I feel the same about SQ. not really a fan of most of her music but I can see some of it growing on me. I like Pink Bubblegum and that one is on my playlist. Haven’t listened to the new album yet. Will eventually since I probably will see her with Babymetal coming this November. But when I first started looking into her I did deeply admire what she was about and trying to do. I really enjoyed her interview with Nik Nocturnal.

My issue with treating music like a religion is that it ignores what music is: art. You don't put rules on art, as long as you aren't breaking laws. Metal is one of the only genres where you still got bands from 30 years ago still making music, even sticking to their core sound and keeping an audience. Nobody can force change on any genre of music, only the fans accepting or rejecting the new or old.

  • @brucenatelee

Even though she calls it Bimbocore, I do think it leans into nu metal with rapping and electronics put together (note: rap metal isn't the same as nu metal, but often related; kinda like metalcore vs crossover, or deathgrind vs goregrind). If you like "making metal fun," then Scene Queen may fit. I think a similar band would also be Sumo Cyco, but without rapping.

The lyrics on 18+ have barely to do with the metal scene, culture, or fanbase. It's mostly the warped tour bands/scene culture about so many members in those bands were accused of having relation with minors in the late 2000s-2010s. To me that's just a heavier & scene version of 29 by Demi Lovato (with the lyrics talk about similar thing).

Scene Queen isn't for me and that's fine. Surely if a band or artist brings in new fans or helps expand horizons that's a good thing? This is a really positive video and I had to give your channel a sub because of it

Angela Gossow never wore a skirt on stage or sang about sex and she broke more stereotypes in music, not just metal, than Her Highness Scene Queen could dream of. Oh, she's bisexual? Otep Shamaya is a lesbian and she didn't need to write about how she loves p-word; she wrote decent heartbreak songs like Ghostflowers. She sings about men being predators? The first metal song that spoke about sexual abuse was from Korn in 1994, and it's a about a female predator. Scene Queen is an industry plant who worships mainstream pop and rap. She attempts (but fails) to be ironic but doesn't realize that irony is all lost on her, because heavy music never needed pop or rap sensibilities, and heavy music is the genre of music where prominent female artists didn't need to act slutty or suggestive to be admired (you had to be good at what you're doing first), whereas in pop and rap, the genres she's trying hard to ride coattails of, that's the name of the game. This girl lashed on to a style of music where women are celebrated for their talent and decided to smear it all in pink guano. This is why we gategeek metal. So that іdiots won't come in here and start redecorating everything because it doesn't fit into their safespace.

The angry diatribe that the dude quotes in this as indictment of the gatekeeping in the scene received TWO LIKES in a matter of EIGHTEEN WEEKS. Dude went out of his way to find the most irrelevant possible person to reference. Can we please make a new rule where you can't use completely ignored and completely irrelevant content as examples of audience opinion? It would be a different story if this was a well-liked, commonly expressed opinion, but citing a comment with TWO LIKES over EIGHTEEN WEEKS is about as legitimate as citing the graffiti on a bathroom stall edit: for the record, I am a FAN of Scene Queen, so this isn't some angry response comment. I'm just calling out bad form where it exists.

I think that bolder genre hybrids like these are the healthiest, most exciting and best thing that have happened to the metal scene in a long, looong time. Metal with its various sub-genres used to be my main go-to music for most of my life, but its relative predictability and the widespread musically conservative mindset within the community pushed me away to explore other genres. And pop, much to my surprise at the time, has offered me some of the most mind-bending, deep, progressive, and experimental listening experiences I've ever had. It's a common misconception that pop music must be the antithesis of alternative music. It can be just as aggressive and noisy as metal, it can be just as challenging to get into for casual radio listeners and metalheads alike. The goal of pop music isn't always to be easily digestible, despite etymologically stemming from the term "popular". Look at artists like Björk, Caroline Polachek, Dorian Electra, Charli XCX, Jockstrap or Superorganism and pay attention to the intricacies of their music making. You might not find it all enjoyable at first, but it's hard to deny its artistic value in breaking new ground, if you're openminded enough to accept that it will confront you with musical and lyrical themes you haven't appreciated (yet). Musical preference is a matter of choice and challenging yourself with sufficient confrontation, I think. Now, there's NOTHING wrong with sticking with more traditional metal, but dang, does it feel great to enjoy whatever you can! Genre-bending artists like Poppy, Igorrr, öOoOoOoOoOo or Death Grips haven't taken away from my pleasure in listening metal- they've reawakened and added to it. And to answer the question if it all has gone too far, I can only say, keep going further. Its existence doesn't erase the music you already like. It only creates a new flavor that people can enjoy. If that's a problem for someone, that's on them. :3

      >thinks metal has become predictable >thinks the solution is to put breakdowns on what could've been a Katty Perry song Either you listened only to American mainstream metal and don't know about European metal scene, or you don't listen to metal at all. SepticFlesh, that's how you reinvent metal and make it fresh without losing any of the sincerity and purity of it. Sorry, pop music, unless it's some good pop, like Phil Collins or Oingo Boingo, shouldn't be fused with metal if your intent is to be taken seriously.

