Crossing Your Feet
Your footwork leads to most people’s inaccuracies on targets and they don’t even realize it.
The biggest change I had to make was to stop thinking about the gun and start thinking about what the gun does while moving.
One of the first things I learned to eliminate was crossing my feet.
Once I eliminated that I was able to become a lot more consistent in my accuracy while entering targets.
As well as on the move which is why I see it the most.

Dry Needling Tennis Elbow
มุมมอง 3492 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have been very fortunate to stay relatively injury free in my career. After the 2023 Carry Optics Nationals I had some leg injuries that lasted for almost 6 months and nothing seemed to fix it. On a recommendation from my friend Greg,I decided to try dry needling from Marissa the owner of Redemption PT. After 3 sessions my leg injuries were gone. A year later the infamous Tennis elbow decided...
Everything I Teach

This stage is everything I teach in my class. The reason I teach it is because I train it. To be successful in this sport you have to be consistent. That means you have to create repeatable skills. The only way to do that is understand where the time is lost and how to become successful. 1) Vision leads the way 2) Sights before you can shoot the target 3) Allow the Crash to happen 4) Leave on t...
Episode 39 Area 5 and 6 Recap

Understanding Mistakes
มุมมอง 7342 หลายเดือนก่อน
When you start to understand what causes you to be inaccurate in this sport you can start to plan around it and manage it during a stage. Having a less than ideal grip is never fun but not the reason why you have bad hits. You have bad hits because you shot at the same speed of a perfect grip. Deal With It

I posted a poll yesterday about being threatened with a DQ because I was upset over a terrible call. I received two foot faults at Area 6 which I completely disagreed with. The first one I had two ROs confirm but my feet were behind a barrel on the video so pretty much had to accept it. This stage I had video and knew 100% I wasn’t out of bounds. I even remember delaying my second shot and adju...

2024 Carry Optics Nationals Stage 20
มุมมอง 7523 หลายเดือนก่อน
2024 Carry Optics Nationals Stage 20 I was able to spend a couple practices really focused on long distance before this match. It really showed up on this stage. Somewhere in those practices I discovered a sense of calm that time didn’t exist while shooting. It just became the 2 rules #1 Sights #2 Trigger The time was not a concern because I was responding as fast as I could see the sights. The...

GAS PEDAL I watch a lot of shooters struggle while going faster. The main issue with that is people immediately slow down because of the results on paper because of their new speed. 2024 Carry Optics Nationals Stage 13 One of the best things about the @big_dog_steel is the lock. Once you lock it you’re not getting it out without unlocking it. It’s In The Details

This is the actual results I received from the stage I broke down this week. Where most people fail in the breakdown is they don’t think about the details enough. Episode 38 2024 Carry Optics Nationals
Any updates? It's sometime 2024, 🤣 Really looking forward to these coming out. Going to setup one for larger primers and another for small primers.
Canik rival steel or poly !?
I appreciate the added commentary in the description to put into context what we are seeing in the video. It helps me understand what’s realistic in terms of execution and what to pay attention to.
This is why I sought you out to take a class with! Best decision I ever made. Your class was awesome. You pushed me to places I didn't think I could go and gave me a foundation to train from. How you recognize strength and weakness from a single cold stage for every single student in class and then push each individual in ways that they personally will benefit from without holding back anyone is a tribute to what a great coach you are. Thank you for all your effort. It was such an amazing experience! ♥
@@kimtaylor1142 it was my pleasure. I can’t thank you enough for bringing everyone with you.
Awesome
Thanks for the explanation. I wouldn't have seen that or perhaps noticed that in my own footwork. What camera setup do you use by the way?

what is gun set up you run jp 5 ?
I can relate
And that’s why IDPA is dumb
Tom, where did you finally land on spring weight with your steel frame gun?
@@BryanWilliams-wm4rm I ended up with a Rune Tactical recoil kit and I’m running a 15 lb spring.
They need to develop an EDC version!
@@PlayBetterSlots I highly doubt that will happen
Its a bitch getting old

