The Power of Quantum Thinking | Dr. Vandana Shiva at Consciousness Symposium (2024)
Can quantum physics help us rethink the nature of consciousness? In this inspiring keynote from A Symposium on Consciousness, Dr. Vandana Shiva-a renowned physicist, author, and environmental activist-explores the profound connections between quantum mechanics, consciousness, and ecological democracy. Introduced by Dr. Àlex Gómez-Marín of the Pari Center, Shiva explains how entanglement and non-duality offer transformative insights for science, philosophy, and environmental activism, moving beyond the limits of mechanistic science.
Shiva draws from the wisdom of quantum pioneers like Max Planck, Erwin Schrödinger, and David Bohm, whose work shows that consciousness is not confined to the brain but instead serves as the foundation of reality itself. Reflecting on ancient teachings from the Vedas and Upanishads, Shiva challenges the illusion of separateness that dominates modern thought and highlights the importance of seeing biodiversity and ecological systems as interconnected living networks. Her ideas bridge quantum physics with practical solutions for seed sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, and ecological participation.
The talk reflects Shiva’s lifelong commitment to social justice and environmental activism. Drawing on her work with the Navdanya movement, she discusses the mind-body connection, the role of consciousness in quantum theory, and the urgent need to overcome ecological apartheid. This keynote invites viewers to explore how consciousness can inspire a future rooted in biodiversity, sustainability, and ecological harmony.
Who is Dr. Vandana Shiva:
Vandana Shiva, a world-renowned environmental thinker, activist, feminist, philosopher of science, writer and science policy advocate, is the founder of Navdanya Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology (India) and President of Navdanya International. Trained as a Physicist at the University of Punjab, she completed her Ph.D. on the ‘Hidden Variables and Non-locality in Quantum Theory’ from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. She later shifted to inter-disciplinary research in science, technology and environmental policy, which she carried out at the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India. In 1982 she founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology (RFSTE), an independent research institute that addresses the most significant problems of ecology of our times, and two years later, Navdanya (‘nine seeds’) the movement in defense of biodiversity and small farmers. In 2011 she founded Navdanya International in Italy and is Chairman of the International Commission on the Future of Food and Agriculture, co-founded with the then President of the Region of Tuscany. Recipient of many awards, including in 1993 the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’, and named among the top five “Most Important People in Asia” by AsiaWeek in 2001. She's is a prolific writer and author of numerous books and serves on the board of the International Forum on Globalization, and member of the executive committee of the World Future Council.

Western scientists are as afraid of the idea of God as superman is of crytonite. The missing element in all these debate regarding matter/mind is God. God is the drecting intelligence behind matter. Matter is not simple. It is dynamic. It has the ability to take the shape of mind.

John's work has literally been pivotal. The turn toward the Good has made all the difference. It seems to me that all the "spiritual shadow work" in the world seems useless if it's not consciously oriented toward the Good, aligning with the inner and outer logos. I have thumped Bibles and also been a hard atheist with the whole 4 horseman etc... John's work showed me a new path that leaves those old "God or no God" paradigms behind. I don't argue with people about Gods anymore, now I try to learn what kinds of spiritual practices people find meaningful. People love to share this if given the chance. I can learn from people that I hold very little in common with. Thank you John and all the giants whose shoulders you've been standing on! Keep up the Good work! Question for anyone reading...is there a correlation between "free will" and flow states? It feels like the only time I have actual free will is when I'm completely absorbed in the flow and my shadow self is behind me. That famous Walt Whitman quote about always facing the sun and shadows falling behind made me think of this. I read Walt Whitman's poetry as sacred and I'm always digging. Any insight?

A few years ago I noticed that fluffy seeds were journeying above the creek together. They seemed to be intentionally floating together. This year, I had a bag of fire weed seeds in my truck. As I drove past different ideal spots that they would like, suddenly they were levitating twards the window and out. The seeds consciously chose where they wanted to go. Even the seeds of a plant are aware of their surroundings. ☀️💛☀️

If GMO is globalization, then I would like to understand what is centralization? I thought globalization was more to do with exchange of diversity from around the world. When Native American started adopting some of the crops brought by settlers, they did not have to sacrifice their way of life or their values or ethics and there was an exchange of diversity but in harmony. It was not one gene modified ruling the world.

It's interesting that you talk about the "master", brave of you. I see that everything that Europe did to the world, They did it to their own people first, burned, beheaded, crucified, whipped, hanged, slavery, colonisation, the fear, brain washing . Before Europe exports it to the outside continents. I don't understand why. But I really feel sorry for white people. While they feel sorry for us. I just feel that they are more traumatized than the rest of the world. Sorry if I have offended. Just my subjective observation. I have a dream about the day white people will be free 😊. May God help all humanity 🙏.And all our other sisters and brothers. Thank you.

"Shiva draws from the wisdom of quantum pioneers like Max Planck, Erwin Schrödinger, and David Bohm"...well WESTERN quantum pioneers, as the ancient texts of Upanishads and those seers, as Vasistha, Agastya, and so on were the pioneers of quantum, as an experience. We have to be clear that scientists did not discover quantum as an experience, but rather as their theory and reconstruction from, as she points out, a mechanistic view that had prevailed.

I am not good at mathematics but I have a fascination for it and quantum sciences. Since I have taken a journey of awareness, I am seeing serendipity, butterfly effect, and synchronicity all the time. It's as if 2 forces have always broadcast in our head. The one you choose to nourish will work with you. And the unconditional love has always been here and owns the universes. Everything is alive. And that love voice is so talkative in a lovely way because he owns the chiffres, time and space, everything and everyone answers to him. It can't be otherwise. Thank you for your work and God bless you.
