As a Pole I estimate that 10% of Poles can be openly aggressive to dark skinned people. Another 20% may hold some racial prejudice but they would not show that openly due to be perceived socially correct. 20-30% of Poles are indifferent about the race however they may prefer to meet Christians than Muslims. The last 30% may be racially biased in positive terms. A lot of Poles want to mix with dark skinned people, they just like ppl from Africa for their more open more sincere attitude

There is absolutely no racism in the poem. Bambo is presented as a studious and joyful boy, sort of proud of his heritage -he doesn't want his skin to get white, who shares similar qualities as most of the children his age in Europe eg. loves to fool around, climb trees, doesn't like to drink milk (I hated milk as well at that age). At the end the author expresses the sentiment that it would be great to have a cheerful boy like Bambo as a classmate. On the other hand, I believe that in today's setting calling a black person Bambo is definitely inappropriate.