@@antona.8659 Most of what I've heard was predictable in terms of genre limitations/experimentation for the sake of purity. Metal has its hybrid forms, but I rarely feel the same sense of novelty that I got from Poppy's "I Disagree" pop/metal album. Or anything in Igorrr's discography, to name an example that does NOT incorporate pop esthetics. I love it, because it's a risky move. It's a stark musical contrast, instead of an accentuation that plays into the obvious strengths that metal has (such as adding an orchestra or folky instruments to make it sound more epic.) And sure, let's talk about sincerity! If you want to be true to your nature, you'll need to embrace your vulnerable, corny, goofy, curious, playful and "guilty pleasure" side too, because you're a complex being and not everything that defines you is metal. Now, if you enjoy metal and pop in equal parts, wouldn't a pop/metal hybrid be the most sincere and self-expressive music you could possibly make?

    • @antona.8659
      @antona.8659 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@Benki-w8b like I said, putting breakdowns over the most sanitized, cliched crap that's taken from the most generic and self-repetitive music genres of today's music, rap and pop, is the opposite of avoiding predictability.

This is so very unrelated to the topic of this video, but I notice a trend in the comments here. We have a lot to say, and we articulate ourselves very well. There are so many times in this current world with media consumption where everything needs to be said in a few words. Anything over a couple of words, reaction comments are "U rly think Im gona read this shhii." It really does disappoint me. And then you have people "liking" said comment. They can't be bothered to read any more than a few words, either. How is this acceptable? Thank you my metal brothers and sisters for reminding me that not everyone in this world has a very short attention span, they are willing to actively engage in a proper conversation, and not all is lost. Again, a very unrelated comment to this video, but thank you all for giving me some kind of hope that not everyone has given up with being able to actually talk/type/spell/read.

Ever heard of Otep? She's gay, was sexually abused as a child (which she referenced in many songs), but made actual earnest heavy (at some points extreme) music instead of trying to be Britney Spears singing over downtunned guitars. The problem with mainstream pop music is that it's sanitized crap lacking in sincerity. Metal always stood against that.

These bands like bmth or elevtric callboy do attract a different crowd to the metal festivals though. More fratboys ironically and the like. (But so did numetal back in the day and those folks were a lot worse) Gatekeeping is bad Id agree but we dont need to stand for everything. Basically we need standards for behavior is what I am saying.

@@VonFreklstein Nu metal sucked big time. Each genre of music has to have boundaries, otherwise no genres would exist.

5:55-6:15--Yes, a lesson which can be generalised to many situations and everyone should have learned in kindergarten but which now seems completely lost on so many people....Kind of like their maturation stopped at...kindergarten age.

a good video!!! i may not like the title that feels like rage bait, (even though it was answered at the end), but I am glad to hear from people who like scene queen!! I also dislike MILF, I don't like country at all, but 18+ and pink cocaine are my favourite songs so far by her, and it speaks a lot to the style and stuff she's contributing to. Someone also mentioned Ennaria, I love her too. CORPSE as well. I like the artists that put a twist on their music, instead of necessarily one genre. I don't think I'll ever like completely metal music. But it's nice to enjoy sometimes. And I think it's nice. Does that make me a true metal-head, no, but like, it makes me able to diversify my taste, and I feel like that's a good thing.

Most all metal is good, though I admit I was never big on the nu metal thing back in the day but I'm not going to disparage it or any of the artists. Any metal is better than today's country music. And yet, back in the 80s some of the metal bands like Warrant and Roxx Gang out of Florida would incorporate some banjo and southern rock vibes in some of their songs. Heck, I've heard some southern rock bands that were as heavy as many of the metal acts around. It's all good. "To bring good where there once was evil, to bring love where there once was hate, to bring wisdom where there once was ignorance; this is the power of White Witch." Rock on!
