I believe that the flod came again, and the whale survived. Flow and the group perhaps didn't survive, they lost their bote, the world looks fully submerged 😢. Beautiful movie!!! I hope it gets the Oscar for best Animamted Feature

The floods are cyclical , they come and go. These flows had been ongoing for a long time. May be it was the same whale, maybe it was a different whale. It doesn’t matter

Or maybe, the flood did came again, but since they are in group now. they would've found a way and survived. and obviously, whale also survived. as to movie meaning 3:48, we can assume that the group survived..

I feel like it was significant that in the beginning, the cat was just terrified by the stampeding deer, but at the end, although scared, made a distinct show of having learned from the deer, and knew to run after them to higher ground, and showed it's friends the way. The flood obviously came back, as shown not only by the whale at the end but by the friends looking at their reflection in the water that had already risen to that higher level. But the deer had gone higher and the cat and it's friends now knew to follow, since the deer were clearly able to survive the previous flood.

I think the Whale helped them to survive

I was also confused. I thought that the deer running meant that the flood was coming again. So the cat wanted to go back to the top of the hill to sacrifice itself to stop the flood again. But when the cat saw the whale the cat felt bad and decided to let the flood come to save the whale? That's was I assumed but it's still confusing to me.

Ok so, here’s my interpretation of an answer for your first two questions: The bird lost its ability to fly, it lost its flock. This sacrifice (which was made for the sake of “cat”) causes the bird to lose virtually everything. The bird has lost its purpose and will to live. Therefore, the scene where the bird ascends is a metaphor for giving up. The bird lost hope, but the cat does not pass away like the bird because the cat still has HOPE. The flood stops shortly after the bird dies not because it was performing a ritual, but it tells the audience that if the bird had stuck around longer, not given up hope, it still had chance of survival. This lack of hope from the bird’s behalf is also why the bird is upset when more animals (the dogs) aboard the boat. But that’s just the way I see it! What’s your theory? The movie gives lots of room for different opinions and lessons, which is what makes it so amazing… Also, watch “Aqua” to understand the deer running scene in the end. It is but a cycle.

This is my opinion: 1. This is possibly the most difficult component of the movie, if taken alone the arch of the bird it can mean sort of a transcendental culmination for the compassion shown to the cat to the point of selfless sacrifice. If related to the flood some people say it was the only animal worthy to offer a self giving sacrifice do to its compasion shown to the cat and the others this in order to revert the flood as we see that waters go back just after that event. If related to the 🐈 we see that both share a connection and how the 🐈 experiences the spiritual moment however maybe is not time for the cat to have that spiritual trascedence. In relation to the rest of the plot we are presented with possibly a world ending (or changing) view however this spiritual moment represents that life does not end with this earthly existence rather it transcends...

2. Judging by the architecture similar to Tibetan architecture and the relation human cultures put between high places and divinity this may be a sacrificial plea to the heavens to stop the flood as we see the bird looking to the sky like saying something to heaven...

The flood comes back again after the deers runs in the end and the whale didn't die. The four remaining animals stays together as the floods comes back

The film is a genious masterpiece due to the fact that a viewer can make himself independently assumptions about causes of events. The autor is not obliged to show all signs depriving the viewer of any varieties of interpretations. You, as a viewer, are invited to be a co-author of the sujet of this film.

@ivarkich1543 I truly loved this about the movie indeed. Thats why I was a bit surprised about the part of this video stating that there were signs. Maybe there was for one viewer which for another meant something else. I agree the movie was such a joy to watch. Amazing movie, from I'm sure an amazing team

🤦Lol what the flood is the whole thing It's the natural disaster that causes them to team up and work together despite there different species and personalities To survive I'm more confused about the cat statues everywhere 😂 such a great animation movie and story that's being told for a small budget and a small team

I agree with you. The human structures that remain look like they belong to a pre-industrial civilization, once which even appears to have lived in harmony with nature.

The bird was struggling to fly because of the broken wing, and knows its time was ending. When flying to the light (after death), the bird was able to fly gracefully again. Same thing with the stranded whale, it couldn't swim anymore. But it is seen again in the post-credit scene swimming freely towards a bright light (after death). So sad and beautiful at the same time.

I thought the Golden Retriever was different from the start. He wasn't bothered by the cat but the rest of the dogs chased it. And at the end when they started chasing a rabbit, I think they were just playing tug of war, but the Golden retriever had a better understanding of the situation and wanted to save his friends. That's why the other dogs were so easily distracted but the Golden Retriever wasn't.

When the golden retriever saw the cat for the first time, he was peaceful and curious, but only when the pack leader dog started barking, all the others (including the golden retriever) also started barking at the cat. This is a symbolism that there is always someone with the charisma to attract and lead people to do and imitate them, whether for good or for bad.
