The person on horseback is a guard in this role protecting the King, not a gunner.

These photos are quite boring. If I would be able to make a visit to London, I would have a special setting in mind. Me, cleaning the "Do not touch"-sign with a little cleaning rag and the kings guard is behind me. We could see him or her in profile. No touching, no annoyed horse and soldier, a little reminder to respect boundaries, an unusual photograph....and a clean sign. :-)

How long does a shift with the horse actually last? It is not the nature of the horse to stand in the same place for hours and why are horse and rider not better protected from the brazen tourists

This is why one of the signs need to be on both sides...stupid people don't look.. Guides need to tell the people don't touch the horse and don't go in box.

Why is it necessary to thrust forward a leg when posing? It's a tourist attraction not a fashion show.

The impression is given that these horses are not particularly well trained as regards coming into contact with people and strange situations. Very jumpy. Whereas the police horses are unphased in any situation.
