My freelancing and contracting lifestyle has given me many opportunities to pursue the things I want. Though largely a blessing, sometimes it can be a curse of choice. Sifting through the feelings of isolation and disconnectedness I've set out to pursue a project series surrounding nomadic visions and chasing an ever changing home.

Rusted Hitch Removal | Range Rover Classic - EP 30
มุมมอง 719ปีที่แล้ว
How to remove a stuck hitch. Rust welded hitch removal. I've been cracking my shin on this hitch for as long as I can remember owning the Rover. I would have taken it off sooner had it not been rust welded on the inside. Considering it took me nearly 3 hours to completely remove maybe you'll enjoy watching only 11 minutes of shear torment. 👇 Parts used in this video 3 lb hammer amzn.to/49fGJTa ...

This is BRILLIANT, thanks so much. I have a VERY dilapidated Range Rover and your video has helped me make a long overdue start on fixing up the interior, All the very best, Steve in the UK 🇬🇧
Hey hey! Thanks Steve, and welcome 🙏🏻 I’ve taken some time off but I’m Hoping to get back to finishing these piece sometime this year.
I’ve got more footage still than I know what to do with. I may try and put out another one. Thanks for watching.
Why on earth do you put this on youtube.
@@Coordinator61 haha! Should I put it somewhere else?
Haha, use pb blaster for stuff like that. I use it on the vintage machinery I like to restore usually 50-60 years old. Great video like the other ones. Some questionable stuff here and there, but we are men. 😂😂 Doing some work on my disco 1, until I get a RR.
haha! always questionable stuff in the pursuit of DIY. Thanks for the praise.
@@WorkingAxle I stopped to comment and then finished the video and saw you using the blaster. When are you removing the nut !
@@ReyciclismoMTB hahahha!
Just a "thank you!" for the best documented Range Rover classic build series :)
Wow quite the endorsement here! Thanks so much for the love. Watching some of your vids now. But I don't speak German 😅 Defender looks sick
@@WorkingAxle you earned it! 👊 Great to hear you took a look at our videos too and I´m sorry that they are only in German 😃 (We´re thinking about adding an English audio track in the future) Btw. are you planning to release more TH-cam videos in the future?
@@theridesideoflife definitely planning on it. just need to get around to filming again. Paid jobs are taking the brunt of my time right now. You got something you want to see?
@WorkingAxle I can relate (fellow self employed videographer over here 🙋♂) I'd love to see how your center console came together finally. Btw. where are you based? We´re returning to the states for our next leg from San Francisco to San Diego in September :)
@@theridesideoflife Still haven't finished the center console. Recent job was going back in and cleaning up the wiring and repainting the floor pan. Going to be working on the suspension next I think. I'm Chicago based. Make the trip and I'll buy you guys a beer or 2!
Love this❤
@@cogordoo cheers!
Hello! Love your content so much - inspiring and helpful! Would you consider putting up a parts and materials list for all this? For example in this video, what the fabric is, what the glue is, etc?
@@thomasberan7672 honestly, I feel like thats a good idea. I usually respond to the same questions over and over for items/products.
That said! This was just “headliner fabric” from Joanne’s and “automotive headliner adhesive” from Napa auto parts.
Love the final look! I just bought a 94' RRC... looking to do the same restoration! Question - did you not stain or poly this veneer at all?
Hey Thomas, you are right. No stain or poly. I like the open pore look and feel so I just used linseed oil to seal. If I started to notice it aging I’ll reapply 😌 Thanks for the praise!
Oh man… that last frame photo with the mug 😍 binge watching all this mate. 👌 brilliant
Ahh cheers! Yah I like throwing in those little snaps at the end 😌
I’ve never seen door lamps on a range rover before, are they factory?
@@yes-ps2xq oh really? Didn’t realize others didn’t have them. Mine is a 1993. I believe they are factory, unless someone who had it before me was crafty!
I need to get back to working on mine. I have a corner full of parts to install.
I’ve got that same corner in my garage too hah!
just an adapter to switch to r134? so, does it work, after all? I've read that R134 molecules are much smaller compared to those of the original refrigerant. So, you have to replace all the o-rings (including those on the radiators), or the leaks are unavoidable. Besides, you have to flush the system to remove old oil (which is incompatible with I don't know what)
System was flushed. Replaced the compressor and expansion tank to work with R134. Adaptors came from autozone.
This, the G wagon professional, and the Mk1 Toyota 4runner (1980's) are my favorite trucks ever made. I want to have all of them one day
Thank you very much sir for the help, I really appreciate it . I have ordered the rear tailgate frame.
Sure thing! Hope the job goes smoothly.
Hi there, maybe could you please tell me where i can buy the 1995 land rover country classic, rear tailgate set frame. thank you.
Hi David, I purchased this kit from FamousFour.co.uk Here's the link: www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/partslist?veh=rrc_70_85&sec=body&sub_sec=tailgate
10 out of 10 for effort and overcoming! By the time you have finished you will have great skills!
Hey hey! Cheers Julian. Still some ways to go, but it's proved to be a very enlightening experience thus far.
You are doing a great job, the videos are very good too!
You remind me of the guy doing the mustang restore in LA. Van houten or something is his name
Great film. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Really nicely done.
Cheers Andy!
How much was shipping on this from England. Love Rimmer Bros, but I thought the shipping on an exhaust would be prohibitive.
Pretty sure it was in the ball park if about 300-400 😅
Yeeeeeaaaa...that whole "no AC thing" would have lasted about 1 week in Atlanta 🤣
Hahahah! Yeah I imagine if I was still living down in Georgia I would have been in rough shape. This summer in Chicago was just my final straw 😂
love seeing this crud removed. But do you just not drive while in process?
Yep! This was a 2-week job sometime last year. Already completed! 😎
Thought I had remembered this.@@WorkingAxle
Omg this was amazing! Can’t believe you were able to do that!
Aww thanks mama axle!
Great series you made here, thanks for doing this! Do you know it's normal for Land Rover's of this age to don't have vapor barrier foils in the door frames? Saw then you re-assembled the doors, there wasn't any physical separation between wet and dry spaces there.
Cheers @tfa8 Thanks for the praise on the series! I do believe this year of RRC did come with a vapor barrier on the insides of the door. However, I think someone removed them at some point and never reinstalled.
"PromoSM" 😥
Not sure what you mean
It is super bad letting AC Freon out into the atmosphere like that. Also the is bad information. This is a pressure system and the contents can be very dangerous for someone who watched this and want to just go unhook their system at home. These systems must be evacuated and contained before any service is done.
Very good points! Fortunately my system was evacuated before I swapped out the units. No Freon in the atmosphere 😌
Hi, great videos! Where did you find that compressor? Are they different depending on what year the car is made? Mine is from 1984, automatic 🫣 and the compressor is thrown away by previous owner😢
Hey Henrik, thanks for the praise 🙏🏻 I searched sanden 709 for a compatible part on Amazon. If you still have the ac lines, I’m sure you can fit one based on those connections. Another matter entirely is whether or not your system was ever switched to R-134a. Might be worth looking into a full kit just so you don’t have to squirrel around fitting old parts to new parts.
@@WorkingAxle thank you for the info! I’ll do sone diggin 😊
Ugh look at how shiny it is!!!
Works even better! ❄️
The jazz.
Haha! It’s a vibe. Need to actually listen to this kind of music while I work

