For bonsai care the extending of the winter buds is used as a signal that the tree's sap is mostly in the branches and less in the roots which makes it less stressful to do a root pruning. Certain species may vary of course but maples like you have there it applies to them.

Hi, I plant a "Terminalia arjuna" tree near my house. Like 8' feet away the foundation. I hope its too close. I love the tree its still a plant, I want to keep it smaller like. Is that too close ?. (I know its close) How much feet should I move away from my foundation. I want that tree near my house and shade so bad. Any tips from tree lovers?

Picking up that by the trunk and letting all that weight pull down, will hurt it. Work it out of the pot, then move it by moving the root ball.

Great video, this is the exact problem that our building and many other have in Chicago. You guys could make a fortune here. One question, when the base of the tree overlaps the tree grate, can this contribute to killing the tree? Once you cut out the grate from the base of the tree, then how do you get the remaining metal away from the base of the tree?

Roots are like people, when you work in landscaping, you can’t run them over with a mower just bc they get in your way.

1 season lol. Depends where you live, I'm on the edge of town in Vegas and wind gusts coming across the desert are very very destructive. Up to 80mph gusts sometimes with the occasional 50mph sustained for the whole day. Wood stakes snap right off so I use metal fence posts with the plate at the bottom. Yes I give them room to sway but I wouldn't dare unstake them after a year, especially the Chinese pistache with slim trunks when they are young.

Believe it or not, the owner of a company i managed tried to fight me over this... his fight was that they need to be burried deeper like 4 inch deeper... below grade up the trunk... says the damn roots down need oxygen.

You heard it here folks. Deep but shallow.

Why then do they mulch things all the way up the trunk. They bury everything in mulch.
