You don't need artistic talent! Learn to draw portraits in minutes
Watch as I draw portraits in minutes two faces quickly the first one is speeded up and the second is shot in regular time. I have used a simple system of drawing an oval marking it in half and then half that again and then half that again to create the three places for eyes nose and mouth .

This video was just so comforting to watch....everything abt it from the way u showed each card, the way u described each one....got me yearning to pick my brushes up like nothing else🫂
Yay ! Glad to hear it . Have fun …thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous
Thank you
where did the colour box come from please
Hi there I will be putting up a video later today with the link .
Why not just take the paper off the pad before you paint...that way if there's a mistake it will be before you paint.
Good point! I’ll definitely consider that next time. Gotta love those “oops” moments, right? Only removing the paper from a block defeats the purpose of keeping the paper nice and flat during washes , the problem I had was the block was over 20 years old,the glue gets weird .
I have to ask you where you got the wrist cuff you’re wearing… I’m trying to stop video during this to see if I can make one. It’s gorgeous
Hi, thanks for commenting. I have to giggle. I’ve had other people ask me the same question I have a wrist problem and underneath that wrap is my magnetic wrist band which I cover with a piece of fabric that I cut off the bottom of a pair of yoga pants.
5:38 copying's ok... Yes when you look through art museums there's very little originality on display until the late 19th century when artists were suddenly in competition with the camera. Most art was commissioned pieces, yes of course they wanted a particular look but the artist's "vision" was very much in 2nd place (unlike nowadays!) PS re alcohol inks they look really interesting but I heard they're not lightfast, i don't know if that's true. I use a lot of acrylic inks on paper and on canvas. They bind well to paper but can be fragile on canvas, you need to seal them in with a gloss coat or something.
Yes 👍 alcohol inks are very fugitive, you have to seal them first Krylon sealer then a sun protection, never hang them in the sun ☀️ thanks for the info.
@@susanhansonart I ordered a pot of Golden UV Gloss Topcoat with UVLS, never tried it before and it's out of stock in most places here (UK). It's supposed to block UV light. I would normally just use a UV blocking varnish but I happen to have a big tub of Galeria brush-on matt varnish which has no UV protection hence the Golden stuff. I know you can get a UV protective topcoat for airbrushing and also model making but I've never risked that, partly because it doesn't mention fine art uses and I'm not sure it's OK on something as flexible as canvas. What I mean about acrylic ink being fragile is you need to seal it sooner rather than later because if you need to clean dust off you risk wiping bits off. I only found this out after using it for months so it's not an obvious issue.
I uses acrylic inks also , never noticed that ..hmmm thanks for the tips .the products out there are overwhelming….
Just found your channel. Love to do all the things you do. Just wondering where you got the orange square ruler from? Thanks and thanks for sharing. Debbie from NC.
Gosh I inherited them , I imagine you can find them at Michael’s …it’s a great tool . Thanks for commenting Debbie
It’s a fiskars brand
Really enjoying the colors and the way you add the different colors in! Do you know what the smaller brush brand and number is? It looks super pointy, but looks like it has a good belly at the same time. I tried stopping several times to look at the handle but it was a no go. 😂 Thanks for sharing your art.
Thanks for commenting OK I don’t know exactly which brushes you’re talking about so the one that is white and it’s a fatter brush is a silver atelier blending quill and is a size 30 and then the other one the black one that looks like the paints all worn off out on it. I’ve had that for gosh over 30 years it’s a I can’t. It’s a Kolinsky and it’s probably a size 6…I’ll put a link in description . 😅
May I ask where your shop/gallery is on the Oregon Coast…..I live in Oregon also
Seal rock OR..between Newport & Waldport …Dancing Coyote stop by after March 1 ..thanks for commenting
Thank you!

The Visual Journal with watercolor papers is wonderful. I have been using them for a few years now. The are great with wet on wet painting, mixed media, never had a problem. Not expensive, plus you can use both sides for practice.
Yes they are great , I like the small size too , ..

