I'm glad I don't have to crouch down that low to enter or leave the house. 😅
lol Same here! My back wouldn't be able to take too much of that
Excellent video! Hope to see the rest of your Kyushu tour soon!
Thanks! Doing the finishing touches to episode 6 as we speak. Hoping to get that on this week
2 things: (1) I want one and (2) will it outrun Godzilla? 😂
lol I have faith that it would
Wonderful video. I agree that this model is Japan’s most beautiful bike. I prefer it in the cafe dress.
The cafe version is definitely another stunner
Very interesting. Nice video too.
I'm glad to hear it! :)
Fairly long ride - is the seat any better than the W800?
It honestly feels exactly the same as the seat on the W800
A population of 14 billion people in Tokyo sounds a bit exaggerated 2:16

As long as you've had enough rest the previous day it's fine, and especially on this mountain where you're hiking with a lot of other people on the same trail. I definitely wouldn't recommend it on a mountain that doesn't have the foot traffic that Mt. Fuji has
Thank you love this bike I will buy one real soon
That's great to hear! I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed riding on the different W800 models over the years
I've owned mine since 2016 from new, and being a rarity here in the UK I've had nothing but great conversations with fellow bikers about it. People online who like to call it a Bonneville copy only show themselves to be short of grey matter and I can almost guarantee none of them have ever actually ridden a W. Both are wonderful machines in their own right, it's not an either or argument. Also as you've stated the original Meguro was built on licence, ergo with BSA's permission, it was nothing to do with Triumph, they just see a parallel twin and swinging arm and pass judgement. But there were countless motorcycles being manufactured by almost every marque from that period with that same setup. People also forget the amount of ideas companies like Velocette introduced for example which were subsequently "adopted" (copied) throughout the British industry, even by Triumph. That's the nature unfortunately of business, and it's been going on long before Meguro existed. As for the W800, although it's subjective, to my eye it has one of the most beautiful engines ever made. The uniqueness of the bevel driven overhead cam is unrivalled. I've actually done some fairly long days on mine with a pillion and we tend to find after around 5-6 hours your cheeks do get a bit numb. I've done plenty of motorway riding too and it's quite happy to plod along in top gear for many many miles. I've made some aesthetic tweaks to my own personal taste, but as motorcycles go it's timeless! I only wish we had the Meguro branded version here in the UK!
Incredibly well said! I'm glad you noticed the part about Meguro building their bike with BSA's permission. That's the bit that a lot of people seem to ignore. Back in the day, as you said, a lot of companies did exactly that. I'm glad that you've been enjoying your W since 2016. It's definitely a bike that a lot of people outside Japan look past, and it's a real shame since it's such a beauty (In my opinion). Since I made this video, they've released a smaller Meguro bike as well. It's another looker. I believe it's a 250. I'm glad you liked the video, and most of all keep on enjoying that W of yours!
awesome stuff, Jeff. I am planning to visit Fukuoka this summer too as part of my Japan trip 😉definitely excited
Thank you! I hope you'll have a great time when you're there
Great video. My family loved traveling by Shinkansen from Tokyo to Fukuoka. Much less stressful than flying by plane (which we did on the reverse trip, on our way out of the country). Fukuoka was also great-we'll be going back for sure.
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys the Shinkansen over flying. Hopefully you and your family can enjoy some roadside ramen when you're there next time
another great one

That's very kind of you to say! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm about to release episode 5 soon. That one will be a bit shorter, but episodes 6, 7, and 8 should all be a bit more in depth.
Hi Jeff - thank you for sharing your thoughts on the bike and your adventures in and around Japan. I sense you spend a lot of time there and bet you have a genuine fondness for the people, history and culture. My wife and I try to visit at least once a year. Thank you for sharing a lot of good information about the W800. I’m planning to buy one here in sunny California very soon - can’t wait! Also enjoyed your review of the Meguro K3. Hmmm, wonder if that’ll ever make it stateside. Anyway, thanks again and cheers. Let the good times roll!
Thank you so much! I'm originally from upstate NY, but have been living here in Japan for about 10 years now and I'm still enjoying it. California's another place I'd love to be someday. I'm glad you enjoyed both of those bike videos. Let the good times roll, indeed!
Hmmm … when your best is a just copy of the real thing, ain’t say much