Another great video dude! My 95 is coming out of paint and carpet in a week or two. Half of my garage looks like a RRC supermarket with shelves of new/restored parts down to new decals/trim etc. Blue RRC's are the best! Im pulling out a tan carpet set that is in great condition. Let me know if you want it....its yours for the cost of shipping. I dont know if a 95 carpet set will work on your year or not.
Cheers dude! Thanks for the praise. Ive got some carpet in the cockpit already, but I’ve got plans to build out some storage/sleep/work space in the truck bed this coming year

@@WorkingAxle you know it!! Haha
Great video that captures the feeling of freedom we all seek from our Classics. What size and brand lift do you have? Heavy or medium duty springs?
Hey hey! Cheers! I’ve got a 3” old man emu kit. Heavy springs I believe.
Sean, thanks for the video - The SEO works well on your channel too. I'm going to take care of a rear left on my '93 with a Congleton replacement. FWIW, the Congleton handle is not precisely the same as the original. The radii at the corner curves are smaller and the handle face lacks the subtle outward convexity of the original. A small bit of filing can mitigate the difference!
Hey thanks Jim! Good to know. I haven't made any purchases from Congleton just yet. Most of the spare parts have been second hand from my local RRC community. Hope the job goes well!
@@WorkingAxle Took me about an hour, the 93 is easier to deal with. Please know that your videos are as much mood-enhancing inspiration as they are technical guides and help me get in the zone the way you film and author your content. I filed the corners just a tad, happy with the result and it definitely feels more solid than the original...Now onto the Center Console!
Such a compliment Jim! Having a camera around helps me settle into a good meditative space while tinkering, and your words make it all the more worth it. Cheers!@@defender11093
Was searching/ discussing with a friend to clean the engine bay and saw your video in the feed. Looks like this weekends plan on my RRC
Would recommend! Make me want to do more engine work now. Be sure to remove the battery and cover the alternator in plastic before hosing anything.
What would you do if the hinge itself came disconnected from the vehicle? I just experienced that
Oh! Hmmm not sure. 🤔 like the pin came out? Or you’re have trouble screwing it back on?
@@WorkingAxle yes where the top left hinge connects to the roof, I opened the window and it fell out
@@paulschauder3565hmmm. shoot me a photo or two over on Instagram.
The fact that you can turn the removal of an old rusted hitch into an epic saga that has me glued to the screen is damn impressive. Nice work, as usual.
Haha! I was 🤏🏻 this close to giving up when it shifted. Then it was all sauce behind the hammer. How're things with your RRC's Andrew?!?!
@@WorkingAxle things are good. It’s coming along. More videos coming soon
11 minutes and no exhaust sound?
Ahh yeah, a suppose a bit of a let down 😂😅
Unfortunately I have known that pain. Been there, done that. I broke it loose by driving it into the hitch and then working it back out. Good work!
Yeah I have a good feeling this will be the last time I will ever do this.
Rust welding is real.
Pretty sure this thing has been in there for a decade atleast

Hahahha my poor poor neighbors 😅
Made me tired watching. That looked awful.
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard myself audibly pant during a job 😂 just glad it’s over.
First like, top fan 🎉
Haha! Number 1 fan! 😂
Looks great. Take care of that orange oil filler cap......they are no longer available and you will be lucky to find a used one in good condition. I had to get one shipped from Latvia, over payed, waited for ever but it arrived in like new condition. Oh, I also bought a pack of micro wire wheels for my Dremel tool, they do wonders on rusty bolt heads.....look new after. Mine is still in the body shop getting all new paint (Oslo Blue), then interior shop to get a new Navy blue carpet kit.....then done! Yea right. Great to see your girl getting some more attention.
No way! I didn't know these caps were that rare. Glad I gave it some love. It's got a slight crack on the left there, but maybe I could patch that somehow just to make sure it doesn't deteriorate anymore. Hope the paint job turns out like you hope! Oslo blue is such a distinct color. Good choice!
Far from a perfect detail, but this should give me a better base for routine cleanings.
