    I also use the regular strap over my gator even if I’m using mud straps, that way I can see it easily when going through mud, and the person behind me can keep an eye on my boots. I love the gators!

      @northerncalifornia4531 You got that right. Unfortunately, this kind of abuse goes on in every breed. I raised Quarter and Paint horses for a few years. At first, I was naive to the evil trainers and people who allowed this to go on. As time went by, I was very vocal against it and didn't care who heard me. We had good horses, but it seemed I started to get black balled in the placings at shows. Hmm, I wonder why. Everything is political, even horse shows. Because I couldn't stand the thought of my babies possibly going to bad homes I got out of it. I still have 6 horses I don't need, but I won't sell them, for fear of where they would go. 🐎 ❤️❤️

    O.M.G. Your horse's concave soles are gorgeous!!! Got a really good look at the right. I had hoped that after being barefoot for awhile my horse's feet would get like that. They're OK, but not like THAT :)

      @heartlandscootboots5173 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It does take time and directed effort. Diet is crucial as is a proper tim that does not include using a knife on the sole which only further thins it. Another key point is to keep the foot nice and tight. Allowing the toe to become long and the heels to run forward also thins the sole as it must now protect more surface are than it was designed to.

    • @epona9166
      @epona9166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heartlandscootboots5173 I've never had a farrier who didn't scrape the sole with a knife, so that could be part of it. If I were much younger I'd consider learning to do the trimming myself, but it's too late for that; and switching farriers is easier said than done. I'm curious what you recommend diet-wise that would have a bearing on this. My two geldings are both around 16, not hard to keep weight on. They get some alfalfa, but more grass hay than alfalfa. And some feed called Triple Crown Senior once/day. I started that when I was trying to get a powdered antibiotic into one horse and just kept it up.

    • @heartlandscootboots5173
      @heartlandscootboots5173 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people will use both however with properly fitting mud straps pastern straps are not necessary. Some users will actually remove the pastern strap knobs altogether and use mud straps exclusively.

  • @epona9166
    @epona9166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi -- I don't understand why you don't just use the Scoot Boot endurance gaiters. Unless they didn't make them when you did this video. Doesn't seem ideal to put the bottom pad only partially covering the bottom of the boot; without it being shaved back like a shim.

    • @heartlandscootboots5173
      @heartlandscootboots5173 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The endurance gaiters add some time and effort to put on compared with the trail gaiters and for most people, the included trail gaiters work perfectly for their needs. When using endurance gaiters in a lot of mud and water, they also will not dry out. So, for me, I don’t like the entire pastern being wet for a long, wet ride unless I actually have a specific situation that requires the extra protection. I ride lots of miles every year and rarely need to use the endurance gaiters. They work great if you have a situation you need them for but I tend to be a minimalist. Part of the beauty of Scoot Boots is the easy of use and the minimal effort required. As always, the more extras you add the more effort required and if you don’t need them, no need to add that to your set up.

      @@heartlandscootboots5173 I appreciate the background info. I’ve been watching a lot of scoot boots videos the past few days, and just ordered front boots for one of my horses. He has had renegades on the front and does ok but trainer thinks the closed fronts are affecting his break over and they’re kind of a pain to put on him. So the scoots should help w that. My other horse does fine in the renegades and they go on easily so staying with them for him. I don’t ride nearly as much as you do and would never need the endurance gaiters myself. I hope what they call their trail gaiters keep the scoot boots from rubbing in the back. Seems like they would be uncomfortable without those. Tx for your response.

  • @Grushenke89

    This is good to know- I keep thinking mine are too tight- but I can fit that one finger behind. He does stumble a tiny bit in the boots but nothing compared to before. I put the gaiters on just because I feel like they are still more comfy that way even if then they are snugger- but still can squeeze that finger in.

    • @heartlandscootboots5173
      @heartlandscootboots5173 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always recommend using the padded gaiter. If the boots are performing well and there is no irritation, you’ve got the right size and fit.

  • @ashleykerridge8776

    Those endurance gators are not put on properly at all. They are way too high and twisted.

    • @marinaradiskovic5621
      @marinaradiskovic5621 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe they were put properly, but as she said, the horse has odd hind legs, and has a strange way of going (twisting his legs). She just finished a ride, and that's how the gaiters end up to be.

    • @renee1741
      @renee1741 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I wonder if using the shim in the back would also help keep the boots from twisting. Also, I got the endurance gaiters but I find them hard to apply. It would help if they velcroed to the sole of the boot or they made the bottom part as large as the boot sole so they’d stay in place while you’re putting the boot on.

    Either you have different mud straps, or you have exceptional strong fingers, or you have a trick you didn't tell us? It is almost impossible to feed the bottom strap through the tight holes, the plastic is very sticky and the fit too tight. It totally get stuck and you'll kneel precariously under your horse panting and swearing and half in tears. Than you'll chuck the boot against the wall. And put the the shoes on without that invention from hell and plan in the time you'll need to find the flying shoe again... :(((

      Scoot Boots are my favorite. I did try flex boots as an experiment. I liked almost everything about them but the durability was a real issue. I wore through the toe in 6 total rides....all at a walk. The same horse has been using the same Scoot Boots for almost 2 years. I can’t recommend flex boots based off my personal experience with them.

    I do have concerns that the bulb straps are too tight. I have sent pics and video to the rep and they tell me that they fit. I have put three short rides with new Scoots on the front, <20min, and my horse is now foot sore and slightly lame. Is this common?

    • @crusty466
      @crusty466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same! My mare’s Scoot Boots fit the same as the new boots in this video and I chucked my mare’s front Scoots on (without Gaitors though) and let her wear them just standing around in the paddock for a couple hours, when I went to check them she had a big red sore that was bleeding rubbed into the back of her heel bulb..

  • @MagicMoonShine
    @MagicMoonShine 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Stacy. I have been using these gaiters for a while and they're working great but I put the little pad all the way under the foot. If the hard plastic was up on the heel bulb wouldn't it rub? I think this video was put up a while ago so I'm just curious if you have had any issues with rubbing.

  • @epona9166
    @epona9166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was expecting there to be a bottom line to this video. Either look how they stretch but they are still wearable and won't fall off or rub the horse in the heel bulb area. Or look how they stretch over time and when they get to this point, better start over.

    • @heartlandscootboots5173
      @heartlandscootboots5173 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Epona, This video was to help clients determine if the fit they are seeing is correct. This video has been extremely helpful in that regard. The bottom line here is that fit appears slight different in new and used boots in the same size. It that does not affect their performance. It is also imperative for clients to remember they should not size up for “growing room” in a new pair of boots as they may be too large later, at the beginning of a fresh trim cycle.

    • @heartlandscootboots5173
      @heartlandscootboots5173 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Epona, Also, this particular horse has used this size boot for 3 years. Used boots do not fall off and new boots do not rub. These are not issues with property sized/fitted boots.
