Med Mentors has been created to help connect undergraduate students with medical students to help mentor them on their journey to medicine in Australia. We hope to share tips and advice about the GAMSAT, medical school interview, medical school application process, as well experiences from medical students!
**Disclosure: Med Mentors is a proudly unaffiliated non-for-profit organisation run by volunteer doctors and medical students - any GAMSAT prep companies mentioned in this video are volunteer students personal experiences and opinions, which we value, but understand these courses are not ideal for everyone, or a garnered way into medical school. Med Mentors does not believe that students require to pay for expensive GAMSAT or interview prep courses to be successfully admitted into medical school in Australia**

    Is there anyone who can answer my question? I am the father of a student who has recently been offered Chancellor's Scholarship (the University of Melbourne) As a Chancellor's Scholarship recipient, if my daughter is admitted to Biomedicine/Dental Surgery, later upon completion of the bachelor's degree, meets other requirements (70 WAM, MMI performance), can she change(choose) the master's course to the Doctor of Medicine other than Doctor of Dental Surgery without having to sit GAMSAT?

    Its really cool to hear a story that sounds like sounds a bit like mine. I’m in my 3rd year of undergrad and just found out thats what i wanna do. My grades aren’t the best (as I see other MD applicants having) so I’m really worried about not getting into a Canadian MD. The doubting yourself part of the video is very true for me and its cool to see there is others ways to get there. Thank you for the video

    hey guys! I love these videos, super helpful! I really like the creativity in each video and the ideas are so insightful. I'd like to add a comment: I think it would be good to expand beyond physical contributions and talk a little about mental contributions. For instance being overweight/obese can be tied to personal appearance insecurities, there could be an emotinoal attachement to food, and in general breaking the habits which have contributed to weight gain are psychologically difficult to overcome. So despite the accessibility to bike lanes etc, people may still choose not to participate because of the physical and psychological toll of an active change. So if I was to answer this, I'd mention the emotional toll that being overwight carries and that we could address this in a social way. Lets take an example of community sport as part of an overall health awareness incentive. In this people can meet like-minded individuals (similar health struggles or just love of sport) and also develop a positive social bonding experience whilst being active. Especially in rural towns where the culture is quite communal to begin with. Alongside coaching education, It would also encourage personal ownership of one's health. For instance, an individual may feel more inclined to make healthier decisions to perform better in the sports activity both for themselves and for the team.

    If you want to specialize or return back to Canada and work in a desirable location I highly recommend against going abroad to study especially Australia. Stick to Canada if not accepted then look at US MD and US DO

    • @MedMentors
      @MedMentors 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Maligaspe, thanks for the comment! This isn't really our field of expertise unfortunately. We are focused more on premeds and helping them be successful in their medical school journey. As more of our mentors graduate and become doctors, helping facilitate steps such as AMC registration etc might enter our field of knowledge, unfortunately this isn't something we have experience in as of yet! Wishing you all the best in your adventures with the AMC! Good luck!
