I'm baffled how even the selling agent hasn't vacuumed up the standing water in the hull, organized the interior, folded the sails and wiped down the mold at least. Obviously the seller, nor the agent have an invested effort is trying to sell it. Stick to your guns on the $5k offer which is generous.
Great info. Thank you
Most C&C most of the drive is from the head-sail. We do that a lot on the C&C 38 and C&C24
That is most likely in the United States. In Australia, we adore it! 🥰 We consider the club to be a cheap vacation home because it has excellent possibilities and a terrific club! We can't find a cheap vacation house that costs $300,000 Aud, for instance, but it's great to be a club member and invest that $300,000 once off with an annual fee under $9,000, and you have a lot of options for vacationing all over the world! The lowest cost to acquire a vacation property is $1.2 million, and city taxes are $11,000 per year-and it doesn't include labour, gas, electricity, or improvements! However, it is my perception of the club.
Anxious to see your new main. I had a great quote for my 30 mkII but got cold feet.
I said I wouldn’t do any more sailing vids until spring but I’ll definitely do one in February to show off the new main when it comes! Thanks for watching!
Love it! Always enjoy sketchy projects around the club
Hey thanks so much!
Summer will be here soon enough and this will be a distant memory
Awesome project. I bought a 1985 35 mk3 back in july. Great boat to single sail and very fast on club racing.
For offshore a wind and is great and a good addition to electronic autopilot. My boat will not work with a wind vane so important to have second way of self-steering, or at least spares for the autopilot that can be replaced at sea.
Subscribed and congrats on the boat! It's shocking the neglect that she has endured! I'm sure that you'll resurrect her to her former glory!
@@andrew8025 amazing. Thanks so much. I hope to do her justice
Nice video, Just came across your channel. I sail a C&C 27 out of Nova Scotia, cool to see the lakes.
Thanks so much.
I used the same one in Oakville for three seasons. It will chafe in your current set up. I used a frame similar in pitch to your other boat and used lots of noodles to prevent wear and tear. I shrink rapped this year. I still have many noodles left over if you need. Let me know. I’m in Mississauga.
What a coincidence seeing your vid this morning. I am covering my 21 foot Sirius today. Don’t think I will work on it under the tarp, my nerves would not take the noise. I am glad you showed taking the winch apart as I may need to do mine soon. Cheers BB
I just tarped my C&C 25 using a 2X4 ‘spine’ and 3/4” PVC water pipe ‘ribs’ tied to the rail. The spine is supported by wooden stanchions. Good luck this winter!
You need better frame for this tarp cover, at list similar to your old boat.
I've been using ropes to create the ribs: it was a good opportunity for me and my kids to practice various types of knots! As long as the tarp is fairly straight (it doesn't gather a bunch of water and then ice) it should last at least 2-3 years. And you can probably find cheaper tarp on sale at Princess Auto (or similar stores).
Water lubricates stuffing box packing... your not sinking boat, just over lubricating packing 😂😂. Better than tooooo tight and burning out or wearing groove in shaft. Just replaced mine, previous owner had tooooo tight.
100%! That's exactly why I let it leak.
We could have made that extraction a lot less sketch with the use of the Hydro Truck...Just sayin! Very Red/Green macgyvering!
Pierre, where were you in our hour of need!? lol. I agree. The hydro truck would have made life easier/safer! (Maybe)
Moving the cradle was great! Been there, done that, in a Uhaul. Luckily my new club had a forklift!
Need to be very careful with power washers and sailboats. First -it jets water under just about anything and creates channels for more water to intrude into the deck and huyll or into the interior, leading to serious problems. ou should really remove and rebed everything on your boat anyways considering it has not likely been done in many years or ever. Hopefully you didn't do that. Second, it is abrasive and removes any wax or protectants on the surface/gel coat. You should do a very thorough deep wax of all the surfaces that you washed soon or it will oxidize very quickly and leave it looking horrible. I can already see it has taken on a chalky appearance. The sooner you can wax, the better. Most people create more problems than they fix with powerwashers on sailboats for these reasons. For the sails, if you can't replace, get some dacron and sewing machine and patch up those holes or they will enlarge and make the sails unusable and unfixable. I've been there! Hope this helps! Boat looks better though and I wish you luck!
I like the idea for the T-shirt. I need one. I'm glad you are going to get that boat back into shape. It deserves it. Excellent craft. (I can't believe they never properly stored the sails etc, unless there was a crisis in the family or something.)
Congratulations I wish I could have met you
Winch handles go in that compartment while hoisting the spin halyard near the mast.
