Welcome to my homestead on 2 acres in the high desert of Arizona in zone 7/8. I’m not new to gardening, but new to this growing zone and I will be sharing our journey here on this channel. I will be building a new garden area here and sharing all the highs and lows. I will also share garden to table recipes, with some food preserving and just a little bit of our life.
Grab a seat and thanks for hanging out with me.

Garden Salsa
My garden is still producing a lot of tomatoes and peppers so I made another batch of what I like to call “Jens garden salsa”

Coffee bar and chalk wall for my large cup collection
มุมมอง 2114 วันที่ผ่านมา
This collection started over 12 years ago and we went a little bit bigger on this coffee bar so I could display all my mugs that I’ve collected over the years. I love how it turned out with the stained wood and pipe. It has a rustic look. #coffeebardecor #coffeebar #coffeewall #diy #houseprojects #arizonalife
Composting made easy
มุมมอง 32หลายเดือนก่อน
I love talking about compost! Composting doesn’t have to be hard and it can be done several ways and even in small spaces. I’m really loving my composter that sits on my kitchen counter. It’s quick and easy and with 24 hours you can have a nice amendment to add to your garden. Vego garden was kind enough to send me one and if you want to add one to your kitchen I have a discount code of Doubleh...
Vego Kitchen Composter

The Vego-composter is turning my kitchen waste into a garden amendment that my garden and my worms will love. I feel like lately all I’ve been doing is talking about compost but I love the fact that its garden to table and then back to the garden. You reduce so much waste and my garden and worms love it. I have a discount code if you want to get yourself one and start composting! There’s a link...

Thanks for sharing this tip. I was wondering if a dutch oven can be still used when looking like the second one, the old one. We have one that looks exactly like yours. It belonged to my mom-in-law who passed away no long ago...and I don't want to get rid of it because it reminds me of the times she cooked her delicious meals for us. Is it safe to use it? Thank you.
@@elseyb9502 You’re very welcome. I still use mine all the time. It’s hard to get rid of them.
amazing!
@@rafa.pkxowbdidj Thank you
That is so cool! Im so happy for you!
@@ZacharyBluestein-kx7fz Thank you. I was so excited
I just mixed vinegar and water sprayed all around my bedroom and my bed. Found a couple spiders in my bed I freaked out! 😂 And yes I have cleaned thoroughly underneath my bed all around my bedding it done no good...🤷so hopefully they hate vinegar so I can sleep tonight.😊
@@Gypsy4U yikes I would have freaked out too.
@@Doublehacres I haven't seen any spiders in my bed since I sprayed...
@@Gypsy4U Oh that’s good
I'm watching from Morocco 🇲🇦 thank you very much
@@touriatouria2449 You’re welcome
Thank you!
Am watching from Alaska. The demonstration on how to jar n diced tomatoes are well processed.
Nice video. This looks tasty. I'm going to have to give it a try. I love homemade salsa.
Me too, it tastes so much better than store bought and so fresh
So does she lie a lot or something?
I grew a bunch of tomatillos this year ❤
You’re going to have to try making salsa. I grew them just to make salsa
@@Doublehacres I was just wondering what I could make with them when I came across your video ❤️ Seems simple enough to do and delicious ❤️ TH-cam was reading my mind 😆❤️
Actually looks great
Thank you
Thank you
As a Mexican that looks delicious and i would drink that like soup
That’s funny you say that, I wanted to tip the bowl just like soup 😊
@@Doublehacres so nutritious
This is perfect for kickoff of football season 12-14 tomatillos 3-4 roma tomatoes 3 serranos 2 jalapeño’s (or more if you want hotter). Its what I had on hand 4-5 cloves of garlic 1/2 onion 1 tsp chicken boullion Salt Garlic powder 1/2 water Add all to blender and add cilantro and juice of one lime. So dang good
Can you use it to make alcohol?
I LOVEEEE TUNASSS
We have those here but they look yellow or green
@@sneakypeak331 I had seen a lot of green and yellow ones, I had to go up a little higher in elevation and those ones were all ripe. Last year all the pears were horrible
Did not know they were even edible!😮
They are a little bit sweet when they are really ripe
Pick w tongs or pliers stickershurt.... prwttt good tojust eat also...........
Oh yeah you definitely have to use tongs, those stickers hurt
Tunaaassss
What does it taste like? Is it sweet? That’s pretty cool btw!
@@LCee7 They are a little bit sweet especially the ripe ones. They say they can have a cucumber watermelon taste but I never get that. It has a flavor all on its own for sure.
I like eating them
Did you squish em under your boot ?
Yes I did and my chickens like them too.
Diatomaceous earth ....it's non poison and will kill most insects. It will not harm your plants.
Awh you seem like a sweet woman :)
Shit looks fire asf
looks sooo yum!
Thank you
I love this update!! ❤❤
@@brittseverydaylife7952 Thanks, I can’t wait for you to see it
love the eco friendly spider repllent! w/ the chickens (good source of nitrogen) you are prime to setup a good composting area to feed all those vegetable planters :). Fantastic stuff
@@kevindesai3176 I’m planning on setting up a composting area soon.
I am 71 and I still want stuff. But I have let go of some but replace. So now I go shopping in my storage building.
I know it’s so hard to part with stuff. It’s funny when I’m going through things, I’m like oh I forgot I had that. 😊
I love it when lazy people actually have to do some work! It’s so funny listening to them complain, specially about the temperature!
Why would you make such a rude comment? Clearly, they aren't lazy.
I've thought about moving but my 30 years of getting my yard just the way I want is what holds me back.
Oh I bet that would be hard. That’s the hardest part is starting over on the yards and garden.
@@Doublehacres I haven't watched your channel before but it’s going to be wonderful to see how you are able to set up the new space.
@@AkSonya1010 Thank you so much. Still trying to get better in front of a camera while documenting all our changes. It’s fun to go back and look at all the progress.
Looks like you are in Cochise County like me.❤

Don’t rustle with the bag so much while speaking

I give it to compost or chicken.
When I have a full bag, I’ll compost the rest of them.
Why cause harm to animals when we do not need to.
Children were probably harmed to make the phone you're using. Chemicals were pumped into the air, trees were cleared and birds killed to make room for the factory. There is no way to avoid animal death, in this case she is using the most of the animal by using the bones most people would throw out.
why cause harm to other humans if we do not need to
@@Queen.Maddie.09 My question is inclusive of yours. Why did you find the need to remove the other animals from the question?
You’re welcome
wow! great tip thank you!
You’re welcome
I love your delivery and time. It was o soothing.😊
Thank you
Hi, how do you bring it back?
I think I did a video on it. Let me find it
Will any dehydrated work. I have a round one.
@@robertatorres2860 I bet it will. I’ve just air dried it.
❤❤❤❤
Did you have to build this?
It comes in panels with all the hardware. I think originally they came in pieces and you had to put together each piece. It arrived on a large pallet.
Awesome tour! I was just looking into this coop and just didn't feel I could see enough from the online photos. This really helped me better understand the size of this setup and whether or not it would fit my needs. Thank you!
You bet! Glad it helped you. It’s been a year since we set up the coop and we still love it.
From my perspective (take it with a grain of salt), the old one looks dark at the bottom because the enamel is being worn away and the cast iron is showing through. Happened to my parent's dutch oven, but they're still happy with it.
It’s my older one and it’s mainly used for sourdough baking bread every week. It’s been abused 😊
Thanks for sharing.
