I've read about the 3.8 in trucks produced for Mexico but never an explanation of why only that market

We appreciate the 3.8 things you share. An extra gear is always a welcome addition for a 6, but sometimes the column shift is handy to have. Im putting in a top loader and using the column shift for the forward gears, and a PTO cable for reverse. Just an idea for your truck.

I could be wrong, but i think those 3.8 engines were only used in 1982 and 1983 and only in the F100.

It sounds more like an exhaust leak and maybe a noise from the water pump or even clutch. Check oil pressure when warm. The engine might be ok. It looks like a nice truck, super rare with the 3.8!

I knew that this engine was a option but I have never seen it in a F-150 of this year till now. You can get these engines in droves from old windstars that have rotted out. There should be lots of these engines in salvage yards due to Ford Windstars rotting out.

I would throw that motor in the woods a put a 300 six or a 302 in there

Poor old Essex motor, love these things. My first vehicle is a 97 F-150 with the modern 4.2L in it, still got it and even rebuilt the motor. These old carbureted 3.8s are definitely interesting, I got one on a stand right now from an 83 Mustang I'm tinkering with. Even own a 1990 Thunderbird Supercoupe with the supercharged 3.8.

I’ve seen many of the 1980-1986 F-series over the years. My stepfather owned an 85 F150 XL with a 300-6 and a 4-speed manual with OD. My cousin, then my grandfather owned an 82, not sure of the engine but it had a 3-on-the-tree. I have never seen one of these trucks with the idiot lights for the oil pressure and voltage. That was really neat to me. Btw, you’re lucky to have good bezels around your instrument cluster and radio/climate control. My stepdad owned his 85 F150 in the late 80s and early 90s and the sun had made those pieces brittle and they cracked way back then and his truck was 3 years newer than this one. Luckily now, LMC truck exists and they have almost everything you could possibly need to restore one of these. I’m really surprised those plastic bezels have lasted as long as they have and I’m so impressed that they did. Please share videos of your restoration of this truck. It’s so cool and I can’t wait to see the end results.

Wow, I never knew that V6s were available in these. I thought the 300-6 (4.9 L inline 6) was the only 6-cylinder available. Btw, I love the 3-on-the-tree. R 2 |~| 1 3

You should pressure wash and clean the engine up really good and paint it before you put it in the truck.

Thanks for this latest production& sharing of another 3.8L V6 ! So, very unlikely they have factory' O2 sensors as that unit matches mine with the bung'hole presumed position. And as another u'tube viewer mentioned to me, not likely factory' o2s in a '82 ! I will have to resched' some time, and attempt to reach out again, to enlighten R'A' that they are misleading within their online cat', costing me (& others?) $$ for parts not actually req'd for our '82 F-100 3.8L V6 's ! Unless someone out here, can show us a realtime photo(s) or vid' exhibiting' otherwise 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to share this vid'. Alas the focus' again was on the driver side, as it was leaning over onto the pavement, so missed the opp. side of the 'block. 8-) Was hoping to spot any sign of the 'positioning' of the elusive O2 sensor. LoL

Shucks I was hoping to see the procedure of extracting the serpentine . last Sunday p.m. my '82 F-100 V6 3.8L 2wd M3oT decided to blow out the driverside front engine block 'freeze plug' while travelling at 100kmh experiencing a bang and a whole of steam for the first time in 50yrs of driving; so I decided to also update a lot of related aged, minor components.

Thanks for this vid' ! Hmmm at 2:15, is that the elusive (tah me) O2sensor 'dangling' below from the broken linkage in the lower open view' background ? Oooor just another piece of the broken shifter mech' just dangling, ..... also possibly the engine connector end of the speedometer cable ? Looks like it could be the confirmation.... My Chilton' mentions O2sensor replacement pg.4-25; RA' system indicated existence, (so bought a couple) but all previous to confirming location in the middle of winter. I acquired my '82 F-100 V6 3.8L M3oT, 2dr. long bed, Brown, back in '97. From a friend' 3 hrs southeast of town whom I had mentioned to, 'that with a house I could certainly use a truck for pickin' up large sized home supply acquisitions .....' . About 4 yrs ago, one of the mechanics who had worked on it shortly after my acquisition, saw it drive into a local parking lot they were just about ready' to leave from, and when I parked he popped out of their vehicle to say right away he "recognized the truck easily with the same rims on it", lol ; asked if I had time could he check it out ; he then also mentioned again it was a rarity and looking good, even with less rust, than a lot of younger trucks have so quickly shown; I mentioned possibly putting it up for sale in the future and he suggested 5k . I decided in '022 that I would keep it going with a few more updates/upgrades (requisites & esthetics) . 8-) ~ ~ ~ ~ Been hoping to spot O2 sensor position on a vid' 8-)

Thank you Calvin -- you make it look easy. Are those actually metric bolts or are you just giving numbers that are "close enough". My 1989 F350 is a mix of metric and inch -- almost entirely inch and can make things difficult or sometimes easier at times.😀

Hey Calvin i know this video is older but can you tell me where you got your aftermarket parts? I cant find any i take, exhaust stuff like that for it. I cant find any aftermarket parts for this motor?
