Connection’s importance in achieving wellness and a better life. I never looked at wellness coaches in this light. It adds real meaning to the “right” coach and committing to a life treatment plan. “What am I worth?” Excellent podcast.

The problem with wellness programs is that they fail to consider the needs of the individual and often subscribe to ideologized routines that do not meet the economic and realistic needs of the working class, who need them the most. Most wellness programs focus on pampering routines that the average person can not afford or sustain with their overwhelming schedules.

As much as I love the field of coaching, the truth is that many do not have the mental health training required to recognize some of the psychological limitations of their clientele. Many, "not all folks," become coaches because, educationally, the field requires less training and time than it takes to become a psychologist or social worker. And as a result, they miss out on vital therapeutic training necessary for working with people. There are too many folks who have mental health barriers that prevent them from having the skill set to maintain routines and adhere to recommendations made by coaches. Again, I love the idea of coaches, but they do lack certain skills.
