First half clear and on for a PB, sadly even a small amount of traffic bleeds those seconds away.......

Nurburgring Group Lap - Pinderwagen & GT4 MR & GT3 RS MR

12th July 2022, Ringmeisters (Destination Nurburgring) Track Day. The three of us have been driving the Nurburgring for as long as we can remember. We decided to stick together to get some 3 car footage. Solo flying laps are great, but nothing beats social trackday laps with friends :)
Internet celebrity day, a blast around the 'ring with Nigel of Pinderwagon fame.

5:30 in - a bloody good example of why safe overtaking is the responsibility of the faster car behind. Would have been so easy to assume his move right was an indication to overtake but that would have been an accident.

Nurburgring GT3 RS MR 6:59 BTG. Finally sub 7 !!
มุมมอง 5933 ปีที่แล้ว
Only wanted to achieve one thing this year, a sub seven BTG. After a morning learning where time could be lost or gained with a VBOX predictive lap timer, had a stab and oosh! Get in there, just :) Its a 991.2 GT3 RS MR, fantastic piece of kit.
X5M Competition 1st Lap
มุมมอง 15K3 ปีที่แล้ว
First lap of 2021, first time X5 has ever been on track, so was taking it carefully through the corners, she has a big ol ass. As its a quality VIRB pos, the sync between speed and video is out a little and GPS drops I think.
DN24 GT3 RS Lap Battle

Does track provide insurance for this?
Nope

BMW X5 M Competition still the BEST AND TOP
its on stock suspension?
Yep
Speedo is all over the place Nevertheless very impressive
Diesel forever!
X5M is petrol, I did have a M50d which was an excellent power plant but v8 twin turbo next level:)

