Thanks for your comment. To explain the “1+0=0 line” you mention, it is actually not a line but part of the choruses’ visual image. The chorus words are actually “1 and nothing makes nothing” - therein lies the hint. To quote Jesus re his telling of Parables, “I speak to them in figurative language”. In similar vein, the visual images in my Parables songs all contain figurative challenges, some fairly obvious, others more challenging. In the choruses’ image, the mathematical equations depict the stories of the talents given to the three servants. The “1” refers to the talent given to the third servant, the “0” refers to what he did with his money and the “= 0” refers to the end result for him. In this context, I’m sure you’ll agree that “1+0” does indeed equal nothing. Re your concern with using the song unaltered with children, please don’t make the mistake of underestimating your “children”; they may surprise you. None of the many hundreds with whom I have personally shared the song have ever expressed any concern with “the mathematical mistake”. Best wishes John

OK, I assumed that was the only thing it could mean if it wasn't genuinely a mistake, but I think I would prefer to think up an illustration that would work in real life!

+John Hayles One and nothing still makes one. In the parable the first two servants/slaves double the money while the third leaves it the same. Perhaps you could say one and nothing makes no difference.
