Luyak (A Children's Short Story in Na'vi)
Some more comprehensible input for you all! This is a short story about Luyak of the Tawkami, who has a day of learning with her mother.
As always, do not worry about understanding everything. The more you listen, the more you learn.
Art by Eana Unil, Ollympian, and me.

    Why at 5:34 isn't there a ngey in the first sentence? Is it just implied because of the one in the second sentence?

      @@NoPersona Tìpawm asìltsan! The context is already there from Lo'ak's words, which Neteyam is responding to. "He's my brother!" (Would have been "Po lu oey(ä) tsmukan.") Na'vi relies on context often. It would not be wrong to use ngey(ä), but oey-ngey-ngey isn't so idiomatic, and the heated dialog was short and snappy.

      @@NoPersona When the context is clear and/or you're speaking informally, things get shortened. So two brothers arguing? Srane. I also translated as if dubbed, to match the amount of speaking, so nothing is overly long as it wouldn't fit the scene. 🙂

    Why in "tse'a tìk yawne" did they not use tìyawn?

    • @NeytiriTeTskaha
      @NeytiriTeTskaha 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's an expression, literally "see, (then) immediately beloved." The meaning is that as soon as you've seen the person they have become beloved (yawne) to you, which is how we express loving/falling in love since there is no verb for it. (Tìyawn is the noun "love.")

    Hello, one question: How long did it take you to fully learn the Na'vi language?

    • @NeytiriTeTskaha
      @NeytiriTeTskaha 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you mean being able to have conversations, I guess weeks to about 3 months, getting better always. But it was so long ago it's difficult to remember, and the language is frequently growing, so there is always more to learn. I think this is true even among the Sky People... languages are always changing. 😉

    this video is so good omg, can you explain what the words inside the "<>" mean though? irayo ma 'eylan!

    • @NeytiriTeTskaha
      @NeytiriTeTskaha ปีที่แล้ว

      Kaltxì, ma 'eylan! <> indicates an infix, which is a bit of grammar for a verb. There are many types and they give different layers of meaning to the word (they are not words themselves), such as tense. For example, kivä is k<iv>ä; it's kä ("go") with the infix <iv> inside it, which adds the sense of "may" to it-"may go". Hope that helps!