No le cojes ni de coña😂😂😂😂 buena vuelta👌🏻👌🏻
Great lap esp with traffic … I was there that day and you went a lot faster than me in 992 GT3 , loving the Manthey setup ❤
Back for the next DN in a month and a halfs time.....with slightly revised geo and new tyres so we'll see how that goes. If you only buy one thing for your 992, get the manthey suspension as thats the biggest aspect of their kit in terms of the stability and confidence in the car.
Yes was thinking just that@@leechristie and not going whole hog 👌
“Probably best experience of my whole…” I’m guessing, “7mins, because I also went out in a 4RS with a much better driver”
Jeez, only just seen this comment. Would that be the 4RS with stock suspension that requires a visit to the dentist afterwards ?
I believe so because even stock, they managed to hit the apex at the hairpin after t13
I'm getting one of these. So excited!
This MX5 is now up for sale actually, just haven't gotten round to doing an advert. 285bhp bombproof reliability with ohlins suspension and professional appleplay/amp/speaker install. Plus the bride seats and rails, big brakes etc etc
I think you're missing a pedal.
heh I'm not sure what you mean. Porsche with PDK ?
@Lee Christie Lol, I'm just messing with you. PDK is better for track but I'd prefer the 7 speed manual myself.
Just realized that the GT3 isn't even offered as a manual. My bad lol. I'm thinking of the GT4.
@@TripedalTroductions Its a spot on analysis. If I had a GT3 for road / touring drives then yes a blip through mountains and tunnels with a manual is very engaging. On track, esp on 7 min BTG laps there is so much going on that you're not missing anything and its safer. I have experience ! Mis-selected the wrong gear at Muttcurve and wrote off an E46. My driver error, but wouldn't have happened with a PDK (SMG - I went on to buy a CSL)
is the speedo delayed in bottom left?
yeah its a sports camera (garmin virb) and the sync between video and gps position is terrible.
Nice driving pal 👌. How you getting the braking output from the OPD 2 port for the overlay ?? What is the setup please as looking to do that with mine
Hello, if you are asking how to get all of this overlay data on a VBOX from OBD2 - you cannot. You need to buy the CAN bus reader (clip-on to avoid wire cutting and warranty) and work out which 2 wires from a thousand it is under the dash lol. I can post a pic if you want to try.
yes please if you could let me know and also what contactless CAN reader you use @@leechristie
@@chrishart5474 Hi Chris. There is so much complexity to this that I'm going to make a video. I'm adding tyre temperature monitoring to my car along with HDMI so I think I'll be using all ports, all functionality etc. Watch this space.
@@leechristie yes please do Lee, and you run everything through Vbox CAN interface?? I’ve seen TH-cam vid on the temp monitoring, be good on long track days at Ring and Spa. Will that run through the CAN interface as well ?
@@chrishart5474 The tyre temp system is a CAN output. As is the racelogic clip on CAN bus reader. You cannot simply plug these into a splitter, so racelogic also sell a nice cheap £500 CAN gateway, Wait for my video, I have a large wiring diagram showing all the modules, the cables (codes) and what goes where.
Hey Lee The footage are really good, may i ask what your settings you use for your camera? Its really mind blowing compared to other action cameras. The sensation of speed is really really good.
Hi - still playing around but laughably you need to turn off all of the "realtime" features like motion flow stabilisation. On the bends you can see the camera kinda flowing left and right, the bonnet bobbing, its crap. Choose a narrow view. Recent videos are better. My VBOX records video plus the data overlay and the Insta360 One RS the 4K footage. I then use a mask and chop out the vbox video for the 4k whilst keeping the overlay.
@@leechristie Thanks a lot for your response. I use a different cam (Osmo action) so i was curious about your settings on your cam, to try it out on my own. I'm heading for a trackday in a few hours and will then try play a little with the cam.
Grade A driving in a grade A ///M car 🚙
Insane how you reel them in from Lauda Links to Carousel. 🏁🏆🥇
Comments on here are hilarious, it's a gt3rs
Did you even watch the video ? Look at the car in front........
@@leechristie the rs isn't even trying
@@rinkydinky78 I think it would be best if you didn't comment on videos. You didn't watch it, haven't read the description. The video is simply to illustrate how capable a supercharged MX-5 is. The GT3 is following, just to capture video.
I breathed in @6:30 🫣
Haha already educated Neil on left vs right :)
Great video merging the three cars footage. Best I’ve seen for ages. Chrono clocks in the Porsches need a black disc designed to cover their reflection? 🏁🏆🥇
Nope. Racelogic (VBOX) Need to offer different lenses, their current (and only!) offering is super wide. I have since sorted out my Insta360 One RS to have a narrow FOV with no motion stabilisation and its spot on. Septembers videos will be better :)
Great driving Lee! 👍 Think I let you past me on one of my laps. You were faster, and slowly creeping up on me, so I didnt want to hold you up. Had to sacrifice a pretty good lap doing so though 😅
Aha ! So you was driving the 1,000,000 horsepower GTR. Took a while to reel you in, but got there in the end. Tried to find you in the carpark after to ask about your car :)
@@leechristie Lol, I laughed when I read that, love it. 🤣✌️ But I guess this is one of few GTR's that has more money spent in the chassis-department, rather that the engine. Nice to hear that man, I'd love to have a chat. Maybe next year, I see you've registered already. 👍
I like how you can’t pass that cayman 🦧
The GT4 is my brother, I said I'd follow him for a lap to get some decent footage.
Total lie. You needed to be shown the ideal line before using the extra 100bhp
You & Neil can certainly peddle them well too buddy
amazing driving
Nice drive. That damp pavement would make me nervous.
What tieres on?
The car comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s as standard. Note that just one lap (and I was not pushing it hard at all) saw the temperatures get to 80 degrees C. This car would not be capable of multiple back to back laps without destroying the tyres.
Great video, especially planing to go for the first time in my X5 M50d this March. So it's reassuring to watch your lap.
If you mean its your first time at the Nurburgring, I would hire a suzuki swift from Rent4Ring. An X5 is a nightmare to drive at the 'ring due to massive weight transfer...I've been going for 15 years so I would hope I know what I'm doing by now ;-)
@@leechristie yeah it will be my first time at the Ring ever.. Hehehe but super keen to use my own car otherwise just think it kind of defeats the whole purpose. If I drive super cautious and slow?
@@lequnsu4689 All first drives should be cautious and slow :) However, if its wet, do not drive in your X5. When the wet the track has almost zero grip on the dry lines and if you go across these the X5 will easily slide out and wont stop until you hit the barrier. Here's my old M50d in the wet : th-cam.com/video/JF5vKhKLuVg/w-d-xo.html
@@leechristie cheers, really appreciate it! Hopefully the UK and French border is open soon.
An X5M or M comp has a different suspension, dampening and braking system that a normal X5 50d etc.. so if it’s difficult for an M to handle, a non M will have a really tough time.
Great lap Lee
Pretty fucking awesome mate. Some lap that. 🥇👌🏻🏆😎
Even its a big car it can go in corners as a small one :)
Lauda links is flat in any car… weak
Sure does shift! Bigger balls than I!
2.5or 2.0 supercharged, which would you pick? Thinking the 2.5 might be "lumpy" whereas the 2.0 has better revability ?I'm running a prht auto, with ohlins etc, its a great car.😎
Would be good to see more of the mx5
Great footage, is there a reason you're not hitting the brakes straight away ? You should press the pedal harder in the earliest moment of breaking
‘The brakes are shit ‘ . Head of research at Porsche pulls a face.
Awesome! What seat rails are you using in the NC bud?
Bride seats and bride rails. Imported em via perfectrun and saved a fortune.
How can I found your brother in facebook? I have goot same kit
Nice! If you happen to have any footage of my car I would love to have it! I have some footage of a GT3 in this video: th-cam.com/video/OjtpsZYIqJM/w-d-xo.html Maybe it is yours.
That's me me at 3:55. You are seriously moving.
some of the corners seem slow; acceleration and straight speed make up the difference. early into Kallenhard ?
3:15, he says we're going to try an early turn in.......
Okay , thanks. which type do you think is better? My coach said late turn in and stay to outside; much earlier on gas. but he is a bike guy; Andy Carlile, what does he know. I got the late entry right a few times, but mostly middle entry kind of.
Love the power slides onto the back straight 👍
Brakes just slow you down..... ;0)