Ex D1 college DB. I’m not in agreement with how you are explaining this. There are some uprange movement drills that could show proper cross over and how hips must be disconnected from upper body. I’m a mediocre shooter, but would love to train you on some footwork next time you shoot in Belton.
@@glefos3917 so the problem with other sports and movement is there is no gun to think about. There is an accuracy element to movement in this sport that is not involved with football. My hips are disconnected from my body when I do proper movement. I am showing what happens when you cross your feet and try to shoot and how crossing your feet throws your upper body off target.
While moving laterally and attempting to keep your chest square to targets on the back berm, Grauffel appears to limit how far the cross-over foot reaches - and I think he teaches this in his EGCZ courses. His crossing heel lands JUST in front of his toe, such that the two feet almost line up heel to toe. This avoids throwing the hips (and also the chest) in the direction of movement (just like you demonstrated). Do you think this is a valid solution? Do you think working on the twisting flexibility of your torso is worth some attention to give you more grace in the case you make a footwork mistake?
@@user-hm2yt2up7d this is exactly what I teach as well. I just posted a video on my Instagram Story showing 3 different methods of this execution.
Check out the minute mark of this video - they even got it in slow motion. Raine Peltokoski, rifle champion, doing the limited cross-over step. th-cam.com/video/DAf4rbE9HgY/w-d-xo.html
We need more 6:03 from Tom
Tom, I have this in both arms, stopped me from dryfiring last year. Once you started this, were you able to dryfiring and shooting same day or days later?
@@silverAlphashooter The next day you are very sore but can definitely use it the next day but the day after it’s significantly better. I have done 2 sessions and it’s almost complete gone and have been shooting the entire time.
@@TCSA Did she give you the exercises to start doing? Going to set up appt. tomorrow, the pain sure takes the fun out of dryfire
Interesting. Do you prefer more of a shuffle step vs a grapevine when shooting on the move?
What is a grapevine?
@TCSA basically doing the first cross step of bar hop and the unwinding step over and over again, moving laterally
@@veovius definitely not. That is going to move the gun all over the place. Movement affects the gun so if it makes the gun erratic I won’t use it.
Please do a video of shooting an array on the move where you have to move lateral while shooting.
Interesting dialogue but I don’t really understand what you are advocating for us to do instead. Thanks for the content.
So instead of trying to "land" in position, which normally causes me to crash. Start the landing 1 step sooner, start getting the hips more aligned in the 1 step sooner and come in with more of a small shuffle step to square everything up?
Super helpful as always man thank you
You just solved my long time problem. Always wondered why my hits are horrible at certain movement but could not figure out why. Thank you sir!
Ha, this is fortunate timing. I am shooting two matches this weekend that both have this classifier up. I googled for a stage sheet and this was one of my top results. #winning
I think you should go to a real Doctor in Medicine. Maybe make an appointment with a Physiatrist.
@@Gabierama well I hate to tell you that it worked so I guess I did.

@@GunBrosShooting my arm is almost a 100 %. I need 1 more session and it will be back to normal.
I heard about this, but never saw it in practice, interesting. Thanks for sharing!
{ IF } I had that done my butt would cut donut holes in the chair
This is basically bad vs. good Bar Hop but with a long step instead of a cross step. Plus on the last target you're already falling toward your next position as you fire instead of staying planted. You're blending positions on easy targets on the right.
People interested in every day carry for protection can ABSOLUTELY get excellent advice and tips from competitive shooters. Especially how to think and solve problems while shooting. I never really wanted to get into competition, but am considering trying to participate in a competition now. Not to compete against others because they train to do this almost daily. But to challenge myself. Get a baseline on where I’m at now, then put all this advice into my training and practice when I can and see where I’ve progressed and where I need to improve, then try again. Good stuff!
So, what spring do you use now - 6 months later? The current hottness on socials is the 15lb Long Stroke from ZRT. Did you ever go back to it?
@@seengh I’m using a standard guide rod with a 15 lb spring from rune Tactical
Missed a ton of shooting last few years. The last few videos u posted are exactly what I needed to hear to get back to focus. ❤
What’s the “crash”?
Thank you for this! Instantly subscribed!
Nice slow motion. Now I can see the gun dip during the entry crash 👍👍
I'm somewhat new to the channel and trying to catch up on your competition ideology. By "allowing the crash" to happen, I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) to slow down and settle my sights even if it's a fraction of a second, when entering a position?
@@paddypibblet846 pretty darn close. It’s not really slowing down but getting your sights up earlier so when you slow down the sights are already there and then to just have to respond
@@TCSA Ah, perfect. Great. Can't wait to up my game with this. Thank you. Looking forward to taking a class in the near future.
