    Hi Jared Can you help or advise me or anybody reading this who use Apple. I have an iPad 4th generation which works perfect and I’ve done all my photography work in that the past few years. Recently I’ve purchased a MacBook M2. What I’ve noticed is, when I use Lightroom in my MacBook the pictures are not the same tone/colour as when I use Lightroom on the iPad. I’m so used to editing in the iPad. Do you have any suggestions to match the tones up ? Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 Andrew

    • @jaredcollins-photo
      @jaredcollins-photo 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A few possible factors, here. 1 is screen brightness, if they aren’t a similar brightness levels, that will also affect how you see the colors on this screens. The other is the tru-tone or night shift setting that may possibly be causing some differences between the 2. It’s also possible that the iPad display has fallen a bit out of calibration due to age, but I’d check on the first 2 possibilities first

      @@jaredcollins-photo The 2nd did help a bit in fairness with the night shift mode but there is still a bit of a difference. The iPad seems a bit more blue (Tru-Tone and the MacBook more greenish if you get me. Can if fix the calibration in any way? Could be because of age. What would you do? I’m so used to working with the iPad and Lightroom. My iPad only has 64bg and I have to keep deleting photos and videos off for it to work. I’m trying to get my head around the best way of workflow. Thanks for helping and answering my question. Andrew

    I sold my A73 and purchased a Fujifilm X-H2s for its 14 stops of dynamic range and variety of color as a means of having something that comes close to my 5D3 with ML and Dane's build, only with IBIS and A/F. I got their three top lenses 18mm 33mm and 56mm, along with a few SIRUI anamorphic that all come with f1... apertures. I even got an adapter for my EF lenses. The picture quality on modern Fuji and Sony doesn't come close to what the 5D3 produces in filmic quality. A recurring customer is a singer songwriter who now demands the 5D3 on set when recording sessions with him. Sadly, the 5D3 is useless for any non-static shots. It stays on a tripod at all times. I will give the Fujifilm the edge on still image quality just based on the option to load custom film recipe's. The magic from the 5D3 and 5D2 is completely absent in the RF Canon lineup. The RF cameras are super sharp and nail detail, but lack any iotta of character.

    • @jaredcollins-photo
      @jaredcollins-photo 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I can agree. Honestly, I think almost ALL of the modern cameras are a bit "too sharp" for my preference. There's a very pleasing softness (but not un-sharp) that comes out of the 5diii. Like I said, I still use mine often today on client work. They're still a great value, especially for someone who's just getting started in photography.

If you are in wedding biz... get a Canon R5M2. It's worth the upgrade from R5. The R5M2 eye tracking and facial recognition/tracking would give you the confidence to charge the big bucks.

    How do I edit using the smart previews if I disconnected my external drive and when I try to open LRC it keeps saying the Lightroom catalog was not found (my external drive is not connected) so how do I edit my smart previews without the external drive not being connected? I’m so confused

    External display for smartphone camera: I found a way to connect another smartphone to my smartphone via cable and mirror the screen. This means I can control the image section in every perspective and take selfies with the main camera. Data connection between camera smartphone and display smartphone: USB-C to HDMI ... HDMI to USB-C Capture card + USB Camera app. Mechanical connection with 2 screwed and tiltable mobile phone holders. Works great.

    Good video Jared and thanks, I've fallen down the buying presets rabbit hole back when I first started, then gave them up all together. Your video has got me thinking about them again and, as you suggest, creating my own for my workflow - though I couldn't resist a try out with your freebie preset🙂

      They really are a GREAT tool when used properly. They give you consistent starting points and save a lot of time on the up front. As a professional, I use them every time I edit a set of images. The free preset is one that I love throwing on top of my iPhone images in LR Mobile. It gives them a nice punch and elevates them just a smidge!

    Wish I’d heard this way earlier in my photography journey. You hit the nail on the head as to why it kinda falls flat when someone says it’s not the gear (when they have all the gear). Great to hear explained this way and great to see someone trying to get through to new photographers in a way that they might actually listen to

    • @jaredcollins-photo
      @jaredcollins-photo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really appreciate your input there. That's exactly what I was trying to do was show that, yes gear does matter, but with the proper knowledge and skills, you can get great results with "lesser" gear.

    Jared -- great video, buddy! Consise and super informational. I wish more new photographers would spend more time in this LrC space. Such a wonderful tool. Like you, I don't import from the SD card, nor do I store any photos on the PC itself. I copy the shots to one of the external drives, and then "import" from there. My culling is a little different -- I start with a flag, pure and simple -- if the image makes the first cut, I flag it. From there I cull the flagged shots with stars, as you do. Couple other things I find helpful is at the time of importing it's easy to import a second copy of the images to your backup drive. Doing it at the same time helps prevent forgetting later. Another thing I stress is that when you're setting up those import requirements, it's also a great time to fill out the copyright info panel. From there, your copyright is on every image - culled keepers and originals. If you complete your copyright info you only have to do it once. From there, put a check in the box if you want your copyright used on every import. Fun fact, you can have multiple copyrights -- a personal one; a business one; etc and use them accordingly as needed. I'm glad you mentioned collections too! In the early days I didn't take full advantage so it was much more difficult to find a particular set of shots as my practice grew. Now I have collections for everything -- and -- collections within a collection. Parent collection = Models; sub collection would be each model and date photographed within the parent. Parent collection = Weddings -- sub collection would be each wedding within a calendar year, etc ...To your point about solo mode, I find using a parent-child collections strategy helps keep the left side clean too because you can collapse to the parent level. Again - thanks man, this was a great video - and serves as a reference video. I will save this and offer it to the new photographers I see regularly. All the best!

      @jaredcollins-photo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That collection organization is super well thought out! I like that methodology a lot! I know a lot of people today use AI to cull for them, but I still like doing it myself, personally
