DELA ROSA, AIRA R. 12 HUMSS 4 FORESHADOWING - " hint " * Is at type of literary device where an author makes a hint towards something that will happen later in the story EXAMPLE: "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee "When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow... When enough years had gone by to enable us to look back on them, we sometimes discussed the events leading to his accident." SIMILE - uses the words " like " or " as " to compare two dissimilar objects. EXAMPLE: The corridor was as dark as night FLASHBACK - A literary device used by an author to reflect the past events of the characters lives. Sometimes called an ANALEPSIS. EXAMPLE: Cheria stopped in her tracks aware of something chasing her; she had to get away. She returned to the current day from her memories.

Alcantara, Ace Harold Ortega. 12 HUMSS-4 Based on my understanding about flashback, metaphor, and foreshadowing is the FLASHBACK - Flashback is to create or used to have a backstory or background of the character in the story. FORESHADOWING - is used to keep the reader interested and to keep guessing what will happen next in the story line, foreshadowing also is a hint to the reader to make them realize or understand/guess what will happen in the next episode/chapter in the storyline. METAPHOR - Methapor is a comparison to the two things in the story. for example: He is like a machine. therefore, he is comparing him to the machine because of his superhuman stamina and strength that can destroy anything in his way.

Samantha Nicole P. Gicale 12 Humss-4 Flashback: -To provide background information, reveal a character's past, or create a sense of mystery and suspense. It allows the reader to understand the present situation better by giving them context from the past. - Example: In "The Great Gatsby," Nick Carraway's narration often uses flashbacks to tell the story of Gatsby's past and his relationship with Daisy Buchanan. Simile: -To create a vivid image or comparison, making the writing more engaging and memorable. It helps the reader understand something unfamiliar by relating it to something familiar. - Example: "Her eyes sparkled like diamonds" - This simile compares the woman's eyes to diamonds, suggesting brightness and brilliance. Foreshadowing - To create suspense and anticipation, hinting at future events or outcomes. It can also make the reader more invested in the story and eager to see how things unfold. - Example: In Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," the opening line "From forth the fatal loins of these two foes" foreshadows the tragic outcome of the play.

Euphemisms are often used to soften the impact of a statement or to make it more socially acceptable. FORESHADOWING -Is a literary device used to give an advance hint or indication of what is to come later in a story. It creates suspense, prepares the reader for future events, and helps build anticipation for upcoming plot twists or outcomes. Foreshadowing can be achieved through dialogue, events, imagery, or symbolism. For example, in a mystery novel, a seemingly insignificant detail, like a character mentioning the bad weather, might foreshadow a stormy night where a crucial event occurs. Similarly, in a story, if a character finds a broken mirror, it might foreshadow bad luck or trouble ahead. SIMILE -Is a figure of speech that compares two different things using the words "like" or "as." It is used to create vivid imagery and help the reader understand or visualize a concept by relating it to something familiar. Similes help make descriptions more expressive and engaging by highlighting similarities between two distinct things.

📍Euphemism A euphemism is a mild or indirect word or phrase used to replace a more harsh or unpleasant one. It's like using a gentler word to talk about something that might be considered rude or offensive. • Example: Instead of saying "He died," you might say "He passed away." 📍Foreshadowing Foreshadowing is a literary device where the author hints at events that will happen later in the story. It's like dropping little clues to keep readers guessing and intrigued. • Example: In a horror movie, the character might see a creepy doll in a shop window. This could foreshadow that the doll will play a significant role in the story, perhaps as a source of danger or evil. 📍Simile A simile is a figure of speech that directly compares two things using the words "like" or "as." It creates a vivid image in the reader's mind by drawing a connection between seemingly unrelated things. • Example: "Her eyes were like sparkling emeralds." 📍The Godfather & Its Epigraph The epigraph you provided from "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo, "Behind every great fortune there is a crime," is a powerful statement that sets the tone for the story. It suggests that wealth and power often come at a price, and that corruption and illegal activities might be involved. The Godfather itself is a true reflection of this epigraph. The story explores the rise and fall of the Corleone family, a powerful Mafia clan whose wealth and influence are built on a foundation of violence, intimidation, and illegal activities.
