I know the video is really old but in case someone actually sees this. Is there a situation where refine magic is not supposed to work? I'm trying to refine Confuse on disk 3. I have 100 mesmerize blades and St Mag refinement but the game won't let me. The item name stays black but I can refine the blades into other things like Regen with Life mag. Is there something i'm missing? I also refined Confuse magic in the past.

Good strategy, but depending on how good your RNG is, it can take a while. The guy at the entry gates supposedly has the RNG to get abyss work cards, but I must have played him a good 40 times before I got 5 of them. If you wanted to get 5 for all three party memebers, you might be playing him for quite a long time. Also, @2:50 ""B1 to confirm"? What platform are you playing on, a nuclear reactor? Lol.

I'm surprised you thought the voice acting was bad, I think many consider it a very strong point. It's purposefuly over-the-top, but there is so much character and emotion. Favorite video game of all time - trumps FF7.

I always wondered if ff8 was rushed and some of this stuff was just left overs.

I have such fond memories of exploring the world maps in the PS1 FF games. FF8 in particular was really special in how many points of interest and places to discover there were, and the fact that the devs allowed us to discover them on our own and discuss with each other is a priceless gift. ☺️

I would like to add on one more key observation point that I think would help flesh out Amarant's Character abit more. I'm glad you did this video on him, cause its a rarity and I want to share these thoughts of mine. It's like what you said: that Amarant's a Loner. Probably an Orphan. Life is hard on people with no family, no attachments, and no form of comfort. Yet, what Amarant accomplishes in this story is interesting, in that he is less a character and more of a statement, an embodiment of the ideology of battle and validation through strength and personal Struggle! Amarant managed to become as strong as he is because he sought his own existence through fighting, learning to understand his Opponents through challenge and tests! Survival of the fittest as they say. Even though we don't know his past, he's not defined by it, he doesn't want nor cares about his origins, he is simply a hired thug, mercenary, head hunter with a chip on his shoulder. But more interesting is that I find that his moments through the game shine as he grows and learns to accept that he cannot face problems alone. Especially after being defeated by Zidane. And when he does, he faces the ultimate Irony when he falls into a trap in Ispen's Castle! For a guy as dangerous as him, there is no greater humiliation, than not being able to die in battle...but almost biting the dust by that "One Trap" that he missed after proving he was capable on his own! And then being saved by Zidane, ironic and humbling, and I find that fits with the themes of FF9.

Ammy is my second favorite character in the franchise, only taking a backseat to Auron. In fact, I have a half sleeve tattoo of my own design, with Auron on my inner forearm, and Amarant on my outer forearm. I really feel Square could have done so much more with my beautiful redhead’s story, primarily concerning his past-like, childhood past. I’d like to think he probably grew up in the slums of Treno, under the care of a single mom who worked herself ragged to care for her son. His fiercely independent nature could easily have stemmed from his experiences growing up, I feel... 💕 Anyway, three cheers for my second husbando. 🥰

Amarant was cool and disgustingly OP as well. I always felt like they were lazy with Amarant lore, the guy deserves much more.
