You know the most obvious reference is when Cait Sith shoots a dress sphere at Yuffie and gave her that outfit. Even the transition is reminiscent of X-2.

This game weirdly made me miss playing X-2 a lot. Especially the Gongaga bit where you play as Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie only. The 3-girl squad here has so much potential for great moments. It made me hope Aerith would somehow survive in this timeline so we could get more T.A.Y moments. I was so upset only Yuffie got the sailor moon transformation bit in gold saucer. Was soooo reminiscent of the outfit changes in X-2.

There's a small reference to X-2 in Remake as well. In the Shinra museum, you can see an old photograph of the company and right in the middle is a man wearing a gas mask very similar to the one worn by Shinra in X-2.
Shinra in X-2 caused the Destruction of the Planet by harvesting the power of the Farplane.
it's canon and confirmed that ff vii and ff x are in the same universe, just different planets. that explains lots of similarities between the two games

Funny, you'd think there would be more nods to FFX/2 considering the fact that they're canonically in the same universe(Thousands of years apart on separate planets but still)

@@OnyxRanger09 Rikku from FFX was originally going to be in KH1, but considering that there was a KH main character also named Riku (with one k) it was going to be confusing with two characters with the same name, so they opted for Yuffie instead.

YRP doesn't make sense though. If it's in Japanese, they can get Yu from Yuffie, Ri from Aerith, and Fa from Tifa - YuRiFa.
In English, Yuffie said "Yuffie Recon Patrol." YRP. In Japanese, it'd probably be something like... Yufi Rikon Paturoru? Apparently the reference doesn't actually exist in the Japanese dialogue, though, but a YRP/Yuffie Recon Patrol reference could work in katakana.

I don't think it's a reference, just a coincidence. Otherwise, it's just a reference for the sake of a reference without any connection. It's not even in the Japanese version (YuRiPa), only in the English translation.
Ummm, sweetie, it is a reference. It may not be in the Japanese version, but it IS a reference in the English version. Yuffie Recon Patrol = YRP = Yuna/Rikku/Paine. It was explicitly written that way to MAKE the reference. How fucking dense are you? Also, references for the sake of references CAN be made. They don't have to have some special, meaningful connection to be allowed to be references. Again, how fucking dense are you?
Still an easter egg. Theres little things like this that allude or 'reference' other FF games. Like a baby chocobo sitting on Barret's head like Sazh in FF13

Yeah, didn't Kitase confirm that the two games are in the same universe, just different planets? If the rumors of a possible FFX remake for the game's anniversary turns out to be true, I hope they take the opporitunity to address it a bit more.
