Well let me say this... This is one of greatest show I have watched

I’ve been looking for an excuse to finally finish monster, looks like I’ve found one! forgot how intense this show feels, looking forward to watching along with you. Bummer the sub doesn’t work cause I think the sub is better but this dub is decent tbf. Side note I think you’re reaaaaaally pretty 🫡 (not sure that emoji makes sense in this context but I’m leaving there lol)

I liked it better in English Japanese you can’t understand anything unless you speak Japanese

The title of Niccolo Machiavelli's infamous book "The Prince" doesn't refer to an heir or son of a King, but rather the ruler of a nation.

I never liked the English dub. I feel like something essential was lost in there, and if I rewatch this series it is going to be the original voices with English subs.

Hey, happy you're watching this one ! Hope you're well. I vote for sub on this one, not that the dub is bad. The perforamanc of the VA of a major character is a lot more nuanced in the original, that's why i'm pro sub.

Best christmas episode I've seen anime or not

Sakuma's salty with Kazama bc he is giving so much time and attention to Smile who's not on their team, and a player Sakuma doesn't really respect at that point. Sakuma used to idolize Peco but not anymore. Sakuma's a really hard worker, and no one works harder than his new idol (Kazama) who happens to be extremely talented as well. Glad you're seeing how the drive to win is a bad thing for Smile when he's in robot mode, but is uplifting with Peco. Even if Peco is a bit of a little S***T, he has an infectious joy his opponents get swept up in.

Love this show! Yeah, I felt like going in and playing around with his paddle was super rude, but Peco gonna Peco, and he's hard to get mad at 😆

Was legit thinking you would not dig this. What a pleasant surprise! Now that you're officially a Meshuggah fan 🤣 i must suggest their magnum opus track - Dancers to a Discordant System. Once you pay attention to the lyrics on that track and tie them together with the music you'll gain a new level of appreciation for this band.

What is really cool is that you don't present yourself like a person that is into metal, yet you are spot on with how you appreciate what it can deliver. The fact that you got a real kick out of the rhythms and aggression combined with the musicianship shows that you are considerate and like to be fascinated. Hope you share a few more metal reaction vids... plenty of styles to explore.

The Meshuggah rabbit hole... "your favorite metal band's favorite band".. one of the tightest live bands of all time, not to mention their light show that syncronizes perfectly with every note. My personal favorite "Straws Pulled at Random" from their Bloodstock 2023 performance. And actually this isn't the full version of Bleed!!! This is the shortened music video version, check out the full song. Funny how you said you wanted the song to keep going... it does :)

Late to the party, but I agree that the AOT dub is horrible to me as well. You're not alone. I only watch subbed anime so it could be bias, but I also watched Black Lagoon in sub first (twice even) and then watched it in dub, and I like them both equally. Imo the Black Lagoon dub is better for comedy/cussing, while the sub is better for the emotion/more accurate line delivery (which helps me understand the characters on a deeper level). Glad you decided to react to both.

Kong and Smile's coach

Good stuff. Some context: * Something that gets culturally lost in translation for the Kazama flashback: there's a scene of child-Kazama getting really excited about Udon while the other kids demand fancier food. What's implied is that his family/mother is poor and couldn't afford to give him what kids his age want, and he was so aware/considerate of that that he put the burden on his own shoulders and pretended like he wanted the more affordable item on the menu instead, for their sake. An early sign of him living his life for other people and out of duty/responsibility instead of for himself. * My interpretation of where everyone ends up is that it's commentary on what attitudes lead to and sustain greatness in competitive fields. Kong and Peco are the ones who have always had true passion for the sport/winning, and over the course of the show, learned the other side of it that's needed too-- They were never going to stop. Meanwhile, guys like Smile and Kazama have an attitude/nature that was never going to get them far competitively, without making them miserable. Ultimately, Smile's journey was not about becoming convinced that he should care as much about winning as everyone else, which is an easy bad assumption early on-- He just ends up having a healthier/happier/less frustrated and judgmental version of the same attitude he always had about the sport. Koizumi wanted him to see the view from the top (due to his own regrets), but honestly, what he hoped would happen wasn't really what was right for him, and Obaba seemed to know it all along. Kong's character definitely had my heart the most (and Sakuma kind of an understated/unexpected MVP), but it's really a show with five shared main characters. It starts out seeming like it's mostly about Smile, but by the end, not really. It's about every different dimension that the five characters represented pretty equally.

I have just watched Stanley Kubrick's Strangelove movie and noticed that the music at the end of this episode in Black lagoon is originally from this movie. It's a very sarcastic and deep movie about nuclear competition between ussr and usa in the cold war era. If you didn't watch it, I definitely recommend you this great movie, too. Its "a bit" old but gold.
