on either end, and you can use them to pre-load the truss if you know you're going to be putting an excessive load on it.
Is there an advantage to having the cable on the bottom?
I'm guessing 5000 pounds in the cables, one foot high stub in the center, 20 foot span, that's 250 pounds up in the center, but why, there's no load in the center but pipe weight, and why'z the pipe there in the first place? PS. Measure the tension in the cable by hanging a 50 pound weight on the mid point of one of the cables and measuring the deflection of the cable. Say 2 inches divided into 50 pounds times 240 inches equals 6000 pounds (close to my 5000 pound estimate)
I just posted a new short that explains.
Yup all the time
Only problem is the cable is on the bottom of the pipe in the way of your pull-ups
Shouldve put it the other way around lol i just imagine every time I walk to my shead just hitting my head on that nub
You had me and “being really cheap”😂
And I see you did not take time in your prep work to properly secure your underlayment. It should not be wrinkled catching wind. 😮
THAT IS A GREAT IDEA ❤❤❤!!!.Thank you for your videos ❤❤❤!!!.sincerely yours Bear ❤❤❤!!!.
All day everyday brother. Aint ever had the money to just up and buy all brand new stuff.
Dude. I love it. Now to learn how to weld.
You should!
Looks good! Was this used oilfield pipe you got cheap or just some extra material left over from a previous job? Either way, looks good.
Thank you! It is used pipe that I got for cheap.
Yeah but you learned something, fixed the problem and ended up with something that is really cool! I would clean it up and paint it so it doesn’t rust out on you. But it’s a nice project
Animals' legs get caught. Definitely for cows or horses. Use 'no climb' fence fabric.
I'm not using it for cows or horses.
Thank you
Hope you enjoyed it.
