This a great video but overlooks the presence of an existing shore power charger and alternator output while underway. There are many aspects that need to be considered like can the systems be wired in parallel or do they require isolation? I’ve seen a video from one solar controller company that shows the alternators connectors melting when the controller was left connected when the engine was running. Extreme fire hazard and inevitable system failure at sea!

Simple question, how many solar panels would I need to power a TV, fridge/freezer, keep my phone charged, led lighting, kettle, radio plus keep my leisure batteries charged? Cooking & heating by gas so everything else electric... How many panels? Please help, trying to find this info is too confusing. It's for a 26ft cabin cruiser

2 years later MPPT controllers are cheap enough to make pwm controllers a silly choice if you need to maximize charging.

Your video should have a lot more views I just tried the same product recommended by another Channel on TH-cam and my results to yours were very similar if not better. I made the mistake of not checking my electrolyte for a very long time and one of the cells boiled over and dried out. After adding the recommended amount of the additive and four discharge/charge cycles down to 11 volts DC open circuit, my resting voltage is now 12.82-12.94 VDC. Your video explained the chemistry action much better than I could. Bottom line this product is worth its weight in gold!

Have through about the windturbines on a sail boat, but not the ones I see. You need one that works with salt water

It's a water heater, not a HOT water heater. Why would you need to heat hot water? Regardless of the small savings on the controller and wiring price, the MPPT unit is more efficient than the PWM unit. It also allows for future upgrading of PV panels. You could add two more panels and wire them in series for 48 volts in, with smaller wires and not have to replace your controller. I've never met a sailor who wanted less charging capacity.
