These came out nice. And I like halation. The reason I schoot film. Is for it's wonky and unpredictable results. If you want control Schoot digital.

Appreciate that! Film definitely is completely different from digital. Which is what makes it great as well. Thanks for watching.

Bought one of these in the early 2000's, it's my sharpest lens, color is amazing, the bokeh is a joy. Great character, show in the images. Much better than the AI version, which had no ED glass. I use it both on my film (F2, F100) and digital (D700) cameras. Do you remember the aperture on the last images (my favorite ones)? Enough said! Thanks for the video! Enjoy yours!

Apologizes. I responded as I thought this was the full video that's on my channel. These Film vs Digital shorts will ALWAYS be unedited film photos from the lab and unedited digital sooc. The digitals for the robe session are all unedited sooc from the XT5 using the Portra 400 film simulation vs. actual Portra 400 film in my Nikon F5. No edits. Wrong vid. Hope that clears this up.

I was watching and looking at the water and scenery of this video. I was like. Toto. We're not in NY anymore. Pretty model. I Schoot film at different ISOs but have the lab develop it at box speed and never had problems. With fill flash no need to Schoot at a hirer ISO. I would have used flash at boxpseed. Love Pro image 100. I used an expired role on a Schoot on a cloudy day. I think some of my best work. It was around 2010 and I bought a 5 pack then it disappeared until the second time it was here which is now. Freestyle photo had a clearance sale on it last month.

Thanks for sharing your experience with these different film stocks. Based on the images you shared, I think melanated skin looks better on Cinestill 400D vs Fuji 400H and Portra 400. As a new film photographer, how melanated skin comes out on certain film stocks is important since I’ll be taking photos of my gf, friends and family.

Hey Shelby. Thanks for watching. I also go a little bit more in-depth on this other video on my channel as well if you need more examples. I think 400D is a great option for black skin since 400h is discontinued. Look into Ektar 100 as well! Happy shooting! th-cam.com/video/EjvHB5oq_UE/w-d-xo.html

03:58 There’s definitely a difference between the two lenses. I think the Canon is slightly better, but isn’t it better enough to justify the extra cost compared to the Sigma? I don’t think so!

I used the F5 along with HP-5 to photograph a couple of youth baseball games every year. I would have used it for all the games instead of digital , but parents want pictures of their kids quick, fast and in a hurry. Planning to use the F5 to photograph auto racing this summer.

Decrease the shadow from +3 so you don't have to brighten the shadow in post. It provides Bit too crushed black for a portrait work

It seems the film doesn't offer a very wide dynamic range, almost similar to what you can get from an Ektachrome 100 or other positive films. Maybe expose to avoid overexposure on the skin and you should get some shadows back along the way. Also I've seen some people getting very decent results with cross processing, some even wondering if it wasn't initially supposed to be used that way..

    • @DCaldwellPhotography

The sigma bokeh is more "vibrant". We can clearly see it on the pic on the top of the building. Anyway I would prefer sample without edit.

Great video! What do you think the result would be if you shot this at 3200 and push it one stop to 6400? Similar to the 3rd test or would it be less grain cause your pushing it two stops less?

Shooting slide film it's not like shooting negatives, your chances are narrower since slide film is unforgivable, and just as a tip, always step down the exposure a tiny little bit, the positive slide film is exactly the opposite of negative, the punch comes from the deeper shadows instead highlights.

  • @johnsonofjohn1678

Years ago I was shooting Tmax 3200 at ISO 1000 and developing the film myself using Tmax developer. Unfortunately I don't remember the development time. But my photos turn out great. The secret to avoiding excessive grain is to not over-agitate the film during development. Very slowly and gently invert the development tank twice every minute or so.
