Me and her tbh

This is my sister’s and my song. For years we would drive from Fresno, California to Salinas to visit our mom, and she would be in the passenger seat. We’d sing and laugh and talk, but we would love to sing. Ever since we were children we would sing together. And we loved listening to all different types of music but mostly classic rock and alternative, and Death Cab was one of the bands we loved. The part where they mention the smell of evergreen, for us it was eucalyptus. There was this patch of eucalyptus trees lining the highway on either side, just after or before you got to Hollister, and we would roll the windows down and just let the smell envelop us, as it hung on the air. It was one of our favorite parts of the trip. This song became our song, and when we went to see Death Cab in 2012 she had gone to get some drinks when it started to play. I ran out to find her and we listened to it, muffled by the doors to the arena, though we could still hear it perfectly. We stood there in line with our arms around each other’s shoulders, heads together. Just loving each other as sisters and best friends do. She is my older sister. She passed away on Christmas Eve of this last year (2022) at the age of 44. Suddenly, unexpectedly. I haven’t been able to listen to this song since. But it brings the memories flooding back now. Precious memories that though they are terribly painful, they are a joy to relive and for a bit she is alive for me again. I love this song. Please don’t forget that my sister Angela Marie Wright lived. She just got her masters in counseling and was helping so many people. God bless you 💚

I'm having the first good year since the pandemic and I'm finally able to appreciate it. I've made amazing friends this year despite worrying it was too late. I've reconnected with old friends. I'm making steps towards self acceptance. It's not perfect, I'm still struggling in some regards. But for the first time in a long while, I'm okay with that. I'm not alone anymore, I've learned more about myself. I can deal with these challenges.

It took me days to find this song but totally worth it.

You can't help but laugh at the fools who would call Jimmy E. World a one hit wonder. They have so many gems such as this one. You almost have to feel sorry for them more than anything else. Bleed American does not have a skippable track and it is timeless.

Listening to Spotify Cold Case channels and this played. I've heard this song but it was always a background song that you hear but don't play much attention too. But I'm older now and really listened to it. This is a wonderful blessing of people to hear and accepted it.

jack’s songs - 1/3: hi jack. today marks a year since you died (technically yesterday since it’s past midnight i guess but same difference). anyway i know elliott smith was your favourite and that this song meant a lot to you, so i figured i should make it the first one. idk, i don’t love this song, but it’s your music and it’s not about me so whatever. i’ve actually had this one in my drafts since last summer i think, i was gonna post it and send it to you before you knew i had this channel, but obviously that didn’t happen and i didn’t finish the video until now. sorry.

This song makes me think about the ending of a long series with a lot of drama, tragedy and death. Despite everything, the characters survived and are now looking forward to their lives after the happy ending. All their development and character arcs are done and now they can feel content that, despite whatever hardships await, at least the villain is defeated and they can feel content with that. Yes, they lost friends, and some characters died that never got their happy endings, but at least the characters that survived can live happily ever after. To enjoy the first day in a long time is truly a happy and relaxing day for them. Possibly attending some kind of celebration to celebrate the end of the war or whatever went on during the plot. That's just my take on this song and why I love it.

I'm not sure if this song is literally about a war, maybe it is. But all I can think is that liminal feeling after enduring for so long. Your first night after escaping your abuser, having your own space after homelessness, etc. It's oddly sad in a way. You sit there alone, in quiet, not even believing where you are, that you made it, you're alive. You're disconnected from the world around you. You spent so much time fighting so hard that you never paused to think about what's next, and you're left with just... Existence. This is the world. The song invokes that feeling in me, then reminds me there's life to live, love to have, joy in the little things, and you continue on. You'll never look at life and society the same way again. It's lonely, free, terrifying, beautiful, empty, triumphant. The end, the way the trumpets and all the sound comes together in almost cacophony. The notes never quite seem to emotionally resolve, and even through the triumph there's some darker sounding tones mixed in. It doesn't seem to really have a clear end, because there aren't happy endings, and you're still struggling, and you'll still struggle. But that's okay. You're free. The War is Over.
