The gun is never the problem it’s the person holding it that makes a bad decision that is the problem not a inanimate object
Man that's a great answer and it kicks the nuts of detractors
Without the "all age" You do not get another music scene which means no growth
Watching from New Orleans. Awesome. I had no idea he talks to Rollins every Sunday.
if you take a passing glance at the vast majority of "rock stars" of the 80s and 90s (forget about prior to that) you would be hard pressed to find a handful who was not a colossal prolapsed rectum in some way. then there's ian, who -and i hate myself for writing this, because it seems like so much smoke, but it's honestly how i feel- seems like the only one who's a decent responsible intelligent human being. i look forward to meeting him one day.
Washin' Dc
I was in The Hague, NL two nights ago coz my friend was jamming in a jazz band, and suddenly a woman with three kids (probably all under ten) came in after they'd been standing outside watching the musicians. I was a bit unsure but then I realized I never really see kids at shows... but they were in absolute awe of the band and it was wonderful to see the admiration and wonder in their eyes. I hope they keep that forever.
I agree that everyone should be allowed to watch concerts, but not if moshing is common or if it’s got lots of drinking and drugs. Or at places like bars and nightclubs
wait! what was the response!? that's what matters more!
Ian sounds like me trying to convince my mom to take parental controls off my phone
....and looped 😊🫂☮️
Yes its the age fault how dare you blame Guns Guns are holy Guns bring us our beloven schoolshootings. More Guns are needed but ban music.
The problem is not the gun you fuggin retard.
What were the results of the hearing? Was a ban put in place?
Thanks Ian, without your all age shows at my town I would not have seen you more then ten times and numbers of others ,Rollins the first your friend
Yep I attended an all ages Fugazi show in Derry Northern Ireland many years ago
Enjoyed meeting Ian a couple times. Such a cerebral and creative guy. I’m definitely interested in knowing did he indeed win here? Was the ban implemented or enforced?
I have such immense respect for Ian's integrity throughout his career
beer money tho. am I right? that’s what their after
The very definition of integrity
I'm preparing to give a statement at a PTA meeting in my school about them getting rid of the music education program in the elementary school, and Ian standing up for what's right in this video totally has me ready to speak my mind in a way I never have before.
good luck man!
I saw Fugazi twice. In Ireland.
What a champ!
Music is a form of communication that predates language, the most smart thing I've ever heard
In college I had to recite a speech from someone famous for my public speaking class. I chose this speech
I'M A MINOR AT HEART!
I like that he referred to his own legacy as legendary haha pretty self aware
It's because he's sworn under oath to tell the truth! :D
This dude is fantastic. His music is some of the best punk has to offer and we all know the genre has millions upon millions of bands, but without him punk wouldn’t be what it is. But also he is well spoken and actually cares about the fans or people he meets! No way you can hate the guy
Ok, he was in a punk band. He also started Fugazi who did far more than MT. They created post-hardcore. You’re welcome.
@@chadwickwright2833 Again he formed another form of punk. I’m already acknowledging his achievements
mic drop.enough said ian mackaye.
Yasssssssssssssssssss.
Fucking legend
We can't have demonstration.
MacKaye nailed his argument. I wish he was still making music. Maybe it is me, but there is a void. Fugazi was hardcore, too. None of that tough guy crap that is pervasive in hardcore today.
I love Fugazi, but they ain't hardcore
All age show is I got into punk and almost 30 years later I still go to shows and I see all age kids there with stars in their eyes and you can feel that they love this sound or any type of other music old music is for the new generation all generations young and old punk rock forever!!!!
Places like fucking Virginia Beach have almost no minors let into shows; Ian is right here.
He sounds like such a sound guy when he talks, and then you hear guilty of being white and then you're like, well.
o3BYKo Keep in mind how young he was when that came out
oh no don't tell me you're another one of these people who blatantly choose to be revisionist about something they read on an article online.
Guilty of Being White was and is an anti-racism song. What's wrong with that?
Are you stupid? Ian Mackaye isn’t racist... he’s explained multiple times the reason behind the title. You obviously haven’t listened to Fugazi or know nothing about their politics.
Are you serious? He wrote that because he grew up in an area in which white people were the minority. He was bullied and cast out because he was white. The song is anti-racism.
So glad this didn't happen.
I got into punk rock at 16 and was so glad "Soma" was an all ages venue. I had great times there.
Sammy Sosa soma san diego? Same shit if so. Hah
Che Cafe, Queen Bees, LGP... 619/858 represent!
NYC is a prime example of how age limits destroy music scenes. There are only a handful of venues in NY that allow minors to play or attend shows and as a result our once thriving music scene is now dismal at best. Power to youth.
So true. CBGB's is now a fucking Louis Vuitton.
Sorry, stopped by it today. It's actually a John Varvatos. Same bullshit though, even if there's still a lot of stuff on the walls reminiscent of CBGBs.
We use to go overprotective *because* we knew it was a lone outlet for so many kids. Now its a fucking fashion club at best.
@@punkgrl325 varvatos can suck the end of my pistol.
Uhh that's so sad to hear... 😞
Hush mode
Very good points Ian but you are totally wrong about what the problem is. The problem is not the club or the gun. The problem is the individual that was mis-using the gun.
In England few people have guns but you yanks have to keep defending the right to kill each other, some rights are just stupidity.
***** I love so much American culture but the gun thing is crazy
Dam straight....and to think I used to love Minor threat. Never thought Ian was an anti gun pud.
Ruth Barr yes. we are allowed to kill each other. we defend the right to kill each other. when yank kills another person it is not illegal because it is a right. that is the point you are making?
I do not understand why people need guns, yes there are a few illegal guns in the UK but you can go out and not get shot. I think an anti guns stance is hard to understand for Americans but a pro guns stance is very difficult for a British person to understand.
Ian is the fucking man
They don't like violence
i agree with these guys with just about everything Ian Mackaye,Jello Biafra,Henry Rollins but WTF is up with these guys with gun control!!??!!??
They don't like needless death.
Our founding fathers would have supported it.
I am not too sure what UK laws are. However, if there was underage kids in a 18 year old and over club and the underage kid got hurt real bad, the owners of the club would be in a huge legal situation. That's all there is to it. It'd be nice to have an all age club to go to punk rock shows but that's just not how it works. Ian can be pissed of all he wants about it but he's not the owner of any kind of venue or club.
they don't want the age limmit. they want 13 year olds to go to night clubs on their own
im from the uk so laws are different but im 16, iv been involved in mosh pits since i was12/13, yeah iv got hurt but iv had a fucking great time. music is for all, pits are for all. claiming you have to be 18 to get into a pit is moronic
Is it so hard to spell 'you'? Kids from age 10+ need to make decisions for themselves or else they'll become attached and not be able to live by themselves. Plus in moshpits are when people shove into each other not a parking lot brawl.
That's now how it works. fuck are u trolling? Read my comment one more time.
Because everyone from 10-17 years old are all dumb and need people to make decisions for themselves because they're mentally incompetent and until they reach 18 they get this massive boost in intellect and and they unlock independence. from your comment is seems its been a long time since you were 16.
Wow owned sXe minor threat for life