Thanks! We used it for sail ties too. 🤷♂️
Your keel and rudder look great underwater.......the rest of the hull bottom......not so much.......needs some serious cleaning!
Did you price the wine bottles? That’s $.2 towards he boat
W vid
Maybe run the motor for more time. And check the prop seal.
So.. not sure ow ya came onto the feed but... hubby and I have purchased a new to us boat, moved to N.S, adn have our first boat on the hard in northern Ont-- not officially up for sale (no ads),. Hubby rebuilt motor, rudder is new, and she's been primarily sailed in fresh waters with a brief stint in the bahamas by the prev owner. It's a 1986 Catalina, 34.... will need rigging and sails as this was not something we got around to- cushions and canvas are great, too.. just sayin'!
That kind of courage deserves a subscribe and like...I'm in.
Having refurbished a C&C 35-3 and owned one for 16 years (now in my past), I have to say your video was a most uniformed and amateur evaluation of the boat. You may have bought it without a proper survey being done, but if you want to insure it, you will have to have one and it may have been of more value to have it done up beforehand .
Yeah he fucked up on that one
I'm looking at a MKII to avoid that cored hull.
That my marina
Congrats should take down the for sale sign
These are great boats! Congrats on the purchase. We use the shallow deck locker forward the traveler for sail ties. Not sure the real purpose for it.
I'm hooked and ready for the next adventure , good luck from the uk
That will be interesting to follow... Bonne chance!
congrats! how much did you pay for her?
The math calculation was appreciated.
Not just the work, Im in Trenton Ont canada and how much would it cost for a land tug lol add that to the cost
Great video@! Cheers from Oakville
I've got a steel Van De Stadt 34' 8 metric tons, I only single hand and do ocean passage making around the south african coast, prepping the boat for a solo Atlantic crossing next year, this is my list 1 windvane, I have a hydrovane VXA2D auxiliary rudder (I have a scanmar pelagic tiller pilot with remote control but I rarely if ever use it. 2 safe and well protected cockpit, hard dodger on my boat. 3 furling headsail and code0 4 all lines led to cockpit, I have 11 total no. clutches on my two cabin top self trailers, reefs1 to 3, outhaul, topping lift, vang, 5 halyards, main sheet 5 good strong reliable diesel, I've got a 33HP 4 cylinder Vetus 6 strong windlass, with cockpit controls and my trusty rocna 27kg anchor 8 AIS class B transponder and radar, makes night watches a lot easier on passage.
With all the lines led aft, I did not notice how you reef the main?
2:32 This is why I went from 38 to 28 feet
Hey what's that amazing song playing when you were dealing with Spinnaker? from 0:38 to 0:40 ? thanks
Your list is good for small boats . I have a catalina 25 and agree with your list . But I also have a off shore ketch 41 feet. And that has a different set of must haves. Autopilot is definitely number 1 Good ground tackle is number 2 Communication devices 3 Davits for tender. Is 4 Enough fuel to cross your doldrums. 5 Options for heavy weather 6 Comfortable Living space 7 Knowledge to be able to repair and replace 8 Fresh water Capacity or replenishment. 9 Backup navigational options access to information 10
3:15 before you got to the point.
Yup sailboat racing is one of the most boring things to watch. There are however some videos of Match racing with all the video overlays and they are kinda exciting. Like with anything, you’ve got to like the sport in the first place.
At 5:08 in the video, is that a c&c 37/40 with the multi colored bootstripe on the cradle to your starboard side?
He wishes! That sir is an Aloha 28
@@TheAwakeford lol, right on. Saw a 37/40 f/s up that way with a similar stripe. Didnt look like a c&c rudder but wasnt sure..
Yea, music no
Got a point? Get to it.
I too, plan on travel next year the Erie canal and sail down the Hudson around Manhattan and into Long Island sound. I live near Syracuse NY. My destination is Clinton CT. It would be fun to travel with another boat. If interested, let me know.
First things first, 1) sell my current boat; 2)buy my next boat; 3) spend all my $ and time fixing said new boat. But buddy boating is always a good idea, particularly in unfamiliar waters. good luck!
15 years single handing, heres my list; #1 wind vane steering #2 chart plotter at helm and at the nav station. #3 Jack lines and PFD/harness. #4 Dink that can be stowed on deck without help #5 Roller furled yankee and hanked on staysail. #6 Spray Dodger #7 long boat hook #8 Heavy anchor and rode. #9 AIS #10 RADAR #11 VHF radio.