Finally starting to make bikes like they should
The quality of these bikes really shows, too
Hi Jeff, I recently dicovered your channel and, step by step, I´m watching the different videos. Specially those with bikes are interesting for me. In my country (Spain), I have the same bike you employed to go to Chiba, the Suzuki V Strom 650 XT. Not the fastest, but good enough to go wherever you want. It´s comfortable, handles well and has a very smooth and reliable engine. I also have a Honda CB 750 from 1999, but this one, even having a very refined engine is not so suitable for travelling. Thanks for your nice videos !!!
Hi Xavier, I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying my bike videos! I'll get back to making some more of them once I finish up the 4 remaining episodes of my Kyushi Miniseries. Those are both really sweet bikes that you have. I was lucky enough to ride a later 90's model CB 750 a few years ago before I started the channel and really enjoyed that bike, too. The V Strom has one of the most comfortable seats I've ever been on. I wish more bike companies would focus on their seat comfort as much as Suzuki does with that model. I've heard some great things about Spain. I'd love to ride there someday, too. Keep riding safe!
Hi again Jeff, yes, Spain is a wonderful country to ride a motorcycle. Many different landscapes, good roads, lots of historical sites and delicious food. But you should avoid July or August which are, in general, too hot !! If you ever decide to come, I would be pleased to show you all the best routes in my beloved island, Mallorca, where I live.
@@xaviercartana5981 July and August are way too hot here in Japan, too. I try to take those months off from any kind of riding if possible. That's a very kind offer! Your island looks really beautiful. Hopefully someday I'll be able to check it out
Hi Jeff, I enjoyed very much your video about the Honda CB350 and because of it I am considering in renting one and make a small tour with it. I am right now spending 3 months in Osaka and once weather conditions are OK will organize it. Any recommendations for such a one day tour ? Thank you for the nice videos 🙂
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Unfortunately, the few times I've been to Osaka I went by train, so I haven't had a chance to tour around that area on a bike. If you find some great routes out that way I'd enjoy hearing about them. I Hope you'll enjoy the ride!

It's always nice meeting another Kawa fan. The S is definitely another looker! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The W's history is fun to talk about. You might also enjoy the video I did on the Kawasaki Meguro K3

