Shaving Soap Lathering Tutorial - How To Make Thick, Rich, Shaving Lather
*** FYI. I do not own www.DapperShave.com anymore. ***
This is a short tutorial on how to lather shaving soap, brush, and a bowl.
Shaving with a safety razor has become a bit of an obsession for me. Now I look forward to this daily routine. This video is on how to make shaving lather with a shaving brush and shaving soap.
A good quality shaving brush paired with a good quality shaving soap makes a huge difference when shaving with a safety razor. The brush needs to be soft, but firm enough to lather the soap and work into your face stubble. So get yourself a decent boar hair or badger brush. A good quality soap will lather nicely will be slick enough to lubricate your face when shaving, and will not dry out your face. You will know a good soap when your razor glides nicely without skipping on your skin, cutting you at the same time.
Of course, your safety razor and blade combination choice is critical. You can have a great safety razor with a junky blade. Or, you can have a junky safety razor with an awesome blade. Either way, both will result in a terrible shaving experience.
With that said, don't go cheap on the blades or the razor. Have fun exploring, and learning about all your options.
Thanks,
Mark

Sin lugar a dudas, el mejor video que he visto de hacer espuma en un bol con jabón del Betis bueno
Great video
Cool
That’s a ridiculous amount. I’m not even close to that. I’m still new to wet shaving, and have a lot to learn about the process.
Cool hwip
Tried making lather for the first time today, epic failure. Thanks for the video, I'll give this a try tomorrow.
Synergy Shaving Soap
Perfectly done
Damn man that’s a nice set up you got there. Where did you get the porcelain tray from?
The best Shave Brush on the market today is my Simpson Trafalgar's T-3, better then boar cheaper in the long run, it is 29mm. i mic it' it's like buying a $275 Badger hair brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, NO SOAKING, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a Badger Hair or boar can, cheap to buy, I have owned it for 5 Years with no hair loss with no problems wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas
Shave with any bar soap or Mitchell's Wool Fat? Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop. let cool you just went it to congeal' place in the sun, until soap hardens Larry
you don't need animal hair as a good quality synthetic will avoid animal cruelty and in most cases give a better lather experience
That is one legit lather 🧼
the best for me $2.87 Neutrogena Original Amber Bar Facial Cleansing Bar with Glycerin, Clean- put in microwave for 20 seconds ,it will liquify ,pour into shaving bowl , let cool then just use brush to lather .It doesn't promote a big giant foamy face but gives you lubrication and skin protection . after all it is only what is on your skin that affects it not the foam on top of foam $2.87 it will last over a year
Worthless
How much soap - why not show that?
I like your shaving arrangement kit. I am going to copy it.🙂
what make of soap did you use ?
Best video yet of any I have watched!
Which soap do you use?
when beard is crying, This much is not needed 🤦♂️
Where did you pick that brand of soap up at ?, great video👍
awesome vid! what brand of soap are you using
Is there any way we can get the names of the products you were using
Legend has it that this guy has been in the bathroom taking showers and shaving for the past 7 years. Wife is not pleased.
Would irish spring count as "good quality soap"?
What?? I've watched this 3 times.. i can't see where or how he put the soap before kather starts forming?? I have no experience with soaps and wanted to learn in total
I never knew. AWESOME!
I always held the bowl in my hand and never pressed the brush hard. Those were my mistakes. Never again! Thank you.
Hmmmmm.... I was about to start brushing the soap until something happened. I'm glad I took a moment to check.
I MAKE LATHER FROM THE WHITES OF THE EGGS.IT BECOMES FANTASTIC AND A NICE SHAVE
This is like cooking but for men
isn't this lather far too airy and provide little protection
Like everyone else here, I'm now scouring the internet looking for that cool razor stand, bowl, and tray
Excellent vid, like your set up, simple and classy. Great idea to use a tray to keep everything together and off a potentially wet bench. 👍
I’m not sure if it’s the soap I’m using or what but I can get a lather, put it on my face, it goes on nice and white but by the time I’m about 1/3 done with the shave, it all just kind of disappears and gets sticky almost
I ordered some of this fancy shave lather, brush, a straight razor, and a safety razor, because I wanna be more manly and also save money from the crap cartridge companies, idk if they’re cuts or not but there’s just some bleeding spots. Maybe cause it was my first time with a single blade. I finished off with the safety razor lol. one thing I noticed is the lather didn’t stay on my face long and I’m not sure if it’s because I got shaving soap, or what. I figure I’d watch a video for some help
I use a safety razor and I always do 2 passes because it feels like it's pulling at the hairs on the first pass. The second always feels a lot smoother. I have the same problem you have, the lather doesn't seem to stay on my face for long and it's like it dries out. I'm not sure if it's how I make my lather or the blade but I changed it last time I shaved. One thing I'm pleased with though is I've only cut myself once lol
@@Nobody-471 i figured out that I was using shaving soap and not shaving cream, but not that Gillette stuff. One of those little cans or something, get it on the brush with a little water and later it into the bowl, it works much better. I’ve got a beard back though but when I was shaving, the cream worked much better. The one I got is called the art of shaving and it’s in a black container, lavender scented. Also if it’s pulling the hairs the blade may be dull, also try to keep the angle right
@@dudders___1684 I normally use this cream I have. It's a brand called Leponix, it's sandalwood scented and I also have a puck of soap. I can't remember the brand, Barberia, or something like that and it's lemon scented. But I get the same problem whichever one I use. I soak my brush in warm water then I squeeze the water out before I make the lather. I wonder if my water needs to be warmer or I'm squeezing too much water out of the brush. I'll try changing the blade, too. Thanks
@@Nobody-471 I love sandalwood scented stuff! Also another thing you may like is they make straight razor type razors that you can change the blade in. When I shave it change the razor about every two shaves because after that it feels like it’s pulling. That’s why I recommended changing the blade on your safety razor, it all just really depends on how thick your facial hair is
Are you just rinsing the lather off of your soap puck, and air drying?
Huge volume way too much water.
I subbed in case you ever decide to make another video
Dont soak your brush in HOT water do it in WARM you will ruin it ober time.
this is awesome
Can i keep the lather in the bowl until its empty or do i have to remove it after every shave
You've got to dump it. The lather won't stay that long.
@@Culper723 thanks
What is brand is that shaving soap? Plz post link.
I can't get that much lather for the life of me. I'm redipping my brush multiple times and having to make more cream.
You gotta play with the soap to water ratio. I used to think it was about adding more soap but I found I was actually needing more water and more time whipping it if I wanted to get those giant bowls of lather.
What soap is that?
Where’d you learn to move your wrist that fast in that direction?
I love♥️ bowl🥣 lathering because with proper technique I am able to produce a huge amount of shaving foam🍚 within 60 seconds⌛ just from an almond size shaving cream💈🖍️ Hence, wastage 🚮of shaving cream is far ⬇️less.
Just got my 1st safety razor and 1st shave brush with soap...this was perfect!
What made you make the switch
@@bmw_m4255 cost honestly
The most useful lathering video I’ve seen. Clear, concise, informative. Particularly helpful explanation of when to know the lather is ready to use. And a relief to know that the lathering process can be done in a few minutes. Thank you.
