    CrItical Duty is designed for BARRIER PENETRATION (NOT ARMOR) and partial expansion, Critical Defense is designed for sub compact and compact pistols with a reliable expansion and to avoid over penetration. You can watch the video from Hornady talking about their design and ideal purpose.

    The 12-16" standard on Gel was set for pistol rounds. Still relatively applicable to shotgun shells, as theyre in the same velocity range (rifle rounds are a much different matter) but being short on penetration from a shotgun shell isn't a bad thing. It means every ounce of energy that shell puts into a target, stays in that target. While I prefer 00 Buck for a defensive situation, #4 buck shouldn't be counted out. It still dumps a ton of energy, has a slightly larger pattern than 00 buck, and generally won't penetrate external walls in a home.

    I've always thought that a Ruger 10-22 or 22 Charger if you prefer "not a rifle"s would make an excellent home defense gun for people living in apartments when loaded with CCi Mini Mags or Velocitors. Federal Punch just makes me think that it would be ideal for anyone. It'll penetrate adequately with a clean shot to a baddie, especially out of a rifle, but that lightweight bullet wont go through your whole house and into the neighbor's house with enough energy to still be truly dangerous if you miss. Barrier Blind loads always kinda made me nervous which is why I never felt good using them for home defense. For carry where you may need to shoot sonething thats trying to run you over with their car or something, sure, carry barrier blind stuff, but for HD, I dont like them. Thats why I prefer to run number 4 buck through my shotgun that I keep for HD, but I wouldn't feel undergunned with a 10-22 with a 25 round mag full of Federal Punch at all.

    It’s my experience that most rounds tend to overshoot their normal (calibrated organic gel) depths in clear synthetic gel. On average it comes out to about 1.5 inches with most JHPs and 2-4 inches with FMJs. I don’t know which would be more analogous(if either) to the weird “X” tip of the Lehigh bullet but I suspect that 19.5 inches is still acceptable, if either hollows or ball ammo are anything to go on. The synthetic stuff is less temperature sensitive but it seems to be more slippery or something.

    • @TheKalkara131
      @TheKalkara131 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wmski88 obviously, I don't know the real reasons the FBI scientists and doctors chose that number. Some reasons I've heard before are because you can't control the situations around your threat. He might present you with a nice, perfect frontal shot. But your bullet might also have to go up and through an arm if he's pointing a weapon at you. Could be angled to the side, could be winter and he's wearing a lot of layers. You can't control any of it, and if your chosen load doesn't penetrate deep enough, you may be in trouble. You can't control what state of mind he may be in, on drugs, full of adrenaline, drunk, psychotic, etc. He may not care that you have a gun, that you shot him. He may not be feeling pain at all, so you have to penetrate deep enough to hit vital organs. There's also the fact that penetration in ballistics gel 1:1 with penetration in a human body. Gel is all one material, the human body is heterogeneous. It's made up of fat, muscle, tendon, bone, tissues with various resilience. 14" in gel, doesn't necessarily equate to 14" in a human body.

      @TheKalkara131 how do you not understand penetration? If the target has plates and full face/helm protection..... you telling me you don't see the reason?

    I feel like it didn't fail. It took a lot of shit before you dropped it head first directly on the concrete. Seems like it would be just fine on a nightstand.

      @@woo10gamingtv11 here's the thing dude, I wouldn't want to get shot with a 22 short. However, I'm also not a methed up psycho. I'm not aware of any law enforcement department or agency using this load, or anything similar. Even Air Marshall's, from what I've researched, since 2020 use Sig V-Crown standard HPs. As far as knowing shit about ballistics, I try to never portray myself as an expert. I'm just a guy that's read some studies and papers. Ultimately, if you disagree, that's on you. You can choose to carry whatever you want, it doesn't affect me at all woo10gamingtv11

    There needs to be more publicized tests on flesh instead of gel for the lehigh bullets. Until then, the underwood ammo lehigh load main perk is energy, penetration, and barrier blindness. Actual wound cavity in flesh is questionable, but that was always something that wasnt much of a priorty to me in handgun calibers as it only matters several seconds/minutes after i want to hit the offenders off button the moment the trigger is pulled. You either hit something important enough to stop the fight, or you dont.