Can you please upload the next episode of Kagoshima?
I sure can! lol Sorry for the delay! Lots of things have come up over the course of this year, but I'm currently working on the Kagoshima episode. Thanks for patiently waiting
How is this on freeway speeds, can it keep up with traffic?
Definitely! I didn't have any issues keeping up with traffic on it
the meguro badges are so beautiful!
They really are!
I like a scooter with doors, as if it had windows. What is the price of such a scooter and what license do you need to drive it?
I like it a lot, too! Definitely a unique vehicle. The price starts at $20,000 and can go up to almost $30,000 for the top trim level with all the accessories. The license you need to drive it depends on where you live. In the U.S., some states require a motorcycle license, and in other states a car license is enough.
Great review. Your love for the bike clearly shows through. You’ve captured the sound of the 800 far better than any other review. I had a w650 and dearly loved it but it didn’t like the freeways much and the seat was no bueno after just an hour or two.
Thank you so much! Of all the bikes I've ridden so far, I still keep going back to the W800 as my favorite. There's just something about it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels a bit beat up after a couple of hours on that seat lol
I've wanted a W800 for some time now. Unfortunately my local dealership doesn't get them in, we are remote, and my garage is full with 5 other bikes, two of them being Kawasakis.
You can never have too many bikes! Hopefully your local dealership will make an exception so that you can get your hands on a W800 in the not too distant future :)
@@jeffinjapan2549 that’s true! lol It would be great if they did. I think the W800 would be the perfect keeper bike. I’m in my late 50’s, it could be the bike I ride into my 70’s, maybe 80’s… if I’m lucky. 👍
@@pinkiewerewolf I hope I can get one someday and do exactly the same!
When I was a kid in the 90's, I used to read books about the story of my favorite bikes. Now I got a 2023 W800 and your video is that "book" where I go to for a nice breakdown of the origins of the bike.
lol As a fellow 80's/90's kid I'm glad I was able to help bring that ''book'' to you
Thank you for the great review. I have the more classic looking GB350, which outside India is called the Honda H'ness CB350. The model you reviewed is called the Honda CB350RS and I admit, a bit cooler looking. The H'ness does have less plastic, though, so more chrome to polish on non-riding days. And......it is just the best sounding thumper in the world! The two main problems for me with this bike are 1) the seat and 2) the gearing. The standard model has this weird looking combined saddle + pillion seat. The newer models have these separated, but nevertheless....after a couple of hours riding it starts getting really uncomfortable as you can't really change positions. Might have to do with my height and leg length, though. The solution that many people have for this is reupholstering after cutting the foam flat and it makes the seat so much more comfortable and the bike look so much cooler. I did it as well and it is a game changer. The gearing from the factory (14T front, 35T back) is too tall for city and mountain riding. RPM in second gear is too high for @50 km/h and third is too low. You hardly use fourth and fifth is overdrive, so only used on express/freeways. Changing the ratio really makes a difference and I opted for 14T/37T, which is a difference between this bike being okay and it being SO MUCH FUN to ride! More torque, less switching gears in city traffic because you can use third gear from 35~70 km/h and fourth gear is finally usable. Some people go as far as 14T/40T for maximum torque when mountain riding, but I'm happy with 14T/37T for overall performance. On my TH-cam channel I have some videos on riding my CB350 in Taiwan, where I am located. I invite you to check them out and keep those awesome bike reviews coming. Cheers!
The classic GB350 is another great looking machine! I'm a big fan of that styling, too. That thumping sound both bikes make is really fun. It helps give them such personality I think. That's great that you were able to customize your seat in a way that improves the comfort that much. Also, changing the gear ratio sounds like it was the right move to make. You might as well get the most out of those gears. I'll be sure to check out your channel! Thanks so much for telling me about it, and for sharing your stories about your bike. Ride safe out there!
Your channel is a hidden gem. Thank you for the videos
That's very kind of you to say. Thank you so much!
Love your videos. I hope you keep pumping out more of these. cheers!
Thank you! I'm trying my best to keep them coming
Well done! What do you use to record? Mostly to keep the wind away...
Thank you! I use a GoPro 9 with the Media Mod on it. That Media Mod comes with a dead cat that wraps around the built in mic. It's still far from perfect, but it cuts out a lot of the wind and it's a lot better than the recordings I did without it on.
@@jeffinjapan2549 thank you so much. How are you with that go pro? Pros and cons?
@@alcyoneband I've heard people complain about the GoPro 10 and 11 overheating, but my 9 hasn't really had that issue. Once in a while when it's recording there's a hiccup and it shuts down, but luckily that only happens once in a great while. Overall I enjoy it, and it's been a great camera to film with. The GoPro 12 will be coming out soon, and I'm tempted to get it, but at the same time my 9 has treated me pretty well. I may keep it as a second camera.
@@jeffinjapan2549 thanks. What about battery and things like that? And you can put an external mic?
@@alcyoneband It depends on how much recording you'll do at a time, but for what I do 2 fully charged batteries gets me through a few hours of recording my riding videos. The batteries in the newer model GoPros can last even longer I've heard. Rode seems to be the brand that a lot of people recommend when it comes to attaching an external mic to the Media Mod on the GoPro. I haven't purchased one yet, but I'm planning to at some point
I have a 1966 B8S and a Z H2, but would love to find a W1. Absolutely beautiful.
Adding a W1 would be like the cherry on top of your already great collection!

It really would! It has everything that a beginner or commuter bike needs and a bit more I think
taint beautiful. only practical, plus tower shaft. cb72/77 were so pretty that laverda made a big one.
Very nice motorcycle, Jeff! I can tell it's well taken care of. I used to live in Corning NY, south of the finger lakes. Upstate New York is a very pretty area.
