7.3 idi injectors removal and replacement
This is a short and to-the-point video on how to change your injectors yourself on a 7.3 idi (non turbo) Diesel engine. This video will not work for powerstoke engines with a turbo. The exact model of this vehicle is a 1994 ford e350 ambulance.
The engine was hard to start and had significant smoke on startup. I had a mechanic do an evaluation and told me the injectors are leaking into the cylinder which is why is smokes heavy at startup and goes away after running for a bit. I estimate it would cost me $1600 to pay a shop to change my injectors. I decided to do it myself. I found rebuilt injectors on eBay for $300 and I already owned most of the tools. I bought a 1” deep socket, anti seize, petroleum jelly for the O-rings, and a pick set.

An unforgettable CHRISTMAS SURPRISE!!!
มุมมอง 8775 ปีที่แล้ว
My parents were going through a life crisis with health, finances, and housing. My siblings and I got together and got them a new home and surprised them for Christmas. They now have a clean and safe place to live, as well as closer to family for health support and love.
Recently i bought a 88 F450 with fuel Injector problems. Thanks so much for the much needed information. G B you
Quick question for ya, what kind of behaviors did your truck have when it had the injector problems?
Thank you for the video. People are saying I shouldn't change injectors myself, but you made it look pretty easy. Are 7.3 idis easier to change than most other diesel engines?
the idi is a very simple injector to change, don't re use the return caps and lines, it's like 40 bucks to change them and should be done when doing injectors
Good for you Jarrod! Love it!
No new videos?
Where have you been? Are you and your beautiful dog ok?
Thanks man, this will be helpful in the future!!
Are those cyclones made from the burning man? Interesting
HI. Just picked up a 93 E350 Club Wagon (working on the engine from front and back inside sucks) with 7.3l idi na. 255k miles. Starting is getting worse and I have a tick sound. Which injectors did you get? How much? Did you do your glow plugs too? How about the fuel supply and return lines to the filter? Any tips on getting to all of the injectors inside the van's cramped engine bay? I'm doing all of these things eventually. Thanks. Your video gave me some good lucks at my future work.
Is the ticking prior to starting during the prime cycle? Are you still getting the wait to start light on the dash? If not start with your glow plugs then do injectors
@@ianlouis7033 Hmm. I never noticed the ticking while starting, but it's there while running. My glow plugs appear to be working. My wait to start light comes on or 8 to 15 seconds depending on how cold it is outside, then goes out. If I sit there I get the GP relay cycling, which is supposed to be normal. I'm an electrical engineer, and understand that if some GP's are open or shorted, it messes up the combined resistance that the GP relay control board "sees" and could cause problems. I have yet to pull the harness leads and check the GP resistance. I'm going to rebuild the GP harness anyway since the white plastic connectors are brown and some are cracking. But, all the connectors are still on their GP's. I'm becoming convinced that my problem is an air leak, or fuel let-down. If I start the van cold after a week of sitting, it takes 15 to 20 seconds to start. When I first hit the starter, I seem to "hear" one cylinder firing, and then eventually more, and finally the engine starts. If I start it 1, 2, 5 hours later the same day it starts much quicker. I suppose it could be the GP's and the engine might still be warm. I'm going to thoroughly check the GP's and harness, and then tackle the fuel lines. I'm hearing horror stories of replacement mechanical lift pump failures with the ones now available. I'm going to be methodical about it. Thanks for the info. I guess I'm just going to have to pull some of the fuel hoses to see that the real size is.
Where did you get the new injectors?
If I ever get to do a van life I only have two choices to pick . An ambulance like yours or a short bus . I think those two are the perfect size for me not so big and not so small . Its been my dream for awhile , I been watching a lot of van built every night . Going to start following your blog to learn some stuff . Glad I get to see your ambulance blog , take care bro!!!

It's been two years. I hope you and Bailey are still doing great and going strong. Edited videos aren't necessary when your material is fascinating. I will check out your Instagram but I am still learning how to use it.
i just discuvered your channel video tour but now u sold your ambulace? well eiter way i subscribing t your cannel papi
ahhhh i just discovered your video f yor a,buamce tour now tat im on your channel my surprise is ou sold it now?
I hope you sold this and did well for yourself. $40K seems a bit excessive for what looks like you put a few things in to make it a "camper". I have seem gorgeous builds for that price. A twin bed on wood???. Not sure if there was more, the video wasn't great. It definitely looks like you threw something together without much thought, or perhaps that is inexperience. Sorry, but a bit disappointing.
Hey there, I haven’t been on TH-cam in a while. I sold less than my asking price. The market for 4x4 ambulances is very hot right now. I’m getting $35k on rigs that I’ve done nothing to. Because of that, I’ve stopped doing any of the building and leaving that for the person who buys it
Please tone down the music.
I thought when you buy an ambulance you have to remove all the insignia and cover or replace the red lenses on the lights
Jarrod, are you still building ambulance camper vans? I do not see any more recent videos. Curious as to how much this sold for, and if you had it titled as an RV before it was sold. Thanks!
I did sell this in 2019. I got $25k for it. I’ve bought and sold many more since then. I operate everything through instagram.com/earth_medic
Saw your build on another channel. Looking forward to seeing your progress and the steps you took to get there.
Hey Jarrod what's up 1y later?
How's the ambulance doing? Still battling with the 10mpg? If it's a 7.3 powerstroke, I suggest getting a hydra tuner for it which will help increase your fuel mileage and help your transmission a lot. Also, maintenance is the key so keep up with it religiously. Look up Hot Shot's secrets for oil /fuel additives.
I appreciate that. I’m in a 4x4 c5500 kodiak ambulance now. Say hello on instagram.com/earth_medic