The best is yet to come! 😉
This was fun! I haven’t been south of Newport for many years but I love it there! Have you ever made your own graphite paper? I rub graphite, like from your pencil or a graphite stick to one side of a piece of tracing paper. I then smooth it with a piece of tissue/Kleenex and then go over it with another tissue with rubbing alcohol on it. That takes off the excess but leaves the graphite on it. I store mine in an old wrapping paper tube. It lasts forever and is erasable! Carbon paper is for permanent copies, oil based stuff! You can buy graphite paper but this is so much easier and it is cheap! ;) Merry and Happy! New subbing….
Hey thanks for the tip , I've always just used the woodless pencil , that sounds great . Happy new year ..
Leave a comment let me know what you like , what would you like to see ?
I never had an issue with calling myself and artist, but my issue was that the majority of people don’t appreciate the prices! I also don’t live in a great area for art so that’s also an issue, I don’t want to live in a metro area and I am not a fan of social media I had a big presence on it a few years ago and did it religiously everyday, made content and it was a lot of work I sold quite a bit but it’s not a steady income and supplies are expensive I’ve decided a job and art on the side is best model for me. Less stressful making a living;)
It is hard to make a living as an artist, especially outside of a major metropolitan area. It is a lot of work creating and maintaining a social media presence. i live in a tourist area on the coast . In my gallery people ask for discounts on my art ..Oh Boy! Keep making art its still good theraphy ...
Just found you. I love you🎉🎉🎉. ❤❤❤
Thanks 🙏
Big hello from Australia 🇦🇺 I'm a Mixed Media/ Intuitive Artist, loved meeting you & hearing your insights. Looking forward to future videos. Art is Life and Life is Art. 🌈🎨📝🫶
Good Day glad to hear from you . Thanks 🙏
“The more sugar I have or the more wine I drink, the next day I’m dumb as a rock!,” hahahahaha! Relatable!
This made me laugh 😂 but true
Susan, Hello from The Dalles. Blessings
Hello back ,
So what’s the secret to creative genius? I’m not sure I heard that in this video.
There is no secret . You just have to get started doing art .turn off the internal critic is the big thing which crushes creativity. Merry Christmas 🎁
Hi Susan. I randomly found you on TH-cam this morning and have watched a few of your videos. I love watercolour abstracts and anything created in a "mindful" way as it really helps with my mental health! I have now subscribed to your channel and will look forward to your new content as well as looking at all your previous videos ❤ I was really interested to see you were born in Newport. I live in Pontypool with my husband and 2 toy poodles (hence my art name 😂) so Newport is just down the road from us! Thank you for making the effort to share your art and knowledge with us. Merry Christmas and a Happy Artful 2025 ❤

@@susanhansonart Hi Susan. We have a few rooms done. The next step is to finish the kitchen. It's taking a lot longer than I though it would. I love old houses too. The easiest decision to make when remodeling appears to be the hardest for me. What color to paint the walls.
@@thriftedvintagehome I gutted my kitchen last year and did resin countertops ...scary undertaking ...turned out great !

Hey! I am 67 and an artist as well. I have been mulling it around to do a youtube channel. Anyway, I support you all the way and admire your boldness to do a channel. We all need support and I will watch all your videos. I know nothing on how to do it but it's all learning....on our own time :) Thanks for the encouragement :)
Hiya fellow Oregonian thanks 🙏 I appreciate the support. There is no time like now use your phone hit record. We can do this 🥰
Hi Susan! I just watched your video, and as of now you have over 1k subscribers, so congrats! I have just started investigating this TH-cam thing and I have been watching lots of videos on how to start andI have been taking lots of notes. I watched your video because of the title. I am 52 and when I saw you are 69/70 that peeked my interest to hear what you had to say about your experience with TH-cam and why you started a channel. I really resonated with your story about your dad and his struggles and eventual passing from Alzheimers. Such a tragic illness. I have so much compassion for people who struggle with that type of disease. I read an article recently that said staying creative helps keep your mind nimble and creating things can actually work out your brain the same as if you were exercising your body. I found that very interesting and it really affirmed all the money I have spent learning so many different creative hobbies. (ha ha). Thank you for being adventurous enough to take the leap! Also, I noticed that when you laugh at yourself you have the loveliest smile! Keep enjoying what you do! Cheers!!
Thank you Shannon you brought tears to my eyes , in a good way . I suggest you jump in , press record ...its a incredible, journey ..not easy , you are young and probably have a better memory than me . That has been my greatest challenge . big hugs ...Cheers ...
I'm in my 60's and have been thinking about it but not sure what direction/content I want to take. Thanks for the inspiration.
