Rule Britannia Sarah Walker 1985 Proms
A most memorable performance of Rule Britannia in 1985 with Sarah Walker and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by the late Vernon Handley. Sarah has uploaded this on her TH-cam Channel but by her own admission it suffered poor sound so I hope she doesn't mind me duplicating it

As times goes by?
I was there and I am sure Sarah sounded stronger in the hall than the balance in this recording. Tod split the first and second violins so they face each other to better balance the sound. Tod's mentor Sir Adrian Boult also used this layout.
Hurrah for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever! The gem of the land and the sea, The banner of the right! Let tyrants remember the day! When our fathers with mighty endeavor! Proclaimed as they marched to the fray, That by their might and by their right, It waves forever!
Wonderful performer. She lived in Catford and we both used the same landscaper. Met her a few times. Lovely lady.

It is a beautiful dress, indeed❤
What exactly are they singing at the end? I've heard a couple sets of lyrics for it (though very, very rarely), but neither really match what I'm hearing
Magnificent singing from Sarah Walker. Exactly how it should go!
02:05. ROCK IT, FLUTISTS!!! 💪🏿💪🏻💪🏾💪🏼💪🏽
This is the most raucous performance of the Stars and Stripes Forever that I have ever seen!!! 😍🥰🤩
Hope you've seen Bernstein conducting the NY Philharmonic since then. Probably even the same notation. ;)
John Philips Sousa, your father is born in Seville, Spain.
Edward Elgar would be proud! A retired Catholic priest in Canada.
I'm from Boston and the Boston Pops has copyright on this one !!!! And there was only one conductor that could lead this, Arthur Fielder. Although, the Proms certainly did a good job with this.....

"The Stars an Stripes Forever" With a bunch of Union Jack's in the background...oh, the irony! 😁
The cross and cross forever🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I don’t leave you Tatami alone but please don’t hesitate to leave your warriors and well-being on weapons shots😓. I am in hard ways for you Afghanistan 🇦🇫 with your attitude only now and practices 🌎, please.
3:25 Words!
What are they singing though?

VIVA TRUMP VIVA USA!!
American here just to say, this is the most patriotic and beautiful song, with “Horst Wessel Lied” and the Soviet anthem of the USSR.
Lovely to see our young lads pretending to be Yanks.
Awesome! This amazing song should be our National Anthem.
Sumptuous Sarah Walker and the much missed Vernon ( Tod) Handley.
Wow, they did us proud...
Exceedingly difficult to march to, but I like it! Nice hornpipe too!
No Kidding! Id hate to try to march a couple of miles to this tempo! Couple of hundred yards would do me in!
THAT'S LOVE COUNTRY
Janet Ellis , from Blue Peter, was in the choir!
She doesn’t really get going, the dress isn’t a stand in for exceptional bravura
The best performance of Rule Britannia

Happy Brexit everyone!
One year before the swedish prime minister, Olof Palme was shot and killed after he went to cinema with his wife and rejected having bodyguards with him for once. :(
Bunch of pompous twats.
It is so strange to see that song played in the midst of a sea of Union Jacks.
Ikr, and then there's that *one* betsy ross in the midst of all of them
Looks good ,but in reality the British establishment stink
Did the audience actually hear what the chorus sang at the end? John Phillip Sousa wrote lyrics to the verses and the chorus. The chorus that was present with the orchestra actually sang at the end, making me wonder if they really understood what Sousa was saying.
What was he saying? I searched all over and couldn’t find anything by the legitimate lyrics. By the way, the chorus wasn’t singing anything.
Sousa is the BEST at marches
Superb...!!!
Trombone section always gets plenty of leg room ...haha
catchy tune
