    I just want to share about my son and his maths struggles too. He’s 9, and we have been told we have dyscalculia. I personally never heard much about it before. He would just hate math since he joined the school. Our friends recommneded us the dyscalculia program called Calcularis, and it's made a huge difference. If your kid struggles with math like mine, I really recommend trying Calcularis. And if you need something for dyslexia too, Grafari is helpful for spelling and writing.

    Thank you for some welcome encouragement . I was always in remedial classes at school and told I was lazy . One teacher even seemed to enjoy humiliating me over my poor spelling. I took a test and confirmed I have dyslexia just two year before I retired, better late than never , eh? Dyslexia slowed me down but never stopped me I had a relatively successful career. Now I understand what the problem was. I always wonder how my teachers from the 1970s would view there lack of empathy, I don’t believe they would have laughed at me if I had were in a wheel chair or if I was short of a limb. My daughter teaches now , I understand that she is trained to recognise the symptoms of dyslexia. Good luck to all of you living with dyslexia . Enjoy your wonderful creative minds as I do mine. 🥰

    Yap i 100% i agree As dislectic My self however, Wail I know exactly what you mean The only thing I'm sure for the stuff you said it's fine success in the life, It may be true that we see the world in different way and we are creative minds in most parts, However it's not gernty I will succeed in whatever gole we have in our lives Like any other person dislexic or not we fight to acive those goles we have in mind. Yes it's true that we preferred practical and not text from learning from example I will preferred to see videos instead to read a book 📖 for example. However wi still have to practice and wi failed ECT like any other person Wean you really think about it dislexia it's just i different ways off think 🤔 it's not better or worse it's just different. It's nothing Wong if someone are different but different it's not necessary mean better, In my opinion both dislectic and not dislectic people need to coexist because both brains 🧠 have the advice and distance. One other thing not every dislectic person have the same degree off dislexia, For example for it's very hard to learn to read as wean I was kid but I was never have problem with to distinguish Left and right I have seen some people on the internet the saying that dislexia and strangle to understand Left and Right something for my this looks wired because dispaid that I have all those reading writing problem's I never have problem with left right in most part But I definitely have different way off thinking 🤔

    Language skills are great but often today too many people get and give criticism on people with less than average grammar etiquette . Also I had a adjunct teacher in college that not so great writing skills even though he himself had a B.A in his occupation . When he admitted that to the class , I myself could relate to that . Nothing to be ashamed of, not all people possess expert grammar skills . We work with the best with what we have . The monolog here at 2:23 sums up my objective of commentary - " Spelling is not a sign of intelligence." Lastly the technology has given me a alternative to living and relearning grammar skills. Drawback the English language has re-evolved since the access to the cyber world has come of age making us all co-dependent life choices and sometimes a victim to it .

    • @readandspell
      @readandspell 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a person's ability to spell definitely doesn't reflect their intelligence. We all have different strengths and areas of difficulty.

      If somebody did have mild dyslexia yet didn’t know it, how can it have been missed? Plus with mild dyslexia is reading just as hard? I do not mean to sound naive m but I always felt lucky I can read, but looking back on my youth, when I was very young, I was sent to a speech therapy Teacher & I often wonder why? I remember how upset my Mom used to get when I made spelling mistakes (yet to me sometimes they made me laugh), but I do remember being a reluctant reader early on until my Teacher suggested to my Mom that I should read comics, because she felt my stuttering would not only improve, but I might gain an interest in reading. She was not only right on both accounts, but thanks to reading comics, my own imagination began to grow. Only looking back I remember some words tripped me in speeding, because it always confused me with words like your or you’re or were or we’re & I wonder can that have been an early side of mild dyslexia? Like I say, I can read, but I am still curious as to why I sent to this speech therapy teacher.

    Excellent video. I do not understand how "sight reading" is useful to most students. The "sight" reading method the teachers tried on me in grade 1 made no sense to me. Maybe because people who tried to help me with my reading homework (outside of school) kept telling me to "sound it out". If I had never seen a word before, I did not know what the word was. It seems to me, children would have to know at least enough phonics to know the sounds of the first and last letters of the word. They did not teach me ANY phonics until grade 3. I lost a lot because of that. Maybe this was because during the baby boomer years our classes had 35 students with one teacher. I then learned reading using phonics in the third grade and became very good at spelling as well. Speed reading came later after I had read words over and over again. I no longer had to sound them out but I can read words that I have never seen before.

    • @stanleygagner

      You are right. The research shows that phonics-based instruction is the most effective.

    • @readandspell
      @readandspell 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right, there is a lot of evidence for phonics-based instructions. However, everyone learns differently and for some the sight word approach can be preferential or generally a mix of both.

I hate handouts, I finally found a job that I can do if I learn to spell. To top it off I have dyslexia. The meds I am on, and my ,and is very forgetful. I have to do this to properly provide for my family. These are very helpful tips but WOW I never realized how hard spelling is and sounds.