Are you building these now and reselling them?
I just did the same exact build with a 1996 7.3. I stripped everything and rebuilt with cedar t&g, but almost identical accessories. I went with an inergy flex, and 400watts of solar!!! Solid build. I hope u sell it!
Can you share how that fold open bed works? What kind of latches are used there?
So what happened with your site? I tried it and no luck. Anything for sale?
What LG panels did you use? What voltage/watts are they?
I tried signing up for Instagram, big problem, I'm on Facebook.
I'm interested in doing a build like this, I'm Disabled, Part-Time Self Employed and would like to set an Ambulance (Preferably an E-350, probably not needing 4WD) as a mobile Live-Work Unit, I am a Piano Tuner and Musician with Trade School and Academic backgrounds in these respectively. I'm located in Northern California, I did spot an Ambulance on Facebook Marketplace in Klamath Falls Oregon that was more in my Price Range, but it was built in 1988, which makes me reuctant to pursue it. If I was more "Into" cars (as in Tearing Apart Automotive Engines, Etc.) maybe I would go for it because the vehicle part of it almost certainly needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Possibly the "Box" could be Salvaged and put on a newer chassis, but I'm just speculating.
Hey Jarrod, Im checking out an ambulance tomorrow and i'm wondering how you went about the insurance? Did you insure it as an RV or did you just tell them its a (insert model of vehicle before conversion)?
I ran into this issue. I am paying up the butt for industrial insurance.
Not all states are the same but in Kentucky. I changed my title to a rv. Had to have a "fire marshal inspection $65.00". Then a trip to the Dmv. They changed it right in front of me. 2 weeks later my Rv title came in the mail.
I am a Disabled Person who Plays Music and Tunes Pianos part-time, I'm contemplating putting together a Van that I can do extendedTravel (possibly live in for extended periods, and "Stealth" Camper, if neet) and Securely Store equipment. My main Instrument is a "Chopped" Hammond Organ H 12" x W 46-1/2" xD 35" (Folded-Up, thinking of housing it in Under-Bed Garage Space) with small Leslie Cabinet: H 33-1/4" x W 29" x D 20-1/2" in addition to other things (Guitar/Amplifier, Drums, other Keyboards & PA+ Piano Tuning/Servicing equipment. In my case, I'll probably have to start from Scratch, but would like to design/modify storage and Necessities as needed.
Craig Browning I encourage everyone to try this lifestyle. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
Jarrod how do I get a hold of you do you have messaging turned on?
marksmilesalot Hey there! Sorry for the delay, it has been a busy few weeks. You can reach me on Instagram at earth_medic
I’m a flight paramedic in Erie, PA. I’ve been in that ambulance a few times. Pretty neat.
Hi Jarrod! Been following you since the Coudersport rig. What’s the avg MPG these diesel 4x4’s get?
Nicole Christine that’s for sticking with me. They get on average 10-12mpg
Great looking Rig
Nomad NewsTV thank you!
@@purelit Interested in doing a build like this, disabled, on a budget, part-time Self Employed, have some Electrical/Mechanical skills, would DIY as much as possible.
That is my dream rig, I am currently building out a 20' 1957 Ideal travel trailer I will be pulling with my 2002 Tahoe. Definitely taking cues from your build, why are you selling it?
Prolific Invention thank you! I bet your travel trailer is kick ass. I bought this rig specifically to build and sell. I’ve really been enjoying building so I thought why not build for others
"affordable" haha. Just sell me one for what u got it for without a "conversion". I gotta get outta this tiny van.
I have two questions about the previous 4x4 you owned. Do you have the ability to recharge the Battle Born lithium using the ambulance's alternator ? How long did it take to fully recharge the lithium battery ?
kb3mpx I did not attach the lithium to the alternator. It was 100% solar powered
Just be real, don’t worry about polish
whatsupdate thank you
what's up with the business?
Make sure you clean it good.
Heya! great build for starts! saw another vid on tiny house tours. Speaking of portable toilets, have you heard of Incinolet? id think it would be something to look into. just wanted to share that!
Very interesting. I spent a lot of my career as a Paramedic with Coudersport. Many a trip/call in that ambulance. Great video. Jim
I was as well. Trying to keep myself and people in front of me from getting BBQ'd. It's a khaki thing.
Some of the reviews for Flex Seal we're not at all good. Dicor might be the better way to go.
Dave Stennes I used 2 other types of sealant. The flex seal was just extra because I had it.
@@purelitI used some Flex Seal on side windows on a Geo tracker soft top. I applied the Flex Seal over fiberglass tape and results were excellent. I think the Flex Seal by itself is prone to leaking but you used as a top coat only so you're good.
I have to admit some disappointment that you’ve sold your ambulance as I thought your build was very “livable” and was looking forward to seeing where you went with it. I do think it’s a worthwhile pursuit to start building them as you are clearly very good at it. How’s your doggie doing?
See Carla Shoot Hey Carla! I did quite a bit of traveling once it was done. I mostly shared that on Instagram @earth_medic. I’ll get back to traveling again but I got the itch to open a business :). My pooch is a happy girl. Her name is Bailey
