    10 21 24 great job great info reading comments says root cause was corroded fuse … get ready to replace the cheap Chinese ignition switch in future they make them so cheap (loose key way and contacts. I solved my problem prior to seeing your video, I got stuck at the ignition switch these mower ignition switches has independent run and start circuits where as the automotive ignition switches when turned to start this connection also energizes the run circuit. The ultimate problem was a shorted solenoid coil plus my confusion on the safety switches and ignition switch on a hustler zero turn ..thanks for your knowledge …Bob😊

    I recently came across a Honda gcv190-powered lawn mower that had the same problem. I didn't notice the migrated valve guide the first time around-- if I recall, the exhaust valve was stuck, so I freed up the valve and just replaced the rocker arm. And the replacement rocker arm was broken within a few months.. My bad. At least in working on a cold engine, it took quite a lot of effort to drive the guide all the way back in with a 7 mm socket as a driver. I assume during operation, when the block heats up, the guide may be significantly looser in its bore. Do you know for sure from experience that this is likely to be a rapidly recurrent problem and therefore that the seal is necessary? Or did you add it " just in case" since the fact that the problem occurred initially was compelling enough that it was likely to happen again? There are a few internet references to this particular problem with the Honda GCV line of engines, but there is not much online documentation! Also, do you know if it is possible to drive the guide too deep into the block so that the valve does not seat properly? I drove it in essentially to the level of the small retaining ring near the top of the guide. Thanks much for your help, and for your excellent video presentation.

    • @netdoctor1
      @netdoctor1 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry I missed this comment when it first appeared. I'm usually vigilant about watching for that kind of feedback. *My sincere apologies.* _Do you know for sure from experience that this is likely to be a rapidly recurrent problem and therefore that the seal is necessary?_ No. I have no real experience apart from this specific machine that I owned. Much of what I shared here is either research from TH-cam, or my own findings/speculation. My assumption was that it would migrate outward again, for the same reason it did initially. Therefore, I consider the "extra seal" solution to be *absolutely necessary* to prevent reoccurrence. _Also, do you know if it is possible to drive the guide too deep into the block so that the valve does not seat properly?_ I do not believe that possible. I drove it in until it bottomed out; that's where I stopped. I verified that the lifter no longer contacted the guide before reassembling everything. My sincere thanks for your feedback.

    I have 16 ga wire will that work for my relay to the solenoid and the key switch as well ? I made a jumper for the solenoid to the battery but I still get a click to the solenoid why would that happen ? _"I have 16 ga wire will that work for my relay to the solenoid and the key switch as well ?"_ Probably. I think the original wiring is 16; I'm not sure. I would *not* go any lighter than 16. _"I made a jumper for the solenoid to the battery but I still get a click to the solenoid why would that happen ?"_ If you're telling me that you did it exactly as I showed in the video, I'd say one of two things is true: 1. The plunger in the solenoid is moving, but the contacts inside are burnt and not passing current through, or 2. The solenoid is working, but the starter is no good. (It is also possible that the battery voltage is low and needs charged or replaced.) Try this test: Take a set of jumper cables and carefully jump from the red terminal on the battery directly to the red connection on the starter motor. If the motor cranks, it is okay. If the motor doesn't move, it is probably no good. *Remember: I am not there to confirm what you are reporting as your findings. I am happy to try to advise, but I could possibly be sending you in the wrong direction. Always use good judgement, and always guarantee your safety first.*

      Well, sir, certainly a new exhaust rocker, including the adjustment screw and locking nut. The new rocker may not include those parts. As a retired senior test engineer, I prefer to fix the root cause instead of the symptom. But if the cause is too expensive to too difficult to fix easily, your fix is practical and safe. I’m glad you found the root cause. In a case like this, I look for voltage drops and fix those.

    • @netdoctor1
      @netdoctor1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, my friend. Although I will never personally advise anyone to defeat safeties on their machine, I recognize that you're a big boy who is willing to be responsible for the outcome. Having said that, I think I agree with your assertion. The 12v you get at the key switch when you (temporarily) switch to the Start position can go straight to the relay coil, and the other small terminal on the relay coil goes to ground. If you have a three-wire solenoid, then it is already grounded where it's mounted. Then the large terminals on the solenoid power the starter directly. If it uses one of these heavy-duty solenoids like mine, then your new relay goes to power the heavy-duty solenoid.

    Neglected to include this, but get a good look at the lobe on that cam assembly. If it is worn down at all, your valves may not open fully. Also, make sure the compression release lever on the cam assembly is working smoothly. If it hangs up, you will not have any compression release, and the rope will be hard to pull again. It is not difficult to replace and time if needed.

    Hate that gasket sealer, too. About 2 years ago I used a piece of paper pressed into the valve cover to indent an outline. Then I cut that paper around the indentations. Next I carefully took a Sharpie & traced around the paper template onto a basic piece of Felpro gasket material. With scissors & an exacto knife, I cut the gasket after which I used a punch to make the holes for the screws. I inserted the homemade gasket into the cover & tightened it down, 2 years later & no leaks. I might also add that I used the gasket to make another template onto a piece of cardboard for future use since cardboard is a lot easier to trace around than my original paper template. All told, it took me about 45 minutes.

    • @netdoctor1
      @netdoctor1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. If I wasn't so lazy I'd have ordered some legitimate gasket material to cut my own. As it is, I use cereal box cardboard to make gaskets all the time. I will often double up on critical gaskets just to be safe.

    I'm a small engine shop owner - NEVER straighten a bent mower blade is is dangerous blade's are cheap always replace them - the blades are made of a type of heat treated spring steel which will always retain it's shape, due to the hardness of mower blades when one tries to straighten them micro fractures in the steel can occur which can result in the blade breaking off which is highly dangerous, also bending a blade and straightening it will cause damage to an engine over time - it can cause vibration that will damage the crankshaft and oil seal over time. i can't stress this enough, never straighten a bent mower blade.

      I wanted to elaborate on this issue, Mr. OPG: Firstly, I yield to your experience and knowledge, so I welcome the perspective. Secondly, I don't want to be responsible for someone else's injury or damage to their equipment, so as soon as I can figure out how, I'll highlight your reply. And I remind viewers that sometimes the reason we share our methods with one another is specifically to get feedback from others, so you're doing me a great service by sharing your opinions. A sincere thank you!

      Definitely true. But being a hair fraction off is better than one that looks similar to a nike swoosh.

      Maciej Jan Długosz if you have bent blades on your circular saw blades you must have some jacked up cuts. All my saw blades are straight, the tips have kerfed tips. Not to mention the type of metal the blades are made of and weight difference between a lawn mower blade and a circular saw blade. Get real

      Blades are not cheap. I spent 200$ in 2 months on blades

    Good job, Brian! Although the motor noise drowned out your voice. Very impressive to have accomplished this swap.
