Customer has thermostats 8-10ft in the ceiling, no wonder the area gets cold. Setpoints are at 50deg heat and 82 deg cooling 🤣

Walk-In Freezer Fans were turning on and off, found out coil was froze solid. Found main wire on L1 of heater contactor was off of its connection point. Also then found unit low on refrigerant. Did not get the leak on camera due to fixing it quick and needing 2 hands. Leaking schrader for the suction fitting in the evaporator was caused by ice in the fitting, I was able to remove the ice inside...

RTU Heating, Ice Machine, and Walk-In Cooler Maintenance

In this video, you will see a rooftop unit heating inspection and an ice machine Maintenance along with a inspection of the walk-in cooler While I was editing this video, I did see that the defrost clock for the walk-in cooler was missing a pin and I did have a couple back in my van so I did end up putting the four pins for the defrost on the defrost clock #hvacrtechnician #refrigeration #hv...
Rack Compressor Changeout X2 #refrigeration #hvacr

Replacing 2 Carlyle Compressors in one day as we’re pretty busy and this was the only time with a few extra guys available. Biggest problem was the 2 compressors could not be fully isolated because of the discharge valves not holding and bleeding pressure into the compressor and it was around 150psi worth. So the night before we replaced the valves and made sure no other valves were leaking. Di...

Glad you liked it
@@MidwestHVACRTech I just found your channel and subscribed. Liked your process of diagnosing and looking at the big picture. Please keep posting the refrigeration calls. Thx
@ Thats about 90% of my work so you should see plenty! Thank you
Great video!! I’m glad you showed the entire process of the service- not just the problem and solution. You could’ve been done after getting the fans running again but kept searching for more ways to improve the system and discovered the saturation temp being too high and not capable of a -2 set point. You’re teaching me a lot about refrigeration through this one video. I do have some questions. At one point you replaced two fuses after fixing the bad connection and left the unit over night. What was the system doing overnight? Was it only in defrost mode? Was it in defrost mode continually? What is an example of how you should not leave the system overnight? Also, you said you want a superheat around 5-7 degrees. At school I’ve been taught that it’s okay having a higher superheat value if the system is doing what it supposed to. Do you want a 5-7 degree superheat for every system as a general practice? Or did you want a 5-7 degree superheat so that system would reach set point at -2degrees? What do you use the sight glass for?
So it really does depend on the customer. I work for this customer a lot and know the managers well. I’m able to explain to them what needs to be done in a respectful way. The facility was closing soon so I told them I’d be back early in the morning to get it fixed. Leaving the thermostat at 90deg means that the refrigeration won’t engage unless that box gets above 90deg which is impossible for this application, when I got back in the morning it was at 30deg in the box still. So what I did was leave the defrost heaters on and let the defrost clock on the roof continue to run normally every 6hrs for around 40min. I usually try for a 4-7deg SH for a freezer, 7-10 SH for cooler. Super heat just depends on the application, for AC you’ll be way higher around 12-15 SH. The liquid sight-glass on any system is to see if you have a full column of liquid going to your expansion device, which for this application is a TXV. You always want a full column of liquid to have an efficient evaporator and get proper temperatures for cooling/freezing product. I will refer to you a book: Commerical Refrigeration for Air Conditioning Technicians (2nd Edition) by Dick Wirz
Thanks for all the answers and referral!!
Very interesting stuff
I appreciate you watching!
Keep posting love seeing content makes me want to post as well
@@alejandrozometa1951 there’s only so many refrigeration channels so doing my best at showing the trade and what goes into the career
Get that money
Like always, excellent job
I appreciate that
Propane? That's alotta rust.
@@jasonvannostrand3031 nope, it’s normal natural gas. The past contractor probably never cleaned these burners for years and this is why it’s so important to do proper cleaning during a maintenance
Besides sliding in, seating the heat exchanger and screwing it, what else happened during the replacement? Did you add any adhesive or sealant of some type?
Sorry, I can’t video absolutely everything. Heat exchangers came with new factory gaskets and we were able to get a tight seal with that and a bead of high temp silicon.
Your comment had me think more and I should try and video the most important parts, so I will take that into consideration for next time as that is an important step. Again, thank you for the comment
Happy to be learning from you! The rooftop maintenances/repairs are fun to watch because I’m unfamiliar with them and I’ve never replaced a heat exchanger before so figured I’d try to learn more. Next time you replace one I’d be intrigued to see the gasket and sealant parts.
@ absolutely, I will definitely remember to do it next time
Great vid man ! You can tell you take pride in your work by your truck organization 🙌
Thanks man, I try to keep it as organized as possible for efficiency!
The Carlyle 05g and the 06d, get rid of the paper gasket, go to carrier transicold truck and trailer and get metal gaskets
Good idea
Thanks
No problem, glad you liked it!
Awesome video, I’ve been in HVAC the past year and a half in school and working residentially. I watch a large variety of content for tool/van setups and general knowledge in the industry. Really impressed about your video for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s from a Midwest tech! I’m in Michigan and don’t find much Midwest content in HVAC. The carpet setup is really cool and I like how you tag all equipment too- I’ve already noticed how critical communication is in the trade for safety and for proper practices. Looks like I have another channel to subscribe to, and some more videos to watch tonight. Looking forward to the 2025 content to come! James
@@jameswitham7938 Thank you James, I really appreciate the nice comment from another Midwest Tech. I hope school is going well for you. If you have any questions you need answered, feel free to comment and I'll do my best to answer.

I love the video. My favorite part is just seeing how much material you have at all times. All of the little pieces of equipment. It’s like a little wholesale house in your van!

🤬🤬 Cheap Bastard customers can’t spend the money for a walk in trailer machine room now all we have is these crappy small units that the technician will be exposed to rain and snow while troubleshooting, not to mention the electrical section where the E-2 or Danfoss controller and all the contacters and input, output boards are located.
Probably better off to just replace the unit depending on age
@@scottvanslooten8374 Thanks for the suggestion, currently no reason other than just a coil. Everything else is in great working order. Unit is from 2016

What does it mean when the compressor is isolated?
@@MidwestPipefitter A “Isolated Compressor” is when that compressor is still technically attached to the system but all valves are closed which isolates the compressor. So here we shut the Oil inlet and equalization line, the Suction and Discharge line, and since the power is shut off the liquid injection solenoid is powered off so I trusted that the solenoid held/sealed properly. Which is why I keep my hoses on the compressor and see if any pressure rises. We isolate compressors so we can safely work on the internal components, inspections of gaskets/valve plates, and doing overall maintenance as well. Also if a compressor stops doing what it’s supposed to do then we want to shut it down and isolate it because if we have a broken compressor then you may have high discharge pressure leaking into the low suction pressure which will make bigger issues.
